I'm having a bit of a dilemma. We are having 21 guests and I am thinking of setting the tables in a square with 6 people on each side so everyone sits pretty much at the same table. First of all, is this stupid? should I go for separate tables?
and now the question, should I even bother with a separate table for placecards? and if so, how do I let the guests know which side of the square they sit at?
    thank you!

I don't think it's a stupid idea at all. I like the idea of a square table...it's unique! If you want to do assigned seating at the square table then you can get someone to set the place cards at your guests' seats.

I think it's a great idea too! My FI's brother got married in Vegas and it was awkward having only 2 tables which became self-separated by family and the bride and groom sat with her family.

I think the setup sounds fine. I had 24 people at my wedding and I didn't do seating charts, but just let everyone find a spot. It worked out great. So I don't think they are a necessity for such a small group. But it wouldn't hurt either.

I am thinking of doing the family-style reception myself where everyone sits at one big table. Twenty-one people is not overly huge, so you may not need place cards, but if you wanted, say, your bridal party close to where you are sitting, then you may want a few just to specify the spots for MOH, MOG, MOB, etc.

I think it's a good idea. I'm only having 11 people and asked for a round table but they said it would have to be a long table instead.

                I think it's fine :)
We're having 25 people and the hotel will set up the tables on a squared "C" that will be facing the ocean, that way we are all together and will be more intimate.

I think it is a great idea and you only need the placecards if you want them!

Great idea! It would be way more intimate that way. I agree with just having the placecards - no need for the rest!

we're having everyone sit at the same table with us at the head of the table...we are having place cards set so everyone knows where to sit and they're not scrambling around trying to figure out who should sit where...i love the idea of everyone being together (we have 30 guests)...it's so much more intimate that way!
