I would send save the dates, you can even send them up to a year ahead of time, just to let your guests plan and save money

Of course you can send Save the Dates! They are really fun and less formal than the actual invites, and it allows for guests to save up and get excited for your wedding!

I sent Save the Date cards that looked like boarding passes. I think it a good way for your guests to get excited about traveling to your wedding. It also gives them a way to plan for the expenses as well. I sent mine out almost a year ahead of time.

I'm working on mine as we speak. It will be a card with a magnet attached. We get our pictures taken on Saturday at the beach! Hopefully the weather will be nice...
Oh and I plan to send them a year before our wedding.
Question (don't mean to hijack here but), how early do people normally send out the actual invite for a DW?

we sent STD's out in May for our April wedding. We will be sending out our invitations in September asking for RSVP by November...sounds kinda early but we have a procrastination-based family and need to get them moving!!!!!!! Plus, we want to get this all done BEFORE the holidays!
