  1. Sadly, I feel like I have to agree. I feel like it's half an "honesty" issue and half a "secrecy" issue. There are so many times when there were options, choices, etc that I didn't even know existed until I read them on here. Instead of being up front with things I feel like I have to know what to ask which is really hard. I also feel the same as you- even when I ask a very specific question I don't always get an answer (or I get conflicting answers). Oh well.. I have to say that all in all planning is very fun and I do feel like it will all come together in the end. There are so many brides that have said it does come together and it feels perfect. I really can't wait... June will be here before we know it! Good luck with everything!
  2. I love this look! Honestly, that was another thing my FI did mention- when will we wear linen again? Hmm... decisions.... decisions!
  3. lol that's hilarious! but hey- if you can afford to buy that high end....lol. my FI is not super picky, but we saw pics from one wedding where the men bought from studio suits and my FI said they looked frumpy. Then we saw another wedding where the men also bought from there and he thought they looked great. So far, Studio Suits is looking like our choice bc as long as we order early enough we can find something else if they don't look good. Good luck with your selections!
  4. We are doing the BBQ Deluxe and I have heard it is absolutely delicious! Honestly, I have heard that all the food is great! I'm excited to find out for myself bc the last time I went to an all inclusive resort (RIU Ochos Rios) I wasn't that impressed. Now, I was there for Spring Break lol so I wasn't really too concerned about food. For my wedding, though... I care a bit more.
  5. We are bringing our own. The decor through Lomas is so expensive. It's kind of ridiculous. Plus, I am having fun coming up with it all on my own. Also, I am a planner, so I like to know and see what I have planned. I couldn't just wait til I got there and hope it was what I had envisioned.
  6. Yeah, I just heard back from my DJ and he is bringing an assistant so I will just pay the vendor fee. I'm also just going to keep it simple and pay vendor fee for photographer as well. It's really not that much more money than a 3 night room and this way I don't have to worry about them coming to the hotel to check in at the right time on the right day, etc. (bc check in is kind of late and I don't want to worry about one more thing). I think for me, it's easier to just to the vendor fee.
  7. OOh i see! Yes, I am actually doing the free sweet package as well. I am having the free semi private event at Spoon as my Welcome Dinner. I was under the impression that the free semi-private event had to be at Spoon or maybe one other choice of restaurant. My reception which is at Plaza Zavaz, we are paying for.
  8. My reception is at plaza zavaz but I'm fairly certain that's considered "private." What makes your "semi-private?" I am decorating it, but we are having a DJ. I think a recent bride just had her reception there, though, with the iPod dock only. Check back through the forum bc I know other girls have talked about this recently.
  9. yeah, where are you ladies ordering the men's attire from? we are pretty certain we will order from studiosuits.com bc they are custom suits with great prices and they have linen options. a lot of BDW brides recommend them. im always curious to see what else is available, though!
  10. I love afloral.com and they have a lot of orchids! I bought plum and white orchids from them and was very happy with them. I just got through chatting with a rep from them online. I was concerned about the material of the flower that I want to use for the centerpieces. She said latex, plastic, rubber, and real-touch flowers will all work fine, but the ones I like are a deep color and they are silk so the color might bleed. She said you can simply buy a sealant at your local craft store and seal the flowers before submerging them and they should be fine. Hope this helps! here is a link to the pink orchids through afloral http://www.afloral.com/Silk-Flowers-Artificial-Flowers-Fake-Flowers?search=pink+orchids happy planning!
  11. I'm pretty sure what AllieH says above is correct. I don't want a Catholic ceremony- we are Protestant. I just want to do the legal ceremony but with some mention of God, and a prayer here and there and some other readings, etc, The legal script is awful and very impersonal.
  12. My shell (2nd attempt at the right size) came in the mail yesterday and I want to get the ribbon on today/tonight so pics coming soon!! I'm just so glad this second shell is big enough and exactly what I was looking for. It's so beautiful. My FI said "wow... is it real??" haha I said "Yes!!" and then I was like "....I'm pretty sure..." lol. It's just so smooth and pretty. I didn't go for the pearl colored one though. I got the one with browns in it. Anyway... ya'll will see when I post the pic Happy planning!! What else are you girls working on?
  13. Sorry to hear about your reception dilema... what a bummer! What do they suggest for you in order to have dancing? Certainly other brides have had dancing in the past! I had my first dress fitting, too!! Kind of a bummer, though. It was too big for alterations so they had to send it back and get a size 0. I was really looking forward to seeing it all pinned and "fitting" but now I have to wait for the new dress to come in. Oh well, I'd rather wait and have it fit right!! I was thinking about posting pics in the forum about "you vs the model" but I kind of don't want to show my dress until the wedding. Good luck with the rest of your planning and figuring out your reception.
  14. We think alike... After we bought our airfare in Dec and then made a significant payment towards our room (and got invites out) I felt like I had the leeway (and time and money) to go ahead and start purchasing materials for DIY projects, OOT bag supplies, decorations, etc. We have had a package come to the house almost everyday and it's getting really fun and feeling very real. Even my FI said "Everything is really coming together! We have a lot of the supplies and things now." Currently I am working on some DIY things and also finalizing the ceremony script which is a headache bc we are having a legal ceremony in MX and the legal ceremony script is not supposed to be altered but I have gotten permission to add some things to it, so I'm trying to get that taken care of. Some fun projects I have completed or are almost done: DIY table numbers flower girl basket (a nautilus shell) DIY spanish phrases rack card for OOT bag DIY key/tip holder for OOT bag have purchased all OOT bag contents- even found a cool site where I uploaded my own personalized design for koozies DIY luggage tags DIY bouquets, bouts, corsages DIY reception menus DIY sign for our son to carry down the aisle instead of a ring bearer pillow that says "Daddy, here comes your bride" I'm sure there's more but that's what I can think of right now. Planning to order groom's attire this week/weekend! I'm getting so excited and the wedding is pretty much all I ever think about. I can't wait for our RSVP date (March 15) so that I will have a definite final count even though I do have a pretty good idea. What else are you girls working on??
  15. I have to say, I have also recently been going nuts over the ceremony. We are having a legal ceremony but I am so not ok with the required script for that. Not only does it not include vows of ring exchange but there's no religious part to it whatsoever. Then l saw through the lomas sight that you can have a minister for $500. I'm already paying for the judge... I just want to have a legal ceremony but with a script that is nice- not the awful one they say is required.
  16. Thank you for responding and understanding! You are so right... This is. OUR day. We totally feel that way and have not taken any "declines" or "cancels" personally. Thanks for the positive words! And... Same to you! Just enjoy planning your day and don't worry about your MIL
  17. Ok girls.... I'm sorry I just have to vent for a moment.... Up until today I was under the impression everyone was on board with our DW. Well, my FI family (mainly his mothers side of the family) are canceling left and right and his mother is really taking it personally bc the people canceling are her siblings (my FI's aunts/uncles). So she says to me "I really wish you were just getting married here!" WHAT??? ummm...im sorry.... you're mad at ME that YOUR family is canceling?? the kicker is that NOONE else lives in NC on my side or my FI's side except us and my soon to be inlaws. point being- people would have to travel either way!!! oh that just rubbed me the wrong way and really pissed me off!! anyone out there that can relate??
  18. thank you so much!! i will post mine once i get it and complete the project
  19. We must literally be on the same wavelength bc I just had the SAME thought. I just emailed my DJ and Photographer to ask them what 3 nights the prefer and that's when I thought of it. I'm fairly certain my photographer is coming solo and I'm going to check on my DJ right now. Errr...... wasted money drives me craazzzzzyyy!
  20. Thank you! I just re-read the fine print for the Free Unlimited Private Events and I don't think I qualify but it never hurts to ask. You never know-- maybe they will offer me some other discount vs just saying no. Also, I just emailed my WC and my TA and told them I am going to book a room for mt vendors. Now I just need to email my vendors and let them know the scoop. All of you girls are so helpful! I think this forum is so great. It's so nice to have the advice/tips/comments/ideas of other brides especially when we are planning "in the dark" a little. Sometimes I feel like there are things I wouldn't even know to ask about if it weren't for you ladies. SO thanks, girls!!!
  21. My WC is Erika, too! Hmm... now I feel more confident about trying to switch to 3 night stay for my vendors vs Vendor fee. I would feel more comfortable, too, bc I am doing TTD photos the day after the wedding so the photographer will have to come back.
  22. My shell came in the mail yesterday and I forgot I ordered a cinch shell instead. Lol I have so many wedding plans running though my head I can't even remember what I'm doing. Anyway- I'm so bummed bc even though it said it measured 6 inches (which it does at its absolute longest point) it's way to tiny to use in the way I had imagined. ....back to the drawing board I guess. Maybe I'll look at the seller you used on eBay. How big is your shell?
  23. Ok I saw this recently as well as was wondering if anyone knows anything more about it? That's an awesome deal and I think it's only for new bookings but that sucks! Haha anyone have any further info about it?
  24. I have printed every email for the same reason! I'm so nervous that I'm going to get there and they're going to try to tell me "oh you can't do that or you can't have this". I have all my emails printed and I highlighted the more important things so I can find things quickly bc there are a LOT of emails. Lol
