  1. I am getting married at Secrets Capri, May of next year It was an extremely hard decision to make, seeing as, my fiance and I have never been to the resort. We have mainly stayed at Riu's and found it time, to stay at an all adults (huge plus for us), and a place that is smaller and more intimate. I picked Capri, based upon MUCH research that I did online, and emailing other brides who I have found from this website as well as searching "secrets capri wedding" on google. A lot of photo results, which looked great, and came with reviews from brides as well. I also did MANY searches on tripadvisor to see reviews/pictures of the resort, and 99% of what I read and saw, was positive. I have also researched photographers websites to get a glimpse of what the weddings/receptions look like as well. delsolphotography, has done a few weddings over there, and was pretty much the closing decision for us. We will be having a smaller wedding celebration, about 20 people. Carolina is a busy woman, but has sent me all the info I need, and we have secured our date. We won't get much for stuff, until the date is closer. All packages, I must say though at EVERY resort is pretty much copy/paste and the same thing. Not much variety, but whatever, we're getting a mariachi trio, so we're stoked. I hope my input has somewhat helped you. If you want something smaller, private and great service I'd take Capri. I haven't heard too much about the other one, so research the crap out of it choosing a place to celebrate forever is definitely not an easy choice to make. Good luck.
  2. Hi Ladies, I am pretty set on having faux flowers at my wedding, seeing that they cost cheaper and look just the same. I wanted to know from anyone with experience, or anyone traveling with faux flowers, how are you intending on packing them without damaging their shape? Carry on? Packing? I have a few things that I'm bringing (or more than a few) including small empty bottles and maybe some tin cans. Are these to be carried on the plane WITH my dress as well? It's pretty much the only thing I have anxiety about at the moment ........I got 11 more months to worry about other things Thank you!!!
  3. When people are writing "ceremony" songs", does it mean, when guests are sitting? walking down the aisle... and?
  4. How did you get all of your flowers to your destination? I am planning on bringing quite a few things, but they travel well, faux flowers, I can't imagine travel as well as my other items!
  5. @@BusyBee280 If the info is on any of those documents you have, do they show what a "basic" set up is? I'm thinking we're going to go for the Ultimate package if we have as many guests as we think we may have (10-15 plus the 2 of us). Also, what will you be adding? Are you adding a photo package? Where will you be having your ceremony? Reception? A dj? or just a soundsystem set up? I'm wondering if things like, maracas, papel picado decor and small things like that would be extra. Trying to figure if I should purchase these before time. Thanks!!! Also, when did you send out your RSVPS? and how long in advance do you want them to be sent back to you before you plan your budget/package? This is what I'm having a hard time with.
  6. Greetings Brides and Brides to Be, I am planning on getting married at Secrets Capri, and venturing out for a reception dinner on the town. I wanted to know if anyone can recommend a GREAT mexican restaurant? There is one that we went to last time, where the bathrooms are located inside of a tiny inn. Inside this inn, there is a tiny pool? I would love to know what this place is called. I'm also interested in a beach restaurant/club. We're trying to do this as laid back and fun as possible. Only 10 guests or so. Recommendations are needed No fancy shmancy places please. Cheers!
  7. @@jsimppharmd We are just doing the beach ceremony there. Going out for dinner on the town afterwards. I battled with the idea of a reception, but there is just too much "stuff" to think about, so we opted out of that. I think bringing your own ipod is a fantastic idea, but I'm guessing if you want someone to control that for you, a dj would be best. @@Shan1123 have you had any luck with getting fast replies from the wedding cordinator? And did you book your actual hotel stay with Secrets or a travel agency?
  8. I am not able to open these :/ I am planning on getting there next May. Have you already put down your deposit to STD? I don't feel at ease sending a copy of my id and card #. I also have had a hard time with getting responses from the wedding planner. Fill me in on as much as you can How many people are you having at your wedding? And are you doing any DIY decorations?
  9. I FINALLY GOT IT TOGETHER!!!! I contacted Daymar from BV, and we are putting our deposit down! She recommended transportation roundtrip from party?something other (forgot the company) for $180. if anyone can recommend any cheaper that would be great!!! Once we get to the location, we'll be riding horses to the actual club, but stopping to do some snorkeling! Yeah, pretty awesome. Our small group will be hanging out on the beach, drinking, eating for a bit, and I'm hoping to sneak off at some point to start getting ready for our wedding. I'm sincerely hoping that there is some type of full length mirror in the bathroom so I can check to see what I look like before exchanging my vows. I will be doing my own hair and make up. Yeah, you can say we're kinda doing this non traditional. This is what's keeping me cool at this point, it's about us, not about anything or anyone else. Cocktail hour is in order after the ceremony, while we take our pictures.... then off to town for a pizza party! YESSSSS Can anyone recommend someone for transportation if cheaper than the rate I was given? Someone who does symbolic ceremonies? Thank you, thank you, thank you!
  10. Hi Ladies, I have been beating my head the past few months on what I want as far as a venue. Villas, hotels, private beach clubs.... and ultimately, my heart keeps going back to this place. We happened to fall onto this place after a snorkeling adventure. It's pretty much everything we want. We are probably having a very small and intimate wedding, 10-15 people... if that. My question to you ladies, is how did you get your guests to this place? I am pretty sick of all the "wedding packages" thrown together by hotels, they are one in all the same, as I imagine the buffets are. If I can't do the blue venado, I am probably going to do a private villa wedding. I thank you for your time!
  11. Cancun is nice, beautiful, like Playa Del Carmen, but the resorts are more squished together, so more populated beaches. Playa Del Carmen, Maroma, Tulum, are a bit more spaced out, and there are clubs that you can have wedding at, that are much more private. I also haven't seen anything about wedding at Hard Rock Cancun.
  12. Hey Ladies, I usually use Appleone for booking all of our vacations. A few months back, when I have dove into researching the "perfect" place to get married, Appleone did offer pricing for Secrets Maroma. Today, when I checked their site for pricing, they do not have Secrets Maroma offered anymore!!!!! I'm happy I did not put a deposit down with the WC, due to the fact, that I am now clueless onto any websites that offer travel/hotel packages for Maroma. I'm not really into using sites like travelocity, expedia, etc. etc. May anyone recommend a great travel agent/website that does group packages for Maroma? I kind of took it as a sign, that maybe I should just start looking for another resort, but on the second hand, maybe not. Thank you for the help!
  13. So, We are planning on having 20 people at our wedding, mostly couples. We usually go with applevacations, for our travel agent. Does anyone have any recommendations for booking/discounts for a certain amount of people who are booking one specific hotel?
  14. @@Carlicardenas tacky? It's smart. who cares what other people think. keep in mind... it's YOUR WEDDING!!! Have garbage bags on the table, who cares! It's whatever YOU want.
  15. @@krisdaversa When you mention the down payments, are you going through a travel agent to get a lower rate for guests rooms? I am thinking of going through Applevacations.com, which we go through for traveling, to see if we can somehow get our guests a lower rate. Please inform me a little more on this
  16. We're booking our wedding for May 2015!!! I'm beyond excited!!!! I wanted to start making Save the dates, and wanted to actually send them out by February, THIS YEAR! So, in a month Our wedding party isn't going to be large, but I just want to make sure everyone has enough time to collect coin and be able to join us for our extremely special day. By May 2015, we will have been together for 10 YEARS!!!! I wasn't sure if a year 1/2 is too much time? Or if it is good time!?! We've given everyone a heads up about our wedding plans, but not the date. Please give me your input
  17. @@hanaefaith have you tried going to the resorts website? And going under weddings? I'd think that this is the best way to figure out who to contact, and see if they have wedding information that outlines what's included. $15,000 is more than enough for a wedding south of the border.
  18. I've always been a fan of faux flowers, and I'm so excited to see that brides are now incorporating them into their weddings!!!! I am planning on making my bouquet, with some fresh flowers (kidding) from Michaels!! I am also intending on getting some for the centerpieces! I cannot for the life of me, wrap my head around spending over $100 on flowers, when there are flowers EVERYWHERE!!! If any brides can post centerpieces they had using, real touch/fake flowers, please do so!! I need inspiration!!! I am attempting to make my reception either a smooth succulent and mellow color... or straight Mexico, I want mexican blankets for the table cloths and bright colored flowers for centerpieces. I think tin cans are an AMAZING idea, since they are durable, able to travel, and I'm sure I can go to my nearest mexican market and buy plenty for under $20. I've also seen some great ideas on pinterest. Spray painting them, hole punching to make pretty table lanterns, or wrapping them in twine or lace.
  19. I think this is a wonderful idea. When my friend got married, on her RSVP's she put 3 blank spots and above wrote "Three songs that make you want to dance". I believe I will be incorporating this into my wedding, seeing as, above stated, there are clubs all over the place, and why spend a ton of money on a dj? Don't the resorts have something (like the speaker system) to plug the ipod into? Or are the bose things good enough?
  20. @@MrsHK How did you get your bottles down to Mexico?! I want to bring a few things down with me, for our reception, but can't figure how to get them over safely!!!
  21. why is kale somehow super essential to your vegan style diet? I have followed a vegan diet for a few months, and kale is never in my shopping cart. Eating clean is amazing, for all aspects. Cheese no longer entices me, it grosses me out, as well as the thought of drinking milk. I used to go through a gallon of milk a week and eat cheese with all my meals. Gross. Maybe you should actually look into how meat, cheese and other dairy products are made, and realize, how disgusting it is and how good you are doing for your body as well as the planet and other living creatures. Coconut oil is a great thing to sautee your veggies in. Gives it a great taste. Coconut yogurt is amazing, add peanut butter to it, and some hemp granola. There are many alternatives, that are extremely good. I make breakfast scrambles without tofu... spinach, broccoli, red peppers, mushrooms sauteed in coconut oil, with refried beans, avocado and salsa verde from trader joes. Give it a shot, Educate yourself on the filth the dairy industry is, and maybe it will make you think twice about that cheese. Good luck
  22. Hello beautiful brides, and brides to be, I have been traveling the Caribbean, since my fiance and I have first gotten together. It has now become "our" thing, to do beautiful beach trips, and we both have it strong in our hearts to get married on a beautiful beach in Mexico. I have somehow stumbled upon, Secrets Beach Maroma. I don't know if it's the beautiful pictures, the somehow vacant beach in the background of the wedding, the adults only resort, or what, that has enticed me to say "Hey, let's get married here". I received the wedding price list this morning, and I am slightly confused. HERE IS THE QUESTIONS, PLEASE HELP, IF YOU CAN - I know there are actual wedding packages, so what are the list prices for ex: Gold or Silver Menu + 1 hour open bar + 15% grat BUT the package "includes" the dinner for up to 20 people? Are these breakdown prices, to show what you are actually paying for, or if extra people are to come (over the 20 people included in the package prince)? And DJ for $930.... We are attempting to budget our wedding at a VERY low price. We aren't ones to think that a wedding is to include everyone in the world that we know, but at the same time, I sincerely want my VERY close friends to be with me, since they are like my family. I would like to get as much advice as I can from anyone who is currently dealing with these details? Also in pictures i have seen, there have been very few table centerpieces, were these included in packages? or are these additional costs? Can I bring my own decor? Or will I be charged for that? I sincerely thank anyone who takes the time to answer my rambling questions HAppy New Years! I just did math, and for the open bar, food (gold menu for 30 people), ceremony music, reception music, dj (3 hours), dance floor and mayan ceremony added up to $4000. SO, is this on TOP of the fee you pay for a wedding package? Help!!!!
  23. Hey Beautiful Brides To Be, I wanted to ask, how many have you taken your own centerpieces/decor to your destination wedding, with luck? I am really, really, really set on a diy wedding, but... well, a destination diy wedding. We have our venue picked and all, but I'm wanting to package, ship, carry on whatever I need to bring to make it happen. Let me know your experiences!!!! Thank you!
