Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

That's weird - I wonder why she said you couldn't do the mixed grill? I'm not liking that the other dinners are served on plastic instead of China but it's a difference of $1600. For that we could treat our guests to an excursion or something.

When you asked about the Mixed grill did she give you any details as to what it was? FH thinks it's just a bunch of meat thrown in together (like a stirfry) but I have no clue.

Whew! I just caught up to the last post. Only took me two days! When I started I was not sure about which resort. I think we've narrowed it down to Bahia Principe (I really like Akumal, but I LOVE Mexican food and it is really important to me to have it at the reception dinner, so Tulum it would have to be!). All your comments and photos have pretty much sealed the deal! I'm just going to look quickly into Palladium and Grand Riviera Princess.

Before I decide, I wanted to see if BP have my range of dates open. I've emailed the wedding coordinators twice now, but no response. It just sort of seems silly to make a commitment to a resort if there is a possibility they may not be able to accommodate your date and time. Weird, eh? I guess I'll try again? Has this happened to anyone where they booked the resort only to find out their date or dates weren't available? (We're shooting for week of Jan 24 '09)

Oh, I was just looking at the Bahia Gourmet link and there is a Mexican restaurant on the Coba side. Does anyone know about this one? Was I reading somewhere that if you're staying at Coba you can eat at any Tulum or Akumal restaurant? Does anyone know the ceremony sites for Coba?

When we were trying to plan, the WC didn't respond to me (or FH - I sent a message from his email too) once. However, our TA was able to get a hold of them so trying getting your TA to contact them. I was really worried about them not responding. Once you give them your travel booking number though, it's a whole other story. Now the WC emails me back within a day - two days tops!

As for Coba, it's not on the beach. I'm not sure if that's a big deal for you (since we have beautiful beaches here!) but it's something to take into consideration.

Also, I might be wrong on this, but I don't believe you can have your wedding dinner in a gourmet restaurant. I don't know why I think that though so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope, you can't have your wedding dinner in a gourmet unless you have less than 6 (I think or maybe it's 8 ) people coming.

You can eat anywhere on the resort (doesn't matter where you stay). So if you stay at Tulum, you can eat there or Coba or Akumal. If you stay at Akumal, you can eat there or Coba or Tulum, etc. EXCEPT for the wedding dinner - if you stay at Coba, your wedding dinner has to be at Coba. Stay at Tulum, wedding dinner is at Tulum, etc.

Amanda... this is the e-mail that I wrote to Yuritzia... and what she replied back to me with...

For the dinners that you attached, will it be OK that I will have less than 50 people attending? I thought I would have to choose the Grill option which is for groups of thirty. Please let me know.

In this case the Grill option can't be performed for a wedding dinner because the set up it's with disposable cutlery and dishes, you will have to choose a thematic dinner and I can make a big exception if you are a minimum of 35 people otherwise you will have to have your dinner at the Dolce Vita restaurant, Italian food (it's the one that I have available)

Hi Ladies.

I am looking into this hotel. The Akumal side. I like that the WC responds to me rather promptly (usually within 24 hours) and she has been very good with answering all my questions. I def. need a private reception does any1 know if it is possible to have our private poolside dinner set up with a dance floor and a dj so it can flow right from eating into dancing, or kind of both at the same time? Thanks!

Yup, that's what I had. You need 50 guests (unless you can convince them to make an exception for you). It's $46 per person for dinner & drinks and then $150 an hour for the DJ.

The reception will be held by the pool from 7:30-10:30

Hope that helps!

I wonder if Yuritza let's things slide more and Jazmin is more by the book? Jazmin said we go do the theme dinner but that we would be charged for 50 people even if there was less then 50.

Has anyone stayed at the Tulum side (with Jazmin) and convinced her to charge you less then 50 people for the private reception?

Hi everyone! My boyfriend ( very soon to be fiance) and I are really interested in GBP and we are wondering how far in advance you have to book the date with the resort?? We want to get married June 2009, and I am just curious when to book it. PS thank you so much everyone for all of the information! It is so helpful!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
