Trip Advisor ROR....thoughts?

Recommended Posts

I agree. Don't stress because I am sure that it will be great. I usually just look at the most recent reviews and then I see if there are complaints, what kind they are. If it sounds like they are being unreasonable with their pickiness, I ignore it. I think you should be good to go since 90% are positive.

90% is fantastic, that's hard to come by on Trip Advisor! I use the site frequently but you have to pick what you will take to hart and what you'll ignore. Are there trends in the reviews, or is everyone mentioning the same thing? That makes a big difference. Also remember that some people are never going to agree on certain things - a resort will always be too quiet or too loud for some people, the pool is always too cold or too hot, etc. Hang in there, it will be fine!!!

I use Trip Advisor also and used the site to narrow down our Wedding Resort. I was impressed with RIU based on that website because much of the feedback/ reviews were very good. And the pictures were beautiful. But most of the bad reviews that I read more often than not involved something of a personal nature that didn't typically happen to other guests just one of those quirky mishaps. Others allowed small things like being a picky eater, rusty nails or a paint/drywall/ minor maintenance issues to ruin their whole entire stay. I don't think 90% is at all bad even after reading the few bad reviews I'm still getting married at the RIU, I believe its one of the Best Overall Values on the whole island.

To be completely honest, I did stay at a hotel during our site visit that was rated 90% positive on Trip Advisor and my FI and I hated it!!!

HOWEVER, in retrospect, I should have paid more attention to the descriptions of the place! The reviewers clearly stated the hotel was no frills. Had I noticed these comments and also paid attention to the reviewer profiles, I would have realized sooner that it would not be a good fit.

Riu is clearly a well established chain though and if your hotel had any major problems, they would be flagged by the reviewers.

My lesson learned was to read "in between the lines" better and decipher comments both positive AND negative - you can learn a lot from so-called good reviews too!

I can understand. I've been reading Tripadvisor alot lately and its got me really worried. The biggest complaints are a musty smell, hard pillows, and food. I've tried to comfort my worries by looking at the stats and only 10% of people feel the resort is poor or terrible. So hopefully eveything turns out great.

I'm on trip advisor all the time just looking at pictures of our resort. That is also how I decided to pick the resort me and my FI booked for our wedding and the resort had a 89% rating. You have to realize that most people usually go on that site to complain, so there could be so many more that loved the resort but didn't think about writing about it. I also agree with another post. There was a hotel I booked that had a 90% rating and it was the worst hotel yet that me and FI stayed in. So what they hate you might like and vise versa.

Plus I think I over heard a phrase one time. "Opinions are like a** holes, everyone's got one." jiggy.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
