  2. Hi Ladies, I just wanted to pick your brains, i'm getting married in Gran Caribe Real in 2012 i've been checking trip advisor and they have been consistently getting good reviews, however the last couple of weeks the reviews have been saying that a large group of 250 american/canadian 18-22 year olds took over the resort and were basically doing what college kids do...being loud, drunk, obnoxious. Apparantly they were so bad people were demanding to be moved to other resorts. Now this is the same time that i would be out the there getting married in 2012, I don't have a problem with college kids but obviously don't want to have a large group being drunk and loud the week of my wedding. I am just trying to figure out if this was a one off or if college kids regularly flock to cancun in first 2 weeks of July. I am aware of spring break end of March/April and Summer break end of May/June, but was not aware of any big holiday break for canadians/americans in July. Or have I totally got the dates wrong. Please advise
  3. Hi Ladies I always check the reviews for the Gran Caribe on trip advisor, partciularly this month as this is the time of year that we will be out there getting married. Normally the reviews are consistently good, but the last week or so people have complained about a group of 250 college kids turning up for the week and basically taking over the hotel, doing what kids do.....drinking, partying, running up and down the halls, being excessively loud....normally i wouldn't have a problem with this but i don't want it on my wedding week. People had actually requested to be moved from the hotel to one of their sister hotels, because it was that bad. I'm not sure if this is something that happens every year around this time or if it was just a one off. I know spring break is end of March/April and summer break is end of May/June, but i was not aware of huge groups going to Cancun in July. Now I don't know what I should do, stay with the hotel or look for an alternative, which I don't want to do because I want that hotel and I can't change the month because my daughter will be sitting AS Level exams around May/June and I don't want to take her out of college before hand. What would you suggest??

I would imagine that the rainy season in Mexico is similar to this, try not to worry to much hun Vicki xx Hopefully it will be fine, i've had friends that have been to Cancun in June/July and they said that if it did rain it was only a 10 minute downpour and then it was over.

Charmaine...... Yeah i am getting married at the Gran Caribe and they have said white table linen is free however napkins are $1 per person and chair decoration cover & ribbon is $5 per chair, quite steep i think, not sure what table centre pieces are available either. We have had a few hiccups with family because we have chose a DW but we have had to be firm and say its our day and its up to you if you join us, we have found that most have come round as they know we are not going to change our mind, i am sure your MIL will come round to you getting married in Mexico hun. Have you decided on a month to get married Charmaine? We have moved from 2012 now to November 2011. Vicki x Hi Vicki I'm sure the MIL will come around, she'll have no choice because we are not changing our plans for anybody. We originally were getting married in May 2012, but then i remembered my daughter will be sitting AS Level exams sometime in May/June and I won't have the timetable before we book the wedding so I moved the date to July 2012 just to be on the safeside. Although now i'm a bit worried as June/July is said to be the rainy season in Mexico!!!

Lavina - by Maggie Sottero E S T E S - GEMMA Vicki xx Hi Vicki, They are both gorgeous but I absolutely love the Maggie Sottero dress, as most of the other girls have said I am a huge fan of Maggie, my dress is also one of hers. I'm know you'll look beautiful in either one. Char xx
  8. Hi ladies We have finally started to tell family and friends that we are getting married in Mexico 2012. Most people have been really positive, but I told FIs mum the other day on Skype (she lives in St Lucia) and she asked me am i delibrately trying to make it difficult for her to come to our wedding...WTF, i asked her what she meant and she basically said that it would be difficult to fly from St Lucia to Mexico. Now this is the same woman that flies from St Lucia to England at least 3 times a year.....surely it is easier and quicker to fly to Mexico then it is to England. She then went on to ask if we are getting married abroad why not in St Lucia, by the time i finished my Skype talk i felt so deflated. Why are people so difficult grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Michelle & Nicyx.....I am wanting personalised shot glasses to but not yet managed to find them, many places are asking for a high minimum order number and i only want about 20, if you find any let us know, i will do the same. Vicki x Hi Vicki are you getting married at the Gran Caribe?? Do they really want to charge for napkins.....i'm going to have to start factoring all of these little things into my budget.
  10. Hi Michelle Thanks, I know you're right I do need to put us first it is our day after all...just don't like upsetting people and I know my sister is going to feel left out. Anyway so much to cathc up on, how is everything going with you?
  11. Thanks Woodsylou, Congratulations on your wedding.....wow 1 month that is so soon, you must be so excited! mine feels like forever, but i'm sure it will come around quick.
  12. i've also had to change my wedding date to July 2012 as I totally forgot that my daughter will be sitting A Level exams sometime in May or June and the timetable won't be published before we book so thought it best to be safe and book in July. Does anybody know if the weather is really rainy in July??
  13. Hi Ladies, I haven't been on here for a while so have had so much to catch up on. Things have been really bad for me the last month or so, we started looking into having the wedding over here because certain family members said that they couldn't make it...my sister being one of them, she has 4 children aged 7yrs, 3yrs, 1yr and a 3 month old baby, she baiscally told me that she wouldn't be able to come to the wedding which made me cry and so I decided to look into having it in England (even though I didn't want to). I've tried every which way to see if we could afford to have it over here but both FI and my family is so huge it would be impossible to keep within budget. It has really been depressing me and I have been crying non stop for about 1 month now. Yesterday my mum sat me down and said that it is our day and I need to stop trying to please people, if my sister and whoever else can't make it its tough as long as me, FI and my daughter are there who else do we need...so I spoke to FI and he said that he was a bit annoyed with my sister anyway because she didn't even say she would try and see if she could save the money she just outright said no they can't come...anyway to cut a long story short we have decided to stop trying to accommodate everybody else and put ourselves first for a change, so Mexico here we come just got to tell my sister now!!!
  14. Trying to catch up with everything......regarding my wedding dress i've chosen a 'Cassia by Maggie Sottero' Cassia - by Maggie Sottero
  15. Hi everybody, I can't believe i've not been on for a few weeks and missed sooooooooo much.....my exams are over now for a couple of months so i can spend some time on the wedding, although there is not much I can actually do as not getting married until 2012 and that seems like forever!

Great to be back x

Ok....so i went to Thomas Cook who advised they could book the Gran Caribe via Cosmos or First Choice that was until this morning when Cosmos have now pulled all flights to Cancun and there seems to be no insight into if they will be signing them up again the lady in the TA said it could be they have decided to sign contracts with someone else for another destination, so back to booking soley with First Choice as it is cheaper to book direct with First Choice rather than going via Thomas Cook. Regarding the wedding side of things i emailed the hotel direct and a lovely lady called Doreen emailed me back the same day and said she would love to help me with our wedding plans and gave me lots of information price lists etc but 2012 prices are not available yet so been going off 2011 prices as a guide. So as it stands at the moment i will have to stick to booking the holiday with first choice and the wedding direct with the Gran Caribe and for now keep an eye on thomas cook/cosmos. Although i have 2 years nearly to plan my wedding is there anything i should be doing now i feel in limbo, i dont know where to start for making a list and things what i need to get etc. Hi I'm so sorry I haven't got back to you about the Gran Caribe info, I've been revising for exams so have had to try and push the wedding to one side. I also have received loads of information from Doreen, not sure what you have received, but I have pictures of the standard cake, boquet etc if you would like me to send them. I also went to Thomas Cook and they pretty much said the same thing to me as they did to you. I was considering booking the wedding direct with the hotel and then booking the 'holiday' part with the TA, but Thomas Cook said to me that if for any reason something happens that will mean we can't get out there (volcanic ash for instance) then the hotel will not refund you back any money you've paid to the wedding, because as far as they are concerned it is not their problem you can't get there. Whereas if you book with a TA and anything happens you are fully covered. One other thing the TA said was that there have been occasions where people have booked their wedding direct with the hotel and when they got out there dates were changed and guests missed the wedding because they were only over for a week and the date had been changed to the following week. Thomas Cook may have been saying this because they want my money, but it is just something to be aware of. It's great to be back on this site x

  19. Thanks for this it will be very useful, we think we've decided on Gran Caribe, but it will helpful to compare against other resorts.
