June 2011 Brides!

Recommended Posts

Hey girls! I haven't been on the forum much since the format changed... I kind of got frustrated and gave up for awhile but I'm back. I just wanted to let y'all know that I'm heading back to Cabo for a short trip on Oct 10th-13th. Hopefully this trip is just what I need to get back in the swing of things, and finalize some of the pending items. My coordinator has scheduled meetings with the guitar and violin players (for ceremony), the mariachi (for cocktail hour), DJ (for reception), the florist & rental co (for decor), baker (cake testing), hair & makeup trial, and our food tasting at Cabo del Sol. We will be deciding on our rehearsal dinner location and if that's not enough to do in three days we will also have our engagement photos taken with Alec and T. Its going to be a busy and exciting trip!

If anyone needs any info or would like for us to do anything while we are there, let me know!

Hello Fellow June 2011 Brides!

I'm fairly new to the site and just found this thread.  I'm getting married June 11, 2011 at Cabo Azul Resort in San Jose del Cabo.  I'm so excited.  Our Planner from the resort is great and so far everything is falling into place.  I've been planning since August and so far I have booked:

Cabo Azul Resort:

Chapel (on site):

Menu

DJ Mijares (playing Acoustic Guitar during cocktail hour)

Wedding Website

Officiant

Still need to do:

Engagement photos (being done this weekend)

Send Save the dates (waiting for engagement photo)

Design Invitations

Flowers

Cake/Baker

Reception Decor

Welcome Party (sent messages to Damiana and Mi Casa today)

I'm so excited, but overwhelmed and nervous at the same time.  It's hard not being there, but we visit our resort and meet with vendors in January.  Also my FI are paying for this on our own.... it's getting pricey and that's nerve wracking!

If anyone has any great suggestions on the things I still have to do, I'd love to hear them!!!  Please!

So excited to have someone to talk to, I think my FI and MOH are getting sick of it. LOL.

  • 3 months later...

Hi ladies...we've all been quiet for a while now and we're down to the 5 month mark! How's everyone's planning going? The recent increases in flights are keeping me up at night but other than that things are coming along nicely. Hope to send out the actual invites next month! (Save the dates went out last June).

Time has been flying by and I am starting to feel the stress of all the things that need to be done.  I m trying to finish up my invitations so that I can have them in the mail by the last day this month but that's really pushing it!  We have a deadline with our group block to be able to release rooms without penalty so I would like our guests to get the invites asap.

We have had about 25-30 guests already book flights but not nearly that many have booked rooms.  There was a sale during xmas time on a mexican airline called Volaris.  Since most of our guests are in san diego, they were able to save some $.  Roundtrip tickets were $147!!  So cheap!  So that's why so many have booked flights.

I am working with my florist on the centerpieces.  I am still a bit undecided.  I really wanted callas and peonies but they are both very expensive.  I am taking real touch bouquets down with me for myself, the BM's and all the bout's as well.  Working with wed-ideas on these.

All of my BM dresses/shoes have been purchased and MY dress is in my possession :) still need alterations though.

How is everyone elses planning going?

Sounds like we are at about the same point in planning. We have the opposite issue, however, when it comes to guests booking. We have over 30 guests with rooms booked and now everyone is panicking about flights! We only have about 8 with flights booked! You got a good deal with Volaris! They fly out of TJ, right...how is that airport?

We're trying to get invites out at the beginning of next month. I had Ginger at Beyond Design design them and send me the digital files so my future sister in law and I can assemble them. Time consuming, but it will save me some money! We also just finished making all the menus, fabric luggage tags, and "gringo recovery kits".

I'm thinking everything is booked...officiant, florist, DJ, guitarist, blood work and judge, welcome dinner, hair and make-up. We finally decided on the centerpieces to use the sand filled hurricanes with candles - 3 on each table. I know exactly what you mean about flowers being sooo pricey!

OOT bags are pretty much done if I can ever stop buying stuff for them! I got a great deal on pashminas for the ladies - and those are supposed to be in Friday, so I'm excited to get them. Let me know if anyone needs the link to where I purchased them....they were great to work with!

Bridesmaids dresses and shoes are done, FI has his suit, and I have my dress and shoes (still need alterations). I also bought a beautiful hair comb on etsy, but need to finish picking out jewelry. We also purchased some Tommy Bahama shirts for my dad and step-dad (both are walking me down the aisle).

That's all I can think of at the moment - how's it coming along for the rest of us?!?

I'm borderline embarrassed about all the stuff I bought for OOT bags! I seriously can't stop!!! So far I have:

  • Eddie Bauer Beach bags (purchased on clearance)
  • "Gringo Recovery Kits"...each contains the Johnson & Johnson first aid kit (in which I also added dramamine, immodium, tylenol, advil, and pepto packets), bath and body works hand sanitizer, burts bees spf lip balm, shout wipes, aloe gel, and gatorade packets. I also need to get Tide packets to add because Estancia has washers/dryers in all the villas.
  • Small yankee candle jar candle in beach scents and personalized matchboxes (we bought blank matchboxes and stamped them)
  • From Vistaprint, I ordered generic Cabo T-shirts and hats - one design for the guys and one for the girls, so everyone will get a T-shirt and ball cap. I also ordered personalized pens with our names and personalized note pads with the guests names...oh, and Cabo postcards that say "wish you were here".
  • Personalized stadium cups from ebay (seller: cupman19) that turned out super cute
  • Personalized koozies from ebay/etsy seller barryspromos (still need to order these)

And...Fiance informed me he also wants a mini 6 pack cooler for everyone so they can take beers/drinks down to the pool rather than running back and forth to the room - so I'm on the hunt for decently priced coolers with a minimum order of 25.

The pashminas will also go into the bags - and I got them here: http://www.pioneergroup27.com/

I just emailed the email address on the site - Daniel will likely reply in a few days and he is super nice! I got 2 dozen pashminas for $54 plus $11 shipping, so about $2.70 each. Other girls have ordered from there and were thrilled with the quality. I should get mine tomorrow!

I'll post some pics once I put everything together!

For the centerpieces we are just using the hurricanes that Cabo del Sol provides. They are large glass hurricanes with sand in the bottom and pillar candles. I am considering getting freeze dried rose petals to scatter around them and for scattering down the aisle. Our flowers are over $800 just for my bouquet, 3 bridesmaids bouquets, and the chuppa...so I just couldn't bear to spend anymore on centerpieces. I would rather spend it on the guests themselves. I would ask the coordinator at Arco if she has hurricanes or any centerpieces that were left behind by other brides...or I've seen some surprisingly beautiful things done with carnations on this site - both entire centerpieces and just for filler, so maybe check with your florist to see if that would help keep costs down.

How's everything going for you Rebecca? Did you decided between staying at arco or estancia?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
