The Engagement that didn't happen as planned.

Recommended Posts

Our song is At Last by Etta James, so when the movie Cadillac Records came out we had to see it. Needless to say we loved the movie and I wanted to see Etta in concert, the only problem was all of her concerts were in California. Unbeknown to me, Jimmy purchasd tickets to her concert in LA and planned a weekend getaway (this all took place in November of 2008 ) . During the next couple of months Jimmy purchased the engagement ring and planned on proposing at the concert during At Last, either on stage or with a spot light on us. It is now March 18 and its two days before we are to leave for California and Jimmy checks to see where our seats are and in bold red letters he reads that Etta James has cancelled due to health complications!!!! Months of planning have now fallen apart, but nevertheless he plans on proposing in a romantic way in California.

For those of you who know Jimmy, know that he always goes above and beyond with certain things and of course he out did himself when it came to the engagement ring. Jimmy ordered my ring from Israel and it was supposed to arrive via fedex on Thursday March 19 (the day before we leave, however, his plans were again ruined when the Fedex plane broke down and the ring could not be delivered until Friday March 20 (the day we left). While at the airport Jimmy gets a phone call from Fedex to let him know that the ring has arrived and he can come pick it up, however, we were already at the airport. He frantically calls his sister Erica, to pick up the ring. At this point, he was having second thoughts because he didn't know if he should take the events that had occurred as signs to not propose..Thank GOD for Erica, she would not let that happen!!! lol From this point on Erica took over with the help of Roseanne and Melonie.

When we arrived back home after a wonderful weekend, I went upstairs with Jimmy following close behind and I could see light coming from under the door and I heard voice, so I asked him "Did you leave the TV on?" When I opened the bedroom door there were rose petals and candles scattered all over the floor with At Last playing in the background. My jaw dropped and I was amazed at how beautiful the room looked. There were 2 dozen roses (a dozen white and a dozen red) in a beautiful vase on top of my amoire with candles underneath, there were ballons hung off of the head board and rose petals arranged in the shape of a heart in the middle of our bed with the engagement ring in the middle. Once I stopped gazing at the the rest of the room and realized that there was a ring I broke down and just started crying. Jimmy grabed the ring, got down on one knee and put this beautful ring on my finger.

Then Erica, Roseanne and Melonie come walking out of my bathroom (lol) crying with a bottle of champagne!! Then I realized that Jimmy never asked he just put the ring on my finger...so he took the ring off and he spoke the words "WILL YOU MARRY ME" and we all know I said YES. What makes this proposal even better is that Melonie set up her video camera and captured the entire thing, so I will have it for years to come and be able to show our children!

P.S. Jimmy called my father from the airport and asked his permission for my hand in marriage and he gave him his blessing.

The beginning of FOREVER!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
