  1. hm, maybe I should ask about these perks as well. We're also flying Transat but I didn't hear about any of this. My main one would be getting a place to store the wedding gown and the extra suitcase would be nice too. How are you guys bringing the suit down? We also have to bring two bridesmaid dresses with us, so I feel like a wedding dress +veil, a suit and two bridesmaid dresses would be too much for one garment bag. What do you guys think? @@ashhtayy I think you made the right call in claiming the price drop guarantee. Our trips were higher for most of the year until a couple of weeks before payment deadline (also your price drop guarantee deadline). I sent an email to my TA when they dropped about $100 but they didn't have the amount of rooms available at the time for us to claim it. Then little did we know, about 10 people cancelled last minute, so now the hotel did that the amount of rooms we needed, but the price had already gone up again. In the end it was a very small difference that we were able to claim but that's still something .
  2. I'd add some kind of safety pin or some other pin to them to attach them to the chair covers or sashes. Check out @@acw271011 thread, she added a pin to hers. A way of getting around the chair sashes loosening up is attaching the tassels to the white chair covers instead of the sashes.
  3. Beautiful dress . I think you could take it to the store where you bought it, even if in a different city, or you could try and research other alterations places. There's nothing wrong with shopping around for alterations, and it's a good thing that you have the dress so people can give you a more accurate quote of how much it would cost
  4. @@calgarybride2015 thanks. That really helps. I think it will be good to have a list of the "must haves". we already talked about when to pay the rest of our balance, but I think I definitely need to get a better idea of the timeline, etc. @@snswedding2016 that's a good idea, I know @@calgarybride2015 did that and it was so efficient! There's not a lot of us so it will be easier to get people together. PS: I couldn't even imagine losing one of the rings under a deck! Eeep! @@TNT2015 I got the picture from the hotel's website. I think my MOH tweaked it a bit when helping me with the brochure, but you can easily download it from the website.
  5. I love your story, sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants, and sometimes you also know when something is just meant to be and you do everything in your power to make it work . I'd say the second he moved to ON just for you guys to be together was a sign that he was a keeper . I think your planning is coming along great! I have all these spreadsheets that I barely keep updated haha, so in the end they're more work when I need them because I have to update them first . I found weddingwire was a good place to keep track of guests and RSVP's etc. It's not perfect, and I wish it had some extra functions, but it worked pretty well for me . I'm so happy you were able to get a good quote for AF. I was the same, the second I saw that terrace I was sold haha. One of the reasons why we're doing our wedding in August was because my MOH is a teacher, so she has it off. The fares were quite a bit cheaper too, and so it was a good way of getting a really nice hotel for less . Also, we had the choice of doing it in June or July, but with Juan finishing up school at the end of May, that left little time to get some money together and not be so strapped for cash by the time the wedding came around. It will be super hot, but that's ok, that's why we go there right?
  6. I know that for us two weeks seems like nothing before people have to put down a deposit, and this is the time when we all start freaking out. However, from your guests' POV they still have plenty of time, and they'll all pay like 2 days before the deadline haha, I'm not kidding. I think all of us have had the same experience. Just sit back and wait, people will come through [emoji4][emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I bought the dr. Scholl petals once but they are made out of plastic, so you can imagine what happens when it gets hot haha I like the petals ones because they're like a foam material, not the jelly plastic. They're a little more expensive but they seem more comfortable in my opinion. That makes sense for the table, and especially given that it's only one table, I would definitely add the table runner in blue. Otherwise it might look like it needs something extra Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah, that's exactly what I thought with the brochures. It's for when people first arrive, ready to have a good time, so I wanted to keep them fun. Compared to the more romantic feel of the wedding
  9. @@yycbride2016 I think the photo booth will be a hit! , I'm so excited about it. My dad and I will be working on the logistics this week, with his camera and tripod. It shouldn't be too hard though. They won't look like professional photos but it will be a fun time and it will give me something good to include in people's thank you cards. I bought the birdies clipart from etsy haha. I loved them because I wanted to go for more of a Mexican Fiesta feel for the OOT bags. I used them quite a bit to make different things.
  10. So far I can recommend mine! His name is Octavio Montes and he works in the cancun-riviera maya area. So far, what I can tell you about him is that he responds quickly, he is very nice and approachable, his prices are unbeatable and at least I love his pictures. . I should have a more complete review in about a month when I come back from my wedding (Wow, I can't believe I just said that! *insert freaking out face here*)
  11. @@mlklovestory716 @@snswedding2016 I think what you said is right on the money. For us, AF was a little more on the expensive side for guests, but I don't regret it. I've only heard amazing things from people who have gone, including random people that I barely knew! When I told them we'd be staying at that hotel they would say that they had been there and it was an amazing stay. Just for the wedding, we paid between $5000 and $6000 USD, which I thought was very reasonable. We upgraded to the sky deck, so that's including the $1700 and the $250 per table to include their decor. I know the prices have gone up a little bit since we booked in 2014, but it gives you an idea that it is possible to have a cost effective wedding at this resort. At times it really doesn't seem like it, as snswedding mentioned, Lomas likes to charge a lot for things, but at least there's ways around it in most cases. It does really come down to whether you can get a good quote or not. I'd try asking different travel agencies if they can find you a quote. Wright Travel (the sort of owners of this site) always have great deals going on, and I know they work closely with this hotel. Also, if you're not picky about your date, you can play around with different dates and see what comes out as the best price and go from there. Your best resource is definitely a good TA. Ask if there are other recommended hotels with similar venues. Another hotel that has an amazing terrace is Beach Palace in Cancun. We did a site visit there and it was gorgeous, but when we got quotes it was quite a bit more expensive than AF, which is why we booked where we did. I definitely wanted a terrace . It's also worth checking that out, as the prices are probably not always more expensive. I hope that helps!
  12. Those shoes look so comfy! I'd definitely get the petals. If nothing else, they'll at least provide some extra cushioning to the balls of your feet, that's always a plus for me! haha. I got some for my shoes and I'm glad I did. As my foot starts sweating, it keeps going forward and it becomes quite uncomfortable, but not with the petals . I love the veil. I was totally the "no veil" kind of girl when this whole planning thing started, but now I love them and I love the look of them on people. I agree with @@calgarybride2015 that I don't think you'd overdo it with the colors if you have the chairs in pink and blue runners on the tables. On the contrary, I think it would look nice and colorful, rather than monochromatic (if you were to have only one or the other). If you were to have the napkins and plates, etc. in different colors, yes, but not the way you're thinking.
  13. that's great! I told them that the package was already late. He seemed to be in rush to get it delivered this weekend but since I called later yesterday his supervisor had left and so he said it wouldn't be delivered this weekend but next week for sure. In terms of the necklace, yeah, i'd rather get the necklace but if it'll come late anyways then at least getting the money back would be nice. We'll see what happens this week, otherwise I'll fight for my money back. I'm hoping with all my might that it gets delivered In terms of the other stuff I feel like I have no power whatsoever because it's up to customs as to how long they want to hold something and Canada Post is not responsible for that, so it's just a waiting game. It might come in next year as far as we all know haha. I've basically come to accept it. Now i'm on the lookout for new bridesmaid gifts. I've just been trying to stay away from the malls haha. This week we paid the wedding! Woo!! That felt pretty nice and one big thing to check off. Now we just have the photographer, but we can pay him when we get there, which is nice. Photographer: Talking about the photographer. Were you guys in contact with him/her before the wedding? I have, but I just don't know what to tell him haha. Are there specifics we should be talking about? I don't know, since I've never even had a photo shoot before Juan really wants some photos at night, he saw some them on some site and he's been obsessing about them haha. We are lucky here because if there is one thing Octavio Montes excels at is night pictures. He always posts beautiful ones on his facebook page and I have to agree, they're stunning. We're thinking of leaving the party for a few minutes before the photog leaves and taking a couple of nighttime pictures. We're also thinking of hiring him for one more hour. It's not a big difference money wise and it would give us a little more breathing room to get all the events we want photographed.
  14. I complained big time today with Canada post and told them that it was ridiculous that I had to go through the Australian postal office for a package that I knew was mine and that was right here in Canada! I checked with the seller and the address was right by the way. They opened up a dispute for me and said that it should arrive within the next week. I told them that it better because I was sick of them losing my packages. Let's hope that it does arrive in the next week, I'm crossing my fingers. I also don't know about the BM gifts since they insist that it's in customs and there is just nothing I can do [emoji20]. As for paypal, it opened up a dispute with the seller, not with Canada post or customs. I know for certain that it's not the seller's fault so I feel pretty bad about it. The seller is on vacation right now but she wrote to me saying that she will try to look into it. However, the good news is that CP hasn't lost everything! Haha. My brochures arrived today. I'm so happy with how they turned out! Also, the rest of my photo booth props arrived. I'm also very happy with them. I paid $3 for them on eBay and they're really good! I haven't assembled them yet because I learned my lesson. I assembled about half of the photo booth signs and now I'm having trouble packing them haha, so I'm bringing my hot glue gun to Mexico to finish putting these together. 15. @@vancouverpetunia I finally called today. Apparently there is a problem with the address and couldn't be delivered. I contacted the seller, they told me that by putting a trace on the package it can be fixed and will be delivered. I just hope that all of this happens on time. Otherwise I don't know, I might just not have a necklace , unless I find something here locally. As to the other package, well, CP says that customs hasn't released it back to them. This is all he said she said. CP is saying that there is a big red warning on it and customs needs to inspect it closer. It's cheap jewelry for crying out loud, I'm not trying to import blood diamonds here. They told me to check the customs website for answers on what I could do but that website is just useless. I'm just hopeless at this point that any of this stuff will make it back to me
  16. That is so adorable that your niece thought it was an Elsa dress, you definitely know you picked the right one
  17. Yes, it's been a process haha. It's still in BC! Work and life has been a little bit crazy the last few days so I haven't had a chance to call Canada Post. I'm so overwhelmed! We're getting legally married on Aug 7, so not yet! Otherwise I would have posted pictures already hahah. I still have to e-mail the person marrying us (I forgot what they're called haha), with our reading and telling her we're just doing the regular old vows. Again, no time for anything!
  18. I'm sorry that you're dealing with the whole guest list drama. I know that there is always something that comes up. I think you made the right choice in both occasions when your parents asked you to add more people. I probably would have caved too haha, but for both my parents . I hope the drama is over for you, for me it was more stressful for people to finish paying than booking, but it doesn't mean that it will always go down that way. My mom, as she saw me stressed when people wouldn't pay/switched rooms, left us with an extra bill, etc. said that I wouldn't have had to deal with this if I had gotten married locally. That was her only shot at me having a DW, but honestly if it wasn't the guests it would have been something else. My one friend got married last weekend here in our city and he still had to deal with some shenanigans from people. Weddings are just a stressful process, not matter what. Just try to roll with the punches and you'll be fine
  19. I'm so happy that things worked out with your flights, and extra time at the final destination is always a bonus! Yay!! the day is getting closer and closer!! I suggest you get your online stuff now. I've been having a ton of issues with Canada Post, and I don't even know if some of the stuff will make it on time, even though i ordered it about 3 months before! Better safe than sorry is my advice
  20. Congratulations! You've come to the right place for information . I hope the planning goes smoothly. What destination are you thinking of?
  21. Ohh, so pretty. I love everything you've done . Good luck with the wedding this week! I hope you have the time of your life!! Please let us know how everything went!
  22. We were able to pack most things into carry ons that we can bring with us on the plane. We were lucky that our family members live in the same city so all of us are bringing one wedding carry on and that takes care of most of the stuff. We've put all the fragile things in there. For everything else that's left we haven't decided yet whether we'll pack another suitcase or whether we'll be dividing the stuff again among our family members to help us carry it all down in their suitcase. It all depends how much is left over. Personally I wouldn't ship anything down there because i've heard it can be somewhat unreliable. I think it would just add to your stress as to whether things get there, etc. Another way around it is trying to source things locally as much as you can, so you don't have so much to bring. Definitely bring your dress on the plane! I'm not sure if that was one of your questions, but I wouldn't trust my precious wedding dress to the people that check the bags...considering the declining state of the bags every time I get them back.
  23. Those dresses are just adorable! I agree that there's so many cute kids' clothes that it can be a little hard to decide. I think those are great and the girls will look lovely I like the color of the middle swatch for the bridesmaid dresses. It's a lot more romantic and it seems to go more with your theme than the other two. Ohhh, if you guys get a private bus to Xcaret directly that sounds like a pretty good deal! Juan and I decided not to book any excursions before we leave. Just getting people booked for their trips was a nightmare and I honestly don't want to deal with that anymore. Once we're there we'll tell people that we are going to do this and whoever wants to join us they can let us know. That's so nice that you guys got to spend some time together. It's nice to take a breather and remember the reason why you're both going through this madness. I think that's a pretty cute idea on your facebook page
  24. Exactly! If only they were a bit more efficient I'm sure they could find a lot of lost money haha. It's really really frustrating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
