Day Passes for guests... to pay or not to pay

Recommended Posts

What is the etiquette for guests not staying at your designated resort?

I have 3 guests that have opted to stay with friends in Jamaica. Since the resort is AI, I would have to purchase day passes for them. However, they also want to bring the couple they are staying with (since that will be there ride to and from the resort).

Is it improper for me to not pay for their guests? them?smile41.gif

Passes are between $50 & $75 pp

(Guests are paying their travel fees)

I'm personally not paying for their day passes if they choose another resort...I'm just paying the extra for them to come to the reception - but it is less than a day pass, and they can enter 30 minutes before the ceremony.

I personally think if they decide to stay somewhere else and want to come hang out at the resort, they should pay themselves...but maybe I'm just a bitch?

No I completely agree with Jess. We have some people that decided to stay at another resort as well. I'm not paying for any day passes - that was their decision to stay somewhere else, not mine!

Assuming that they knew up front that by not staying at the resort, they would need to pay for a pass to attend the wedding, I personally don't think it's necessary to offer to pay for your 3 off-resort guests. Definitely not for the people they are staying with.

My reasoning is that if someone accepts an invitation to a DW, they also accept paying for the costs associated with attending. If they chose not to stay at the wedding resort, and knew that there would be a fee to get on the resort to attend, then accepting the invite also means they accepted that there would be a fee. Hopefully they understood this upfront. Even if they didn't, politely letting them know that because they are not staying on the resort, they would have to purchase a pass for themselves and their guests wouldn't be rude, IMHO.

I agree, I wouldn't pay, if they were staying at the resort then they would have been paying for that. If that was the case everybody could have stayed somewhere different and just had you pay for day passes, it's not fair to you or the other guest in my opinion and they should understand that.

We are actually paying for guest passes...but only because its for family and they are traveling from Europe and Israel so its WAY more expensive for them to come to Mexico and stay at our AI.... but otherwise I dont think we would have paid for passes

We have 5 people who aren't staying at our resort either but we're paying for theirs. Out resort is more expensive than some people can afford and I know its a bit of a struggle for them to come in ther first place. Its my way of saying thank you for coming I guess.

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
