Bad airline choice????

Recommended Posts

We just recently booked our airfare and since have read some really horrible reviews!!We decided to go with the ecomomy airline SpiritAir since we have spent so much on the wedding. I know you get what you pay for but now I am really worried about delays and overbooking. Someone even mentioned in one review that they ran out of fuel on one trip and had to stop at a Miltary base to fill up and was stranded there for 3 hours!! So has anyone flown this airline and can give me some reassurance?? I am flying from Detroit, MI to Montego bay in May. Thanks!!!

I have flown on this airline from Chicago to Tampa but never internationally. It was just fine for that flight. I mean no frills but no problems either. I always find with those reviews there are always some that are no good. Some people always need to complain. I doubt a military base would allow a plane to land on their runway these days but who knows.

I have flown SpiritAir many times. I flew to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico and the Virgin Islands. All flights were from Washington DC and I only had one problem with all those flights. It was about an hour and a half delay but they ended up giving us a free voucher of $100 towards a future flight. Not too bad in my cases. I would recommend them.

Hey,

I just returned from my first flight with Spirit Airlines...no problems.

I will mention a few things though that may help you in planning...

1. The leg room is really tight. I mean - leg room is always tight in coach - but on Spirit - it is TIGHT. And I don't mean "tight" in a good way! lol

So...you may want to book an aisle seat so you can stretch your legs.

2. You have to pay for any checked luggage. I didn't know this when I booked. Thankfully I saw this when I went to confirm my schedule a few days before the trip. If you pay for your luggage BEFORE you get to the airport - it is half price.

3. You will have to pay for anything you want to eat or drink on the plane and they don't accept cash. So...have a debit card or credit card ready if you want to do that.

We have flown Spirit many times out of Atlantic city to florida and Jamaica and EVERY flight has been perfect. I prefer Spirit because it flys out of AC and I dont have to travel to the bigger airports of philly or newark. The only hassel is for mexico and jamaica we have to switch planes in fort lauderdale. But for the price I dont think you could beat it. We just went to florida 2 weeks ago on the spur of the moment I booked 3 days before flight and we paid 55.00 WITH TAX each. So DONTTT WORRY, Anything could cause a delay with ANY airline.

I am kinda frustrated now. I called Spirit Air today and they said that inorder for me to take my wedding dress as a carry-on I would have to be able to fold it and put it in the overhead compartment. My dress is light and not too bulky but still, I really do not want to do this. I was told other airlines would store it in the captins closet. I am really wishing I would have researched this alittle better!!!censored.gif

Oh no that stinks. Perhaps you will get a nice airline steward and they will hang it up for you.

I am praying that is the case. I have to decided which stance to take. The super-nice kill the stewardesses with kindness so they feel the should help me out or sick my no nonsence BM who is traveling with me and will complain until she gets results on them....hhhmmmmm LOL I think I will try the first option first! If that doesn't work, I will have my BM do my dirty work..:-) j/k

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
