Probably not - but you know that yellow immunization record that you used to have to keep track of all your childhood shots? You can probably have them write it on there if you are concerned. Personally, I don't plan on getting sick - or if I do, I plan on lying through my teeth about it when we go!!!

Custom Linen Suits $99!
bholthof replied to FoxyBride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Those of you who have swatches - how does the white color look? I think that having FI in a white suit would look really nice, but there are so many different shades of white, I'd be afraid it would look odd beside my dress - is it a really white white or is it more of an off white? -
To postpone, or not to postpone... Advice please?
bholthof replied to FutureMrsLewis's topic in Just venting or funnies
You know, its really up to you guys... Personally, I think that you have PLENTY of time to plan a wedding for 2011. As a student myself, I feel where you are coming from with the cash-flow problem, but honestly? If you want to get married, you'll make it work. And perhaps you don't have to spend quite so much as you think you will on the wedding. Can you work part-time while in school to help supplement your income? Is there anywhere you can cut spending? And why are you graduating in October? Most school terms end in April, August, and December - so even if your graduation ceremony is in October, wouldn't you have finished school at the end of August? In which case you would have 4 months to save... And where do you think you are going to get a job? Cause if you get a full-time indeterminate or term +6 position with the goverment, you are awarded vacation time in advance for the entire fiscal year - and to start you have approximately a week plus various other vacation days. In which case you would already have the time available - as long as you didn't take other vacation time before the wedding. Also, MOST reasonable employers will let you take time off for your wedding - as long as you let them know when you are hired that that is the plan - I don't know of any employer who would say no. The only thing is that you might have to take it as days of leave without pay. Personally, I gave myself 7 months to plan our wedding. I think that we have plenty of time. And we would have gotten married earlier yet, except we wanted to go at a good time of year, and give people enough time to plan. I didn't want to wait that extra year - so we aren't. And I also think that people who are engaged for longer tend to keep putting off the wedding because they get caught up in thier life together - buying houses, working, etc. I mean, once you're done school you have extra cash around - why not buy a house or upgrade to a better apartment? Financially, even if you hold off for a year, you may still not have extra cash lying around. It might be sunk into other things. Good luck with your decision - I'm sure you'll decide to do whats right for you guys. -
Hourglass sand ceremony?
bholthof replied to Peachy~Girl's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
ooohhhh I really, really want one of those - but they are so expensive!! I don't know if I can justify it ... and after reading what Hoopchic said, idk if I want to order from them... I also really like the sand ceremony frame. Thats neat too. -

I tried on dresses very similar to what I wanted, and if when they looked good I decided to order the dress online - in part because I couldn't find EXCATLY what I wanted in stores, and in part because it was a price too good to beat. If you love a certain style or even a certain dress, see if you can't find it online. And as long as its a close fit, you can always get it altered if its not perfect. Still might be cheaper than buying a dress from a salon that you will have to alter anyway.

The flu mutates so quickly, that the vaccine is probably only protection against the original flu virus - who's to say that it will be 100% effective against a mutated strain?

Got my dress, got my dress!!
bholthof replied to bholthof's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
thanks Between the time I ordered it and sent my measurements, and actually received the dress I think I lost a couple inches round the middle - so its actually a bit big on me. I do have to lace it that tightly so it will fit. I'm checking to see what alterations will cost. If you wanted that V - shape, I'm sure you could request it - or talk to the dressmaker about getting it. -

Stupid question, I know...
bholthof replied to jennaLynn544's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Ask the resort what types of weddings thier minister performs - I think the confusion might be that people who want specific religious ceremonies (ie. Catholic) HAVE to be married in a church. I, for example, am doing a religious ceremony, but my specific denomination doesn't care WHERE you get married, as long as you are being married before God. So check with your resort. But they should be able to accommodate you. -
Paying For Travel Arrangements??
bholthof replied to weddinggirl72's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
A lot of wedding etiquette is simply not practical or doable for anyone who isn't high society, loaded with cash, or not willing to go into massive debt for thier wedding. We're not paying for our attendants to go - but we'll do little extra things for them while away. -
thanks!! Thats great!
-
lol yes - I've heard its a questionaire they have you fill out. I'm not concerned about it - but every time my mother calls she brings it up. I keep telling her I'm NOT rescheduling the wedding!

I do not get vaccines for things like the flu. I will not get the H1N1 vaccine. In the past, the only years I got really sick from the flu were the years when I got a flu shot. In addition, the flu (and probably H1N1) mutates so quickly that by the time they put out a vaccine, its not even the same virus. I personally believe that we are over-vaccinating ourselves and our children, and creating "superbugs" that are immune to our medications and vaccinations. Wasn't there a fuss recently about giving your children medications? Its the same thing. Now, I'm not against vaccines like polio, menengitis, and the like, because those we know are helping, and have been around for a really long time - the long term effects are minimal. And these shots are good for YEARS. But flu vaccines? That you have to get every year because the other one isn't good any more? Why would you want to pump your body full of bacteria and germs? If I could afford it, I would totally look into naturopathic and homeopathic remedies - they seem to have a lot more going for them than contemporary medicine.

Paper insert travel mugs?
bholthof replied to bholthof's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Thanks!! I did see her thread, and if all else fails I might do that - it just seems like an awful lot more work than I want to put into it, lol. Though props to her! Definately post yours when you're done - if its any good at all, I might consider it... -
For those of you who used the travel mugs with the removable paper insert, can you tell me how it held up? Did the cups leak really badly? Did you laminate the paper? Did it still look nice? I'd like to get personalized cups or mugs, but since I only need about 15 - 20, its just not cost effective to get them printed. And I really want our full-colour logo on them, so I was thinking about these paper insert types. But I also don't want them to get destroyed by water or liquid or anything. Plus with these, if people really HATE the design, they can just change it up. Thanks!!

I wouldnt suggest lying to the customs people! Well, since you'd have to take a flight from either Mexico or Canada, and can't make a connector you wouldn't be lying when you say you're coming from Canada or Mexico. Basically, in order for an American to go to Cuba, they would have to cross the border into Canada or Mexico, either by driving or by flying, then take a completely separate flight into Cuba. There is no way for customs to track that.

The best workout DVDs I have ever owned- P90X
bholthof replied to rodent's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
Ok, I need somebody to kick my A$$ into gear and force me to do this! Did it for about a week with FI, and of course with having to go out and Thanksgiving and various things that got in the way, we stopped for a couple days and now its been two weeks since we've done it! I really want FI to do it with me - to help me be accountable for it, but he just got a new landscaping/construction job and works till 6 or 7, then when he comes home he doesn't want to do it!!! (I don't really blame him - he does work hard all day) Anyway, PLEASE help encourage me to do this! My wedding is less than 6 months away, and I REALLY want to shed some extra poundage! thank you. -
Hey ladies, I am going with FI to his family Thanksmas celebration this weekend (Thanksmas = Thanksgiving/Christmas) and I need an amazing dish that can travel cold, doesn't need to be served warm, is healthy, isn't generic like a fruit or veggie platter, and tastes so amazing that everyone will want the recipe and will rave more about it than thier stuipid family chocolate ball recipe... So. Any ideas?? Thanks. Maybe we can keep this thread going to suggest other ideas? With the holidays coming up, I'm sure more of you will have office or family gatherings to bring food to...

We're only staying for one week, but thats because we can only get one week off at that time. We are, however, probably taking a 5 day cruise honeymoon within a couple months after we get back.

So sorry for your loss. I think you should do both - not replace her, she obviously meant a lot to you, so you will still know that it is her place your friend would be filling. But I also think you should put an extra bouquet on the table or something, to signify her presence as well. Yes, it is your wedding - but part of getting married is sharing that with all the people that you care about, and your niece was one of those people. And although she can't be there physically, I'm sure she'll be watching and supporting you from whereever she is now.
