Moon Palace 2008 & 2009 Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

This has been quite the year for a destination wedding in Mexico. First the economy tanks, then Mexico has the whole militant drug killing fiasco, and now the swine flu. My guests are FREAKING OUT about the swine flu as the U.S. just declared a public health emergency today on it.

In addition to the government freaking people out, airlines have jumped on the bandwagon and are now offering free ticket changes if you are traveling to Mexico between April 25 and May 6, 2009 which is of course is the exact time that we are going to be in Mexico.

Why do public officials have to go overboard with everything and freak everyone out? I mean they issued this public health emergency because 20 people in NYC suddenly have flu-like symptoms. 20 people out of an estimated population of 306,297,221 - that's .000000065% of the population. Really? A public health emergency over that small of a percentagehuh.gif

My excitement balloon has temporarily deflated. Boo hoo.

Oh Camie, what a PITA. I'm sorry your guests are being crazy! You would think people would realize how far away Cancun is from Mexico City. I say just use safe precautions and you all should be fine!

Matt and I were talking about this yesterday because his parents were freaking out about it - luckily our wedding is two and a half months out yet...

Good luck with this - I hope all your guests decide they can face a little flu for you!

Camie ~ that's really sh*tty. I'm so sorry for you. So far we haven't heard from anyone but you never know. We leave in a week ~ I just wish we could be there already and not have to worry about it. Hope that you don't get anymore cancels.

It has been quite the year! It's natural for guests to worry but it's the over-worrying that is frustrating. People concerned about going to Mexico due to a conflict in one part is as crazy as people not going to NYC because there's a wildfire in Montana.

Hang in there. Your guests who do decide to come will have a wonderful time!!

I just wanted to drop a quick line and let you ladies know that I saw a few weddings at the Moon Palace 2 years ago when I stayed at the resort for 10 days. They looked AMAZING! The setting for the first one I saw (from a distance) was so breathtaking that I can still "see" it in my head! Congrats! to you all, you will definitely not be disappointed with the service, location, or anything else at this resort!

Hi Hunnie, I posted a review of my beach wedding at the Moon Palace held on April 11, 2009 at the link below (it has pictures and the cost, my beach set up cost was $150). I loved the beach wedding!

Forgive me if this has already been addressed. I did a few searches on this thread and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Are most of you taking table decorations with you? I want to bring my own table covers or table runners but I don't know the size of the round tables. There was discussion on large rectangle tables that seat 14 versus round tables. Is there a choice and if so is it free or an extra charge?

Also, is anyone planning to bring paper lanterns or have you seen the outdoor reception decorated with them? Does the resort offer them and/or offer candles?

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone for the gazebo input! I was also thinking of the chapel due to the wind and the pews since we are also having a small guest list, but the Tucan is the closest. One of my reasons for deciding on a destination wedding was to limit stress about this stuff. I just keep trying to tell myself that where ever we end up will be fine!

Drtracy - Thank you for the picture offer! I love seeing any pictures of the resort!!!

As for the swine flu outbreak, I am right there with all the brides saying that guests are now freaking. My mom called me yesterday and said, "Don't freak out, but...." I thought we finally got over the drug/violence problem and now we have this! My wedding is 3 months away so I'm hoping this goes away before we leave, but now our "certain" guests are even seriously questioning going...

Is there anyone canceling their wedding because of the sine flu outbreak? I have so many people telling me that they are not coming unless we go to a different country!!! I don't know what to do I LOVE Moon Palace and heard that the Punta Cana Moon Palace doesn't have wedding yet so I might be SOL. I am so upset right now I can barely breath!

Regarding the swine flu - I am going to hang in and wait to see what happens. For those of us who have few months to go, I think waiting to see how bad this gets in the next few weeks will be important, but I'm not going to panic yet. I don't really see a reason to - there's a lot of precautionary stuff going on, but nothing is definite! I know it's going to take A LOT more than a flu to keep me from my dream wedding dangit!!!

mrseddy - I know a lot of people have brought their own table decorations, and I know you get rent them for a reasonable price too. I'm not planning on bringing anything - I think the natural backdrop will be beautiful enough! If I really decide I want candles or something, I will probably rent them through MP - I don't want to deal with customs and how heavy my bags will be. I'm a weakling. I know a couple who brought a bunch of stuff down for their wedding decorations, and then on the way back ended up having to pay tariff on all of it because they didn't have receipts stating it was already theirs, so be sure to bring receipts if you do bring something down with the intention of bringing it back!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
