  1. Great thread! We just got married at Barcelo and both my wedding dress and TTD were made by babyonline too! I'm so jealous that you got to release sky lanterns. My WC told us they no longer allow them and so I brought back 50. Congrats on the baby! So exciting!
  2. Awesome review! Looks like you used a lot of outside vendors. Did you have to pay day passes or fee to have the dj and makeup artist? I know you paid for the generator. Thanks for clarifying that. No daypasses were required for anybody, however, even though I gave my WC the names of every company and the names of the people, my photographer was stalled a little bit while security called to check. Photographer - $300 outside photography fee to Kodak (now $500 I think) Videographer- no fee (they were part of the $300 Kodak fee) DJ - no fee but had to either a)pay $100/hour to Barcelo for electricity or b)rent a generator from the dj for $200 Makeup- no fee charged to me but on the wedding day my WC showed up with a slip to charge 30% of his fee to my room. I had already paid in full on the trial day so Adrian gave me the cash back to cover it. Barcelo takes 30% from whatever he charges to brides because he takes so much business from the hotel. This is fairly new so I'm not sure if Adrian is increasing his prices now I also had to provide dinner for all that stayed through dinner 7in total. 3 videographers 2 photographers and 2 djs. Keep that in mind cause that added a few hundred dollars to our budget line. I just seated them at a table at the back together.
  3. [email protected] he's also on BDW forum here under his name. He always responded within a few days if not quicker and his prices/quality of photos can't be beat.
  4. Yes there are outside photography fees. Some hotels say you have to pay xxx amount or have the photographer stay xxx amount of nights. If you bring your own photographer with you, you should be fine otherwise the amount is $500 now I believe or two nights at the hotel to be considered a guest. You will have to check with your WC to be sure. We used Catamaya as they had the best email (sometimes over a week to respond though). Here is their pricelist. I was able to get them to drop the price to $3600 for steak or lobster and transportation from $10 to $5 for up to 100 people although I think it would be cramped with 80. We went from 3-7. The email was [email protected] they also have a website. From Catamaya: As follows you will find the options we have of a private sunset cruise for a group of 60 to 80 people:  SUNSET Charter with Snacks The standard snacks are: Mexican salsa, tortilla chips and assorted nuts. 5. I used Discomovilcancun and they were almost half the price of the resort. Barcelo charges $100/hour to use their electricity but discomovilcancun charged us a flat fee of $200 to bring in a generator. There was no day pass but you should check with your WC. You never know how quickly their policies change.
  6. Gonzalo is so awesome. Here's one shot that he posted on Facebook from our TTD!
  7. Underwater trash the dress
  8. Check out my very long review here. As part of our package we had the resort photographer for 30 min. He was there for part of our ceremony. We were ten minutes late and he didn't stay. We just bought the cd of pics $150 for 200 pics and I posted some to give you an idea. I dont know how much the resort photographer charges but our outside photographer Gonzalo Nunez was phenomenal! We had him for ten hours on the wedding day and a TTD. You can see just two pics at the bottom of the review http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/barcelo-maya-palace-deluxe-all-inclusive/reviews/5916
  9. Check out my review here. Warning it is verrrrrry long http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/barcelo-maya-palace-deluxe-all-inclusive/reviews/5916
  10. I just got back from my wedding and it was at 100% spring break capacity. We requested a 3rd floor room, in the Michican building with king bed. Out of 80 people we got the closest room right behind the upgraded suites which are the 8000 block. We were second floor 8163. Our guests were pretty spread out though but we were a quick walk to the pool beach and lobby
  11. Have you tried paper-garden.ca or Papercircle.ca? I used Papercircle and customer service was awesome. Samples were $3 for all of them. Papergarden sends you 6 free samples no charge I think
  12. I was able to get rates over a year before. for March 2012 in January 2011 but we weren't able to get exact flight times. They weren't the best rates, but it did give us a ballpark. I agree with Brenners, Lillian is awesome. She usually responds within a few days. The longest I had to wait was a week and she apologized profusely! Her communication isuch better than what a lot of brides complain about on this board.
  13. There was this article saying how everybody is overreacting to all the violence in Mexico. Plus here in Edmonton we are the murder capital of Canada right now. http://www.edmontonjournal.com/touch/story.html?id=6053555
  14. We are using the euphoria package through transat for barcelo maya. The package is $1500 vs $3500 with the resort. But there were some things not included like $20/person over 24 people and then $27.50/person (for everybody not just over 20 people) to have a beach reception. Bit the resort charges $66 extra per person over 15. The reception is only 2 hours vs 3 hours and you pay per person for extra hour and 3 courses vs 4 courses. You get a cocktail hour and the resort package doesn't have that. I used that to substitute an extra hour and course for the reception. Are you confused yet? We ended up saving $2000 but there was a LOT of math to figure out what was included, extra charges and such. You'll have to contact your resorts WC to figure it out for yourself
  15. Do a search on discountmugs here. A lot of brides have used them but keep in mind the shipping costs and duty when it crosses the border.
  16. We have 78 people going and my fiancé decided that a dance floor and slideshow was a must. So I looked into outsourcing a DJ. 4/5 companies I contacted will rent you a generator so it is $200 instead of $95/hour for electricity for our 5 hour reception. It ended up being $1649 for dancefloor and slideshow from the resort or $1800 for outside dj but includes a dj for 5 hours, dance floor, slideshow, generator , balloons, and cold fireworks. We are using discomovilcancun They are a smaller company but have great reviews
  17. OMG that is not right! I've purchased a couple of things on here and always sent payment first and trusted that it would be sent (and always was). This is a supportive community. That person should be banned from participating on these forums!
  18. I have Lillian Vargas. She's been pretty good at correspondence but all the fees get to be a bit much. We figured out that for the price of dancefloor $1209 and slideshow equipment $440 from the hotel, we could hire an outside dj and rent the dancefloor and equipment from them for roughly the same price and that includes 5 hours of dj services! Oh but wait...$95/hour to use the hotel electricity
  19. I know that when we were thinking of staying at tropical, our WC said there would be a charge per person to use the palace beach for the ceremony. Now we are staying at the palace and the only charge for others staying at tropical/beach etc. is $3/ hour at dinner for premium booze for the reception.
  20. I ordered from paper circle. The customer service was awesome and she sent a personalized note which was a nice touch.
