But in the background you can see the tables and chairs they have for Zocolo (they are wicker and square shaped/the tables are square), it's the ones they use for in the restaurant. You can see that some people were actually seated in the booths and some are freestanding. Also, you can see the area for dancing. And there's a separate bar area, which is nice, but it's shared with other guests, not private. You can also see they have wind guards they pull down, but our tealights and candles did not stay lit whatsoever. When you walk into the terrace area from outside: to your right is the bar, and to the left is where they will set up/move tables and chairs. The ones not being used are kind of shoved to the side in the back area where you can have your dance area and Ipod/DJ. If people are at the bar area, you can't hear any announcements or music very well.
And in the photos from the ceremony, you can see on the side that the groom is standing the stone now extends out past the Gazebo covering. That is what they were working on before our wedding, then after, they were starting on the bridesmaid side (which I don't think you can see the difference in these photos). The only thing I can think of is this is maybe going to be the alternate location for receptions?? But it is definitely smaller than the original Plaza deck and I'm not sure if the Gazebo will stay there?? In the map that Tracy posted, they were not doing anything to the circled area when I was there last week.
In the pictures of us at the beginning, that is the Plaza deck, they added the wall, and those huge columns. After my wedding they started to add benches and a huge roof on the top. I have some other pics I have to find that I took before we left the Resort.
I also added some pics from the bonfire we had on Friday night, they did a really nice set up with chairs, bean bags, music, and a full bar. I have some more pictures to upload that I took of it as well. I also have pictures of how they set up the beach for the romantic private honeymoon dinner to upload from my camera. I've been having problems with my camera connection and our computer, it's a MacBook, and it's suddenly not compatible.

And I'm not sure if brides from Azul Fives are still checking this board...but the last place we stayed on our honeymoon was right next to the Fives and it doesn't look promising. I spoke with some guests at the Sensatori that were moved from there and they said they heard that now it's not even opening They were given less than 6 weeks notice and they had a group of 50ish. I didn't see much construction going on when I was next to it. And the beach is miniscule, our hotel that is tiny had a larger beach.....

    Hey Erika,

Did you feel the Smore's Party was worth it? I know you mentioned that the tiki torches were blowing out...Did your guests enjoy themselves? Also, did you feel the Zocalo Terrace was well lit?

        Hello Ladies-
So I just wanted to post a brief review but will have more details later. My wedding was April 16th. I will say there was good and bad. Honestly if you are one who stresses easily you may want to consider another resort. I am about to be a business owner so I think maybe my expectations are a bit high but this place is very much lacking in many areas.

When we arrived the front desk was a mess. It was like it was their first day of being open. It took us over an hour to be checked in and we were the only ones to arrive. I think that most of the time was spent fighting off the salesman who was trying to sell us a time share. It was beyond annoying, although I will say that the champaigne made it a bit easier. There was some sort of mix up with our room and they didnt know when our honeymoon suite would be available. I told them we would be out by the pool so when they had it figured out just let us know but they still made us wait while they kept leaving to check on something. Very frustrating. they also told us we owed them $500.00, when we had paid for everything the month prior. they did this to several of our guests as well so be careful of this.

Our room was beautiful. Beds very comfortable. The resort was amazing. We travel to Mexico once or twice a year so I will say that is some respects this resort does blow away the typical resorts. Food was great, drinks were flowing. Just avoid the front desk area.

So on our second day we had to meet with the wedding coordinator. We had the plaza reserved 4-5 months ago. We were told that the plaza was no longer available but they would give us a free upgrade to zocollo. Well that to me was not an upgrade. I wanted my reception outside and zocollo although on a terrace/patio was not what I had reserved. I was pretty taken aback especially since this was never mentioned before. They also told us that for our romantic dinner lobster was no longer available. Again a disappointment. I dont feel as though they were very compensating at all considering this last minute change and in fact I almost felt as though they were a bit rude about it. We left the meeting very upset and to be honest I was in tears.

The next day they called and told us our ceremony location was no longer available. We had the area on the beach closer to the pier, which is a bit more private. Apparantly the resort had planned a beach night for guests and were going to be selling all the cheesy sombreros and things out on the beach so they said they had to move me down the beach to the other side. Well I think this was really the straw that broke the camels back with me. It really made me upset that I would choose a resort who thought so little of my wedding that they could just move us with no thought to it. I did start to get upset with the coordinator and had to hand the phone over to my fiance because I couldnt even talk anymore. They then offered to upgrade us to the skydeck for free but I wanted to be married on the beach. It was very stressful to have things changed at the last minute when you have had them planned for months. they seem like small details but trust me when its days before your wedding it seems like a big deal.

We decided on wedding on the beach (at the side closest to the premium section) with our reception at zocollo. It was very windy every night so we thought that was the best choice for us. The day before the wedding they called us and told us the new plaza was ready. I was a bit upset about another change but was happy that it was outside. Our honeymoon suite was reserved for the premium section but they told us that that was not available so moved us to the family section. I was also not very happy about that either but it ended up being more private in that location so that was ok.

My wedding day everything was perfect. My flowers were beautiful, the coordinators were all so helpful and right on time for everything. Actually having the ceremony were we did ended up better. Our photographers said the pier in the background at the other location would be sticking out of my head in all the photos:) They decorated the ceremony location and the new plaza perfectly. It was just amazing! We did the $12 entrees for our reception and it was the best meal we had all week. Everyone raved about the food and how great the staff was at the private reception. It was more than I could have even imagined. Our photographers were brilliant (Nells and Anna Akerlund) and I think helped us as though they were coordinators in addition to photographers. We were so happy we flew them in. I will post my wedding and TTD photos from them when they come in.

I think that I still would recommend the resort, in fact I think we will probably return to another Dorado resort on our next trip. I just wish we could have removed all the unnessessary stress prior to the wedding which really could have been avoided with a little communication. We did have some complaints from guests as far as rude service at the pools and bars. Some people didnt have hot water in their rooms, etc. Several of our guests had long check outs as well and were told they had balances when they didnt.

I hope this doesnt scare anyone but I just think that honesty is best and its good for you to know that there may be some bumps in the road your first few days. I feel like everyday we were there got better and better and we didnt want to leave. Hope this helps:)

Anybody else TOTALLY worried about this flu outbreak?!!
Our friends and family are asking if we are even going to bother going now or to just call it off and do something small here. I am frustrated because we had a vision in mind and now everyone is putting the two cents in. Not to mention we would loose money as well if we did back out!

We leave in 2 days and I am very worried! Everyone keeps calling us and asking if we're still going....UGH! Stupid swine flu!!!! I just hope we don't have people cancel at the last minute! I just tell them to see if their Dr. will give them Tamiflu as a preventitive.....even though as of yet, there are no cases in Cancun or in the resort areas!

Here's an email I received from my TA. Maybe worth sending to your guests to quell their concerns:

                "Dear clients,

The swine flu news is blown way out of proportion. This is an influenza concentrated in the Mexico City region, where many residents have no medical care. As in the USA, when it is flu season, those infected people, who do not seek medical attention, suffer worse than those who consult doctors. The cases of swine flu that have occurred in the USA have had the symptoms of the regular flu - which during the year, does not stop us from proceeding with our normal daily lives - nor should this disturb our travel plans.

The CDC has not issued any travel warnings, and the US government has stated that this is NOT an advisory to cancel travel - especially to the resort areas, particularly the Cancun area, where there are no cases of the flu. It does advise, that frequent hand washing, etc. is, as always (even in the USA), the best way to avoid illness."

I appreciate your honesty!! I can't imagine that type of stress right before our wedding! Ugh! I'm hoping the alcohol helped you relax a bit after dealing with those people. It does sound like things worked out okay and the trip ended on a better note than it began. Can't wait to see your pics ( I just looked up the photogs...wow)!

We have set as a goal picking a resort by this weekend. I really like the concept of Azul, but am not sure I want the drama you had to deal with on our wedding day. I'm pretty torn, and my sweet laid-back FI said he'll be happy anywhere, as long as I still marry him:) Congrats on your marriage and thanks again for being so honest.
Love is not about finding the right person, but creating a right relationship. It's not about how much love you have in the beginning but how much love you build till the end.
