Help! I Think I Picked The Wrong Moh
lydiasusi replied to michellemanoogian's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
don't have anyone up there.... except you and your husband Simple. It's not about anyone else's feelings, except you and the one you're marrying. Weddings have become about other people, rather than the two people it's really about. Think about it. It's this creating more drama and stress, on top of what you already have to deal with? Wipe your hands of it.- 6 replies

Alteration Tips
lydiasusi replied to lydiasusi's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
So........ true story I went to the thrift store today, to find my Halloween costume. And you know how thrift stores always have some really super 80's wedding dresses that you're like... "oh shit, that's soooo ugly"..... Well, I actually found a wedding dress that is lace, mermaid cut, and the bottom half is silk. So amaze-balls. I bought the thing. $25. My friend didn't think I was serious. I tried it on and she told me "well, it is you". I take that as a compliment... an odd one, seeing that my style is a bit unique. I'm taking it to the tailor to get a quote, because yes, the sleeves suck, but my god, I'm so in love with it. Hopefully will be only $100 or less for altering. It fits like a freakin' glove. We were meant for each other. Anyone interested in an Oleg Cassini CWG482 dress? Bought it for $1000+ size 10. I'll sell for $700 OBO. Never been "officially" worn. Will be posting it in other forums soon. ::hits forehead:: -
Hair Extensions
lydiasusi replied to travelgal78's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I got my SKR hair extensions, and they come with clips. I love them. 185 grams for $140.... Sally's clip ins 80 grams for $129.......... "satin strands". I curl my sKR and the curl stays. check out reviews on youtube. sew ins do not give you headaches They make your head tender for a day, and then it goes away. Depending on how tight your stylist makes the braids, which is a good thing, meaning the braids will stay in a bit longer, than if they were to do them loose. I have done sew in quite a few times, and due to the fact that I still like to wash my hair with them, I do believe that quality hair is the best to use. I have done sew ins with Sally's hair, the brand was Euronext? The hair tangles so fast, and gets so gross, don't attempt it. Speaking from experience. The amount they give you is a joke too, considering they sell it for $100?-$120? For $40 you can buy virgin remy hair, with atleast twice the amount of hair. Buy good hair!!!! Good hair can last a whole year, or even more, with washing. -
Hair Extensions
lydiasusi replied to travelgal78's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Sally's offers a selection of hair extensions that are really, really, really poor quality. They are also very thin and are usually blended with horse hair or synthetic hair. This means, they're terrible to style, curl, and don't last very long. They matte super fast, and need to be brushed throughout the day. I recommend buying hair online. I have my extensions from SKR hair extensions. They are not of the greatest quality, but they are virgin hair, and they also give you SO MUCH HAIR!!! They come with clip ins already attached Luxury for princess is also a great extension line, but it's pretty expensive. -
Hair Extensions
lydiasusi replied to travelgal78's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I was and still am a partial hair extension junkie. Tape and anything that actually bonds to your roots is terrible, and would make your hair even more fine. I've reviewed tape since I was highly interested in it a few months ago, and the removing process looks horrible. I did glue in extensions a while back, and I'm sure it was no better than tape. Even though they make oils to help unbind the hair from glue/tape, it still tears your hair out by the roots. If you are trying to encourage your hair to grow, I would go with clip ins, or get a sewn in weave. I think clip ins would be more suitable for a destination wedding due to the humidity, and swimming. Hair extensions aren't meant to be in water continuously. So, if you're intending on wearing a swim cap to ensure your extensions are beautiful on your wedding day, then awesome. Else, your extensions will dry out and be damaged. It's dead hair, without any nutrients being transported to it, treat it nicely. My hair has finally grown back, from a terrible "box dye" incident I had years ago to a long 20 inches I still wear extensions so I can get volume. I will be wearing them on my wedding day as well, but clip ins. -

Alteration Tips

I went to DB yesterday as well as a local independent seamstress. I was quoted $400 at the independent shop, and $420 at DB. I have the Oleg Cassini CWG482, so I guess I'm screwed due to the bottom having so many tulle layers :/ The bustle gets added up as well, due to the layers on the train. I am planning on just starting with the sweetheart ($30) and hemming up the front ($120), then 2 months before I'll get the sides and bottom taken in as well as the bustle. I figure I might as well split the payments up since I do have a credit card and I'm still 6 months away. Bottom line, the less layers on a dress and details, the cheaper your alterations will be. -
My dress was to be "discontinued" and 3 months later it's still being sold, and at a cheaper price. If you have almost a year till your wedding, I wouldn't rush into buying something. Especially if you haven't even tried on dresses, and it's the first dress you want. I bought my "dream" dress, and ended up trading it in for another one. There are so many options out there, also try preownedweddingdresses.com

Hi Brides to Be! I will be getting married in 6 months!!! I am doing a non-denominational wedding at Secrets Capri. I have set up my playlist for my ipod, and emailed my wedding planner. I was told I needed 4 song, and 1 of them was to be used in the middle of the wedding. I am curious to know what type of ceremony they do at the resorts, where music is needed for the middle of the ceremony? Didn't know if I could go with Black Sabbath's "sabbra cadabra" or needed something more mild, like Otis Redding Any info would be great!

Diy Fiesta Wedding 6 Months Away
lydiasusi replied to lydiasusi's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I started on my paper flowers yesterday, and they're coming out lovely I will be bringing liquor bottles with me, seeing that I don't want to drink 5-10 bottles of tequila in a week. I'm also bringing the mexican blankets. Everything else will be purchased on 5th!!! Thank you for the heads up on the maracas! -

I'll be taking my dress to two local independent tailors today to get quotes I know I can't charge it to a DB cc, but maybe I can open a new card up at my band I'd rather support local business too!!! I've heard wonderful things about one of the shops. -

We will be in PDC a week before our wedding, so we got plenty of time I will probably head to Olivera St. in Los Angeles for a head start. You are very right, it depends on your personality. I am such a control freak, and if I wasn't able to get what I wanted, I'd be a bit upset! -
Alteration Tips

I was quoted around $400 for alterations with davids bridal :/ that was just to take it in, make a bustle and shorten it a bit. I will be taking my dress to a local seamstress to check out prices Thanks! -
Hey Ladies, 6 months till I say I do!!! I have a beautiful Oleg Cassini dress, that I need altered. I bought it from Davids Bridal, seeing as I was able to get a credit card through them, and thankfully pay off my dress already I wanted to know if ya'll have gotten your dress altered through davids bridal and if it came out nicely? I've heard pros and cons. I would like to go to a local tailor, but seeing as I am saving up and spending money on other things, I would not be able to pay all the money upfront :/ But, I'm sure I could work something out. I also wanted to know is 3 months a good time to go get it altered? I work out regularly doing crossfit, and cardio, so my body is getting tighter, but I don't think there will be any dramatic weight loss anytime soon. Thank you!

Diy Fiesta Wedding 6 Months Away
lydiasusi posted a topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
So, even though I try to express to myself, a wedding is NOT about the centerpieces, the flowers, the color scheme, I still cannot allow myself to go with what's offered at the resort I will be having my wedding at. I am not a traditional "bride", I don't want sparkles, starfish, and pink flowers. In the spirit of getting married in the beautiful country of Mexico, I am going with Mexico as my wedding theme. I want maracas, I want tequila bottles for my vases, marigolds as my flowers (faux), a few dia de los muertos trinkets, mexican blankets as my table cloths and Virgin de Gaudelupe candles gaaaloooore!!! My question to brides who have been married and have done purchasing south of the border for their decorations, would it make more sense to purchase most of these items when I get to PDC? Or do it before I leave in order to not have to worry about what I will find, and what I won't find? I am collecting a few bottles here, since I am not a liquor drinker, as well as purchasing my flowers at michaels as time goes on. I am just unsure if I should wait to get to mexico for maracas, papel picado and other small things. We are at 6 months away from our wedding, and I figure I should get a start on things, if I want to make them happen!!! Any advice would be great! Thank you! -
Diy Flowers - Best Way To Get Them There?
lydiasusi replied to MorganRene's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I think taking them down individually is the best idea. I also think, asking whatever close friends/family you have coming with, to bring some with them too is extremely helpful That's what I am doing! I will be buying a carry on luggage that is acceptable by our airline and taking it all with me -
Cancelling Bridesmaids?
lydiasusi replied to chelseapaige37's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Money is tight these days, and lets face it, bridesmaids dresses are really, really, really ugly and expensive. I think it's a great idea to pick a color you want them to wear... blue, pink, red whatever, and just tell them to buy their own dress wherever they want in the shade that you want. Compromise. I think it makes it better, since they get to pick a shade that works great with their own skin, as well as a dress that compliments their body, rather than picking one dress, that someone may look great in, and makes another girl feel like she wasted money on a dress that makes her look frumpy. I was in a wedding where the Bride wanted us to wear shades of off-white/ivory and it worked amazing. We picked out our own dresses. I was in another wedding where the Bride picked a specific blue, but we all got to get our own style of dress that we felt prettiest in. I personally, will not be having bridesmaids. I think some people think it's an obligation that they really don't want to commit to, and I can understand that. I believe that just having my girlfriends make the trip to Mexico is a huge honor in itself, I don't want to infringe more stuff on them. Good luck in whatever your end choice may be. -
I was in the same EXACT boat as you!!!! I had drooled over the Oleg Cassini CRL277 for YEARS, thinking it was "my" dress. I went to David's Bridal, tried it on, fell in love. YET, when I was trying it on, and wearing it, I noticed it to be super hot. I was also wearing that undershaper/bra and the slip, so I figured it was just nerves and the undergarments. Walked out with my "dream" dress. Took it home, tried it on, STILL HOT!!! I have also been doing weight training, so the dress kept getting bigger on me :/ I took it to a tailor, and she said I needed a smaller dress, due to alteration would cost too much to take it in. I figured I couldn't get a refund or exchange. Went back to David's Bridal, and they were nice enough to let me do a size exchange BUT they didn't have the smaller size in that day. I tried on the Oleg Cassini cwg482, and I knew, that that was going to be my dress. It was less weight. and perfect!!! They allowed me to do an exchange, since it wasnt cheaper than the CRL. In all honesty, I sweat, like really really bad. I don't want to be sweating more than usual on my wedding day, and having to worry about my make up getting all over my ivory dress, and just dealing with sweat in general. I think being comfortable is a HUGE part of feeling beautiful. I think you should listen to your gut feeling, and not have to worry about the sweating. See if maybe you can do some type of exchange? Tell the bridal store your situation and where you're getting married. I bought my dress 10 months before my wedding date. I think this is a bad idea, since you have so much time to think about tthe dress as well as see other dresses that you may fall in love with. Good luck!

Is It "bad" To Buy Real Starfish?
lydiasusi replied to nadiakat17's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Funny you post about this. I was just thinking the other week how it's pretty morbid that people unknowingly... or knowingly, use exoskeletons as wedding decor. Creeeeepy. I think there are many more creative ways to go about decorating. If that is what your heart desires, there are PLENTY of diy tutorials out there that show you how to create faux starfish. Great question -
Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun

I will be getting married at Secrets Capri next year -
I will be getting married at Secrets Capri May 10, 2015! Deposit has been placed and I am super excited! There are a few things that I am changing up, due to attempting to stay away from the typical "resort" wedding look. I will be bringing my own decor, as well as using Secrets "mexican" type decor for the reception. I have also been racking my brain in regards to selecting a photographer. There are so many to choose from, so please do your research before locking in any type of deposit with the first one you see. The one offered at the resort seems very pricey, and I can't really find any photos from whomever my photographer would be. That makes me iffy. I have decided to go with Octavio Montes, whom also seems to be quite the up and coming popular photographer, according to all the results that come up, when you search for his reviews in forums. I also fell across his work on preownedweddingdresses.com as well. The photos were the hook-line-sinker as well as his immediate responses with email. I have not found that in anyone else, seeing that it takes a few days to a week to get any responses. www.octaviomontes.com is where you can contact him. I believe your partner, your dress, your photographer are the significant things that will stand out most about your wedding If any ladies have any questions for me, please feel free to contact me!!!

My Mock DIY Centerpieces
lydiasusi replied to kerbear610's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
how many of those vases are you taking with you? are they going as carry on? I'm just trying to get an idea of how people are getting their glass wear to their destination. I feel as though, a dress PLUS decorations will take a lot of carry on room? @kerbear16 -
Please Help! Family Being Awful About Wanting A Mexico D/w.
lydiasusi replied to Sophiaone95's topic in Newbies!!
Do what YOU want. I have speculated over a similar problem with family and my destination wedding. My Father has a mental condition that really holds him back from being in any type of social situation, let alone small places packed with many people (airplane). My Mother is married to a man who I cannot stand, due to situations that I don't think I need to elaborate on, but it's been a long history, and years have passed and I do not care for who he is, what he stands for... yadda yadda yadda. My Father will probably not be attending my wedding, which I am very sad for. I love him dearly, and would love to be walked down the aisle by him. I contemplated getting married close to home, so I could just have him walk me. Yet, our hearts are set on getting married to what we call home from home (the yucatan). I will extend an invite, but I have told him "no hard feelings". My Mother on the other hand, I have to tell her that I will not be comfortable with her husband there, and would rather she came alone. I've been told this is rude and not acceptable, but you know what.... this is my day to celebrate with the ones I LOVE, and I'm not going to tolerate what I don't. All in all, I'm pretty much going to be getting married without either of my parents there :/ Same with my fiance. Our friends who love us, and have seen us grow, are the ones that are venturing out to celebrate our love. Those who can't make it, can't make it. No explanations are needed. Your wedding is about the two people getting married, not the amount of people there, the centerpieces, the color scheme, the flowers... it's about the two of YOU. There are plenty of people in the same boat, and I can say, as a woman knowing that both of my parents won't make it to see their girl walk down the aisle, I feel as though, this is still what I want. Good luck! <3 excuses are just people's way of saying "I don't want to". If there is a will, there is a way.
