Has anyone registered for gifts? The reason we were not going to do it is because we don't want our guest to get us a gift if they are paying to join us at our destination wedding. But there are quite a few that can't make it and still want to give us a gift.

what do you think? what did you do?

We registered because I had a bridal shower and an AHR. Although I put on our wed-site that their presence was gift enough. And my mom told everyone that wanted to give gifts to give us gift cards since we were traveling for every event. I think it's nice for people to have an idea of what to get you if they want to, but definitely not necessary. Do what feels right to you and FI :)

we registered , this way, if you get gifts, your guests have an idea of what to give you. If you don't want gifts, don't advertise where you are registered. maybe you could only tell people who ask. : ) Just a thought.
If you don't register, you may get things that don't need and can't return. That we be a waste for the people who purchased them.

What I plan to do is register online for a honeymoon fund. My fiance and I are both own our own houses and will already have 2 of everything when we combine our houses. The last thing we need is more stuff!! In fact my fiance's little brother will get a lot of our duplicates and he made a comment that it was like his wedding. There are several honeymoon registry websites out there (I have even come across a thread on this forum - which means there are likely several!). Some couples just collect all of the gifts in a single fund while others "register" for dinners or excursions while on vacation so guests can still buy a particular item. I hope this helps!

We faced this dilemma too, and especially since this was a second marriage for both us we already had two of everything. But, there were still plenty of people who couldn't join us at our DW and we didn't want or plan an AHR, so we bowed to the pressure and registered. Personally, if I'm invited to a wedding shower, I prefer it when the couple has registered because then you know you are giving them something they truly need (or simply just want).

We also plan to register. The way I looked at it was, if they can't afford it then they wont buy anything cause they are already paying to attend the wedding, but if they can, then they'll get something off the registry.

We are registering. I too said on my wedsite that "your presence at our wedding is more than gift enough" but for those who aren't coming, the option is there for them to still give a gift.

                  We've registered because I'm having a shower.

We are doing a registry because of our AHR, the registry information will only be supplied with the AHR invites, we don't want anyone traveling to Mexico spending more money on us.

We reluctantly did a registry - if we didn't, I know that FI's family would have given us gifts that would most likely have not been anything we could/would use - even after telling them not to give us anything. I haven't 'advertised' the registry - when people ask, I tell them... along with "You really don't need to get us anything. Really."
