That's a great idea. I want to do my own makeup but don't know where to begin. I don't want it to just look like my everyday makeup but I also want to still look like myself and I just don't feel comfortable trusting a complete stranger to get it right.

I am doing my own make up. I might us a little bit of mac and my Mary Kay products. I am a little worried that I will have to do a lot of test runs, but that okay. haha! I am to scared of paying for someone to do mine and put way to much with colours that I dont like either.

I would highly recommend going for a makeover at one of your favorite make up counters at a department store or at sephora. You can ask them to explain the techniques that they are using to give you the exact look. Every time I go and buy make up I learn a new tip. You can even bring magazine print outs of looks that you're going for.

I got my make done at sephora for my engagement party and it came out fabulous. They charge you $70 ($50 if you don't want air brushing) but you get a makeover and a gift card for $70 so you can buy the products that they use on you that day. I thinking about purchasing the air brushing machine that they used on me, its $200 but it makes your skin and complexion look flawless. This is defiantly a must have item if youâ€re doing your make up on your own on your wedding day. I'm still deciding if I'm going to do my make up myself or have it done in Jamaica.

Good luck ladies, hope this info helps. cheers.gif

so ReeRee, how did the make up turn out.  I went to Sephora and they tried to sell me the Temptu but I couldn't justify spending the $$ for it, plus I cant think that i could use an airbrush on myself and it turn out right!!!  I finally gave up after 3 different eye trials and said fine, I just didn't buy the eye products or the temptu!!  I will go back to MAC for an eye makeover!

So I did spent fortune on makeup products... Starting from buying Temptu Airbrushing Device from Sephora.... I kind of rationalized that that was also a birthday gift to myself....:)  I also went to MAC and bought a couple brushes, eye shadows, etc.   My wedding is about a week away and I still have to do some practice run before I leave on Wednesday!!

I agree with DeAngelis.

I will be doing my own as well, but I walked into a Sephora a few weeks ago and asked for their best make-up consultant to ensure I know exactly what to do. She and I spoke and I told her what was going on and what I needed, and I'll be buying the necessary gift card and she'll be teaching me how to apply the make-up properly. Everyone swears that I already apply my make-up very well, but like many of you-- I don't want to look like the "Misti" that I look like every single day. I want to look and feel special, but I do not want to have an excess of make-up on my face... If that makes any sense.

I plan on doing my own. I got my make-up done by a "pro" at Sephora and it was awful. I mean really, really bad. I can't trust anyone else to do it. I've spent a lot on all new make-up but I'm not counting it in the wedding budget because I figure I'll use it for other things. I needed new make-up anyways. I've had the same stuff for years.

Hi ladies,

I just got back from my wedding and I did do my own makeup using Temptu airbrushing.   It turned out great! I used highlighter color Bronze to use as a bronzer because few days before my wedding I got a good tan on the beach, so the foundation color was a little too light, but the bronzer really did the trick.  I will upload some close-up pictures when I get home tonight, but here are the list of what I used:

Face:

Temptu airbrushing system - foundation (natural), blush (sheer berry 404), highlighter (Copper) for undereye, highlighter (Bronze) as a bronzer.

MAC pressed power for a matt finish (the make up artist at Sephora actually told me to use loose powder such as makeup foever white loose powder, but I didn't want the finish to be too white and too mat, so I used MAC pressed power.

Eye:

Urban Decay primer potion

MAC eyeshadows

Loreal HIP black eyeliner in a jar (This is a great buy! Waterproof all the way!!)

smashbox eyebrow powder

Clinique undereye concealer

Lash: I got eyelash extension called Eva Lash (combination of 10mm and 12 mm) at a local salon here in DC.  It was really uncomfortable first but I got used to it after a couple days and it looked great in the picture.  I paid $59 for it, I think it's well worth it if you don't have thick eye lashes.  Much more natural looking than fake lash you put on yourself.

Lip:

Tokidoki Lip Stain

Smashbox lip gloss

Will add some pictures soon!

I just got married last month in Dominican Republic and I did my own makeup. I got a free professional makeup appointment at Shoppers Drugmart because I spent over $75 on their makeup products (mostly Dior and Lancome). The makeup looked great and stayed on the whole time. Plus, you get to keep the makeup which you can keep using for a long time!

I couldnt take the risk of having my makeup done at the resort spa; Ive read too many scary stories about the products and techniques they use!

Here is a pic of my face...hopefully you can get an idea of what my makeup looked like on my wedding day. I like the more heavier makeup look so it depends on the person...other like the more natural look!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
