Did anyone out there add $$ to their trip price?

Recommended Posts

It sounds like one of those TA registries gone wrong. You know the thing where you set up an account with the TA for people who want to give you a gift, they can just give them any amount and they give it to you after. But this seems totally off, it is like forcing your guests to give you a gift which is completely wrong. If they want to give you a gift of their own free will that is great and really appreciated but it is wrong to force someone to give you a gift.

Yeah, we've stated that we don't want any gifts as we have everything that we need. We also received the free trip deal, with every 16th free - but I've passed that on to a couple of our guests who would have a difficult time being there otherwise - and we definitely want them there. As it stands, especially the economy the way it is, I will be paying for 4 or 5 people to come, plus the two on the free trips - but it's more important to me that these people are there.. unfortunately when most of your friends are in college, that's the way it is!

yeah just wanted to say there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a free trip gained from multiple bookings for yourselves. you are bringing in the business, and there are usually incentives for doing so. no one should feel badly about benefiting in this way.

however, forcing each guest to pay a little extra (that will go toward a free trip), especially without their knowledge, is just shady and tacky.

I did round up the price, but not by $50 or $100, we're talking like $10 or so. I think one package price was $1467.82 so I said $1475. With the group rate it was cheaper than if people had booked independently so I wasn't scamming them for money.

I had a small cushion of about $300 that went to pay for additional costs so my guests wouldn't have to pay more than the original amount and the published price on my website. Anything that was left over went back into the wedding so all guests could enjoy.

I'm OK with that (obviously since I did it, LOL) but I wouldn't raise prices to pay for any specific people.

note to all TAs, vendors, etc.: if you don't want anyone to post anything negative (or that might be viewed as negative) about you in a public forum, then don't give us ammunition! we are just as likely to post glowing recommendations and positive experiences as we are the negative stuff. it's your actions that determine which will end up on the forum!
Nice!!! I agree...

I'm also very curious about the TA...I'm from Red Deer as well and talked to a few questionable ones before I found the perfect one for our group...and it's been a great experience so far...

HA HA HA that is classic. I wonder what kind of balls you have to have to do that...and not think twice about it. LOL

I agree with all that has been said. I think it's wrong and since the TA reads this forum I hope this encourages her to stop doing that. And why the best man & MOH? does that mean the other bridesmaids are paying an extra $50 each so the MOH travels for free? Not fair!

As far as taking the free flights or free room accumulated from booking so many people, I think that is completely fine. I've also heard of prices dropping $10-$20 and the TA credited the couple with that money instead of each guests. Our prices dropped about $10, but our TA credited that to each guest. If it went to us we would have turned around & given it back to the guests be adding something for them to the trip. We probably would have covered lunch at the group excursion with that extra money. I would feel like it needs to be something that goes directly to the guest, not extra flowers or something like that.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
