I think they processed our credit card information within that week.
This is how it worked for us too. I think we reserved our date in February of '09 and the charge auth didn't go through until May, I think. It was definitely after they could verify our reservation.

Allyson & rus, Oceana is going to be a great place for your receptions!

Thanks for clearing up the confusion Allyson. Like I said, the fee I paid for Oceana is JUST the rental fee. Your actual wedding and reception costs would be determined by your package or wedding coordinator.

I am so excited to see how your wedding goes Allyson! Like you said, it is a bit more private, you can avoid the expense of a tent/dance floor. I have only seen a handful of photos from weddings at Oceana but it looks beautiful but I have always loved the idea of hardwood floors and then of course the gorgeous ocean view. Then again I suppose every wedding I have seen at Dreams is beautiful! I suppose it is nice that there is more variety now....

Karen...your review was amazing! Considering I have the same wedding weekend as you but next year, I found it very helpful. I loved the bonfire idea....it looked so fun and those marshmallows are huuge...haha. Teresa has been amazing as well...my guests are starting to book this week since my room block deadline is approaching, and it is nerve wrecking :-/ I am glad to see your wedding and realize that it will all be worth it....I am glad you had the wedding of a lifetime :-)

I just wanted to tell you girls how excited I am! We finally found a date! April 9, 2011. Which is funny, because that was the 2nd date I asked about and she said it was not available, and now it is!

Im glad everyone was just asking about the reserving and confirming. We obviously don't have the trip booked since we just got the date - how long will she hold the date for us?

Rus - the other date we were looking at was May 28. We asked about renting Oceana and she gave us the price, but never said it was booked! Glad we didn't choose that date, cause I would have had a fit! The only reason we were considering renting space was because she was telling us Las Palmas was booked every Sat in April and MAy. Then all of a sudden it is not on April 9 and May 21 and 28.

Yay for getting a date gowiththeflow! I have a feeling that a lot of people hold dates and then back out.

Oceana is a great restaurant and perfect for a large reception and rain plan. I did the girls brunch on the wedding day there and the food was soooo yummy. My mom was trying to get a hold of me so she called the hostess and they actually brought the phone over to our table. All of my girlfriends were rolling on the floor over how funny it was to get a call at the restaurant. Typing this it obviously wasn't that funny, but I kinda felt like a big deal on my big day ;-P

Thanks for the input guys. We actually booked flights and hotels at the end of May and the reservation code was sent in June so it's been over a month and they still haven't taken the deposit. I sent one more email to Samantha asking her to please put the charge through. If I don't get a response and a charge on my credit card within a week, I'm going to call Rebecca directly and stop dealing with Samantha. This is silly, I'm trying to give them money but they won't take it...

So we were thinking the same thing... how it was so silly because we are trying to give them money and they wont process it! In the end...it was our fault! (I was super embarrassed) I kept giving the confirmation number from our package deal (that our TA uses) and not the confirmation number for the actual resort. So long story short they could not find us in the system....you might want to double check that you are giving the confirmation number issued by the resort.

Here is the response I got from Samantha. (She replied within 24 hour so I gotta give her that!)

Dear Mary, the reservations code you have is for an agency this number is is not yet on my system, a couple of months before the date the agency send the recaps with all the informations, they have secure the dates with us but we do not have “names yetâ€, explain in a way

As I explain you before, you have your locations secure, we will apply the charge a couple of months before the wedding …

best

Samantha Navarrete Storey

Now that say that in the context of her email, I'm wondering if that's what I'm doing... how would I get the confirmation number for the resort and not the TA's? I guess either way, the date is confirmed.

M1984 -I don't know!! It seems kind of confusing. But I wouldn't worry TOO much. Ill bet it works out fine.

So I think I found a STD! It's really hard for me! Anyone else have a hard time?

Im leaning toward pink, maybe teal. Our colors are bright blue, fushia, and bright orange.

Im hoping to send em soon. The wedding is April 9 2011. Im not sure about time lines for everything.

One more general question: who had a legal ceremony and who had symbolic? I think we are leaning toward having our legal day here first. We probably would only tell the BM and MOH...Im worried some people might be mad or not get it if we aren't "really" getting married there. Anyone who did a symbolic : did you pick your own ceremony script? Did you do regular vows? Im hoping no one will know the difference!

We got our resort confirmation code from our TA who received it from Apple Vacations. (Apple is the whole seller the TA went through to secure the room block). When I gave the info to dreams... I clearly stated the confirmation code and it was part of a group booking through Apple Vacations. (I swear I feel you.... because I went through the same thing... so frustrating!)

We decided that we were going to do a symbolic ceremony... The legal ceremony seemed too complicated for us. (Too many rules/regulations to follow). So we are actually getting married at the court house the day before we leave to PV.

Also, we are doing our own ceremony script and having a close friend marry us. I know it sounds weird, but I wanted to know the person who was going to perform the ceremony. That way he can add his little stories and two cents. The actual vows will be traditional, but we will be writing our own ceremony script. (I can email it to you once we write it.)

Oh and I don't think anyone will be mad... they will not even ask or know that the legal ceremony already took place. Trust me everyone will be so happy and celebrating...it will not even cross their minds.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
