quite the experience to swim with them! the boat we chartered took us around to see several of them... i'm not sure how many different sharkes we say, but I'd guess 5 or 6 different ones.

They monitor radio frequencies that have other boats who find the schools of sharks, then give the position away so other boats can find them... they are always moving.

that shark was easily 50 feet long. Its head was as big as our car! Expect to budget 70-100 per person for this day trip. Our caption (Caption Pulpo) took us on reefs snorkling after the shark experience and even offered to go fishing.

Unfortunately, Sol doesnt do too well with waves, so take your dramamine for this tour!

We will be taking a small video camera. I want to make a slideshow after the wedding blending together pictures & videos from all the fun. There will be 21 of us going on the Coba excursion in 2 vans. We are going to ask them to drop some people off who don't want to go to the cenote & then come back to pick the rest up. I emailed to see if that is OK, but didn't heard back. We have the vans for 7 hours so I don't think it would be a problem. Maybe I'll have to pay extra for gas.

Thanks again for the tip. I really think it will be the perfect excursion for my group.

This is a wonderful idea. I am getting married at Moon Palace in Cancun and I am getting a little nervous. I want to make sure everything is just right. Any suggestions or previous experience with this resort would be greatly appreciated!

I thought of another "I'd do again"

 

First, try a new cerveza OTHER THAN CORONA. Sheesh, these folks market like crazy to get you to think that it is the mexican beer, when in fact, fewer mexicans actually like it.

 

There are a SLEW of great ones, my personal favorite: Cerveza SOL

 

Wonder why eh? Oh, try a Chelada (beer on ice with lots of lime) salted rim, yum yum!

AAAWWWW....Matt you are too sweet, no wonder she fell for you. :-) And I second the one about the sunscreen. :-)

 

For those that have a few days in the Yucatan Peninsula and can head out of the resort area I would suggest visiting a hacienda (I love them so much I started a thread about them here.) Some haciendas are hotels and have restaurants, a fantastic way to try the real cuisine and culture of Yucatan that you won't find at a resort. There is a great one in Chichén Itza, the Hacienda Chichén Itza, this is where the archeologists had their base camp when they first excavated Chichén Itza in the 1920s. You can have a wonderful lunch on the terrace of the hacienda (try the sopa de lima!), and walk through the jungle directly into the ruins to explore on of the Seven Wonders of the World (we are so proud of that distinction!) then walk back to cool off in the swimming pool, at night there is a light and sound show back at the ruins that is awesome.

 

PS, I photographed one of my first hacienda destination weddings at this hacienda, it is a fabulous wedding destination as well.

I loved Xel-Ha the first time I went, but didn't enjoy it all that much this time, so while I would recommend doing it, I wouldn't do it again

 

We went to the Dos Ojos cenote and that was pretty cool - we didn't do any others though so I can't compare. I was told (by the concierge at our resort) that Dos Ojos and Hidden World are actually the same place, just entrances at opposite ends, and that the difference is that Dos Ojos is run by locals while Hidden World is run by an american company. It only cost us 30$ versus the 70 or 80$ entrance fee at Hidden World. Maybe somebody else can confirm that they are in fact the same. Anyways, it was definitely a really cool experience which I would recommend.

May be it's a little off topic but i just wanted to say one thing i would've done differently!

I would shop for a wedding dress more carefully! Out of everything I could pick wrong I picked a bad wedding dress. It’s was so uncomfortable, sliding off my chest the whole time, so all I see on my pictures now is my boobs, they’re all over the place. I’m probably overreacting a little bit, but all I know is I wasn’t happy with it!

So my advice to brides to be would be pick your dress carefully, try it on 1000 times, put your hands up, then down, then up again and jump , twist ets. And takes lots of pictures of it! See how it looks on pictures. Then if you still love your dress – BUY IT!!! Other wise you will be looking at your pictures going: "What was I thinking…."

I know last time I was in cancun we could only get corona & dos equis at the hotel. I hope the hotel we are staying at this time has a variety. I love tying new beer.

Rachel and I were married on May 4th and we're still reeling from the event. We plan to type up a full account with photos but this is a good place to start with a couple tips.

 

DO: plan to party right after the ceremony. We had a great band: Alebrijes (Victor Espinoza [email protected]) to play music for the ceremony. Then right after they kicked in and everyone was dancing on the beach. We had bought maracas, tambourines and wooden whistles on 5th street and passed them out and it was the highlight of the evening. Dancing to live Latin music on the beach as the sun went down and shaking tambourines and blowing whistles. We've got some great video of this. I've seen a lot of weddings and the energy builds during the ceremony and then afterwards there's nothing to do for an hour and the energy evaporates.

 

DON'T: Forget to drink lots of water. I forgot and got dehydrated and had a bad cold for a week.

 

DON'T: Plan too much. The end of the night snuck up on us and we never got to the iPod dancing playlist. It was fine though, it was such a great night and all the dancing happened on the beach. We were glad it was only an iPod and not a band or DJ that we hired. In our planning minds we thought we would have more time, but time flies when your having the time of your life.

 

There's a few but we'll think of more.
