My 2 cents :)

DW is basically the luck of the draw. Sure you could get a good or even great TA, but you also could get a crappy TA. Why risk it? Just find a TA local to you or use one of the TA's on BDW -- you can read other's reviews, etc, and then decide for yourself who to go with.

I really think DW is kind of a scam... especially since they make you pay $50 to get "assigned" a TA... that's just crazy.

If you've been one of the lucky ones to get a great TA with DW, consider yourself lucky because it is really the luck of the draw.

If you've gotten a bad one and have legitimate complaints, call or write to DW and demand your deposit back. They will say no but be persistent! They had the gall to quote me their 'satisfaction guarantee' while still refusing me the refund! I was clearly not satisfied, had been lied to by the TA, and DW had been less than honest when they said that the TA's deal "Exclusively with destination weddings"...

Anyway sorry for the long rant. They just really upset me.

I am using them and my TA has been very responsive not matter what time of night or day I email or call her. Cause I tend to ask a lot of questions. So far all I have done is got the quotes for travel and picked a resort. But from my understanding, I will work directly with a WC at the Riu Negril.

I am using DW.com. I also found out that they are TAs. Pam is helpful but I think that she offered Beachs Negril as being the best place for me when she knew that I'd probably have liked somewhere cheaper.I didnt even know about RIU and some of the other all inclusives. Now I have guests staying at both Beaches Negril and Beaches Sandy Bay which is not as nice but is cheaper. Her prices are also higher than what some other guests have been able to find but I hinted t her that some of my guests are going to book by themselves if they can find a cheaper price, and we've now been getting cheaper quotes.:-)

She is generally helpful though and it would have ben difficult to this by myself.

DON'T HINT - TELL HER
I just had to go back to my destinationweddings.com TA yesterday to tell her that the regular AAA TA my friend and I used last year was coming up over $400 less per person for our resort for the same amount of days with taxes and transfers and she has been able to match almost completely.

I'm also using DW and my TA has been great. She may not return my phone call right away some days and some days she does. But I'm a busy person, my wedding is still 9 months away, and this is okay with me. When it's *important* she does return calls promptly. When I say 'oh, when you get a chance' then yeah, it may be the next day.

I will say that you have to be careful with the pricing- we have had to kind of beat a dead horse on the whole 'direct with the resort is cheaper than your wholesaler' thing, but I am happy because we are getting our travel through AmEx's travel company and I've heard good things about it.

I will say that I did have to take the reins and do some legwork on my own, and in the end I tailored my wedding/honeymoon to fit us. Was it a pain in the TA's @$$? I'm sure. Did I care? Somewhat. Do I feel bad about it? No. It's our wedding, and honestly, no one is going to care as much about your wedding as you do.

From what I can tell, I got lucky with my TA though. It seems many here are unhappy they went through DW. I hear that where it counts is when snafu's happen that DW is worth it.

Hi, just wondered where you ended up deciding to go. I'm also using destinationweddings.com. I'm VERY overwhelmed with the whole process right now. I'm not even that picky about the location, but there are just SO many more options that I could have even imagined. Also, who is you TA? Are things working out well with the two of you? Thanks

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
