  1. Thanks BarbNHans! I will get in touch with her to price it out a bit more!
  2. KPEG, Yeah I hear ya, about the ticket selling!! But we are just going for it anyway, we have planned for a halloween social oct 2010! lol!! If you have a social we will come! lol!! As for cuba..keep it a second choice!! Then we can share our thoughts on Punta! lol...Just being silly! How many people do think you will have at your wedding? We are thinking anywhere from 10-30? But who knows! people say they want to go now, but its still like a 1.5 years away!
  3. Congrats you guys!! you will be sure to find resort info on DR thread!! There are tonnes of posts there!! Best of luck!!
  4. Hey Melissa!! congrats to another canuck getting married in the DR!! We are from Winnipeg, planning on Punta Cana Feb 2011, so far the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe, or Majestic Elegance...leaning towards the Barcelo Bavero Palace Deluxe though, it has 5 resorts that could also visit, or your guests have an option of staying at a less expensive sister hotel! but we won't know our inal decision until the rates come out in Jan for 2011. Best of luck to you guys!! enjoy your researching!!!
  5. Hey cfraz!! Congrats!! We are looking at the DR...Punta Cana Feb 2011!! We are on the same page as you! We are considering the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe, it has 4 or 5 other hotels your guests can stay at within its chain, and the palace deluxe was recently redone, the rooms look really great! There is a thread startd in the DR under Barcelo Bavaro..check it out!!! The wedding package there seemed to offer a lot for your buck compared to other resorts...but surf around..this site totally helps!! Keep me posted on what you decide on!! ttyl!!
  6. Hey Candice!!! Congrats to you guys!! This site is addicting , I am fairly new myself, you will certaily be able to find info on the destination you are looking for!! Best of luck!!

We were thinking of having a social but after thinking about it, it sounds like a lot of extra work and expenses that we were trying to avoid. Maybe it's because we'd be doing it all ourselves (trying to sell tickets to the few people we know, getting prizes and food together, etc). We are not planning on having a wedding party, just the two of us and our immediate families. But yes, having a social is ideal for a DW too! Afterall it's still fundraising for the wedding! All the best, congrats again and keep me posted! KPEG, We are not really having a wedding party either, a maid of honor and best man, as for planning a social, pm your email and I will send you a break down of a to do list for it, I was the maid if honor at my bf's wedding this summer, and did the whole social planning thing, its really not that difficult, you just have to be organized, and have some friends that are willing to help you out, taking a shift at the door, selling booze, prize tix.... If you don't know a lot of people you may want to consider doing a social around a theme to draw crowds!...like St patty's day...halloween...etc..more people go to those types of socials!!...Sending out an invite through Facebook should help as well! For prizes,..I can also email you a template for printing out letters to hand out to companies requesting donations, etc, it is a bit work, but if you are determined you can do it!!! I just thought I would through it out there!! In case you change your mind on having a social!! What resorts are you considering for Punta? Another option that may be more cost effective would be the Mayan Riviera in Mexico..Playa Del Carmen? We were considering that one, but Kraig had already been there, so we decided to go somewhere neither of us had been! Do keep me posted on what you decide!! Its so nice to have someone from the same city planning a DW in the same destination that you are!! lol What area of the city are you in if you dont mind me asking? We are in South St Vital!
  8. Barb, Thanks for the info!! We really appreciate it. We were considering the Majestic Elegance, but are now leaning more towards the Barcelo Bavaro as there package was a little more invloved, but I am really getting intrigued by the Jellyfish! We were also tossing the option of renting that cruise type boat ( I have read on one of the threads on here) to have our reception on, we thought it would be a nice treat for our guests as well. I guess we still have some thinking to do! Options are good though! Do you have an email for Mayte by chance? Thanks again!!
  9. Hi Erin!! We are from Winnipeg, and thinking of going to Punta Feb 2011, we originally thought of going in April as it is a little less expensive, however the charters only run until end of March, so you will have to add the cost of a flight to major gateway city, T.O or Vancouver ( if you are from canada) you may not be saving that much in the end...you just have to do your research. so for now we are planning for Feb 2011, probably Barcelo Bavero Palace Deluxe, as your guests can opt to stay at one of the other Barcelo resorts that is within their price range, and we will be in the nice resort with a jacuzzi on our patio! lol Keep me posted on what you decide!! Thanks and Congrats!

I PM'd you with a request of any package pricing you can send for the Barcelo Palace Deluxe! Glad to hear you chosde this location, my fiance and I are seriously considering it, but are finding it hard to find a lot of feedback on it! Thanks and Congrats

There is no comparison between getting married at a resort where you are just a number and you get married in front of a couple of thousand total strangers, eating the same grub at the same restaurant that you've gone to all week. At the Jellyfish, we paid the same OR possibly less than we would have had we got married at the resort, but we got so much more! It is very romantic and intimate there. Though all beaches are public, there was hardly anyone there; be forewarned though that alot of the boat excursions are close by and can be quite noisy (it didn't bother us though in the least -- half way through our ceremony, we were entertained by the macarena). We had the upstairs to ourselves and it was arranged for a long table for the 8 of us and then large white pillows and sofa's around the perimeter for everyone to lounge - and after a large, incredibly delicious, exquisitely presented meal, lounge everyone did! Mayte is fabulous with an incredible eye for detail. I pride myself in being the "party planner extraordinaire" back here in BC so I brought decorations and was going to put it all together myself. I'm so glad that I did not have to as Mayte had it all done and it looked far better than I had imagined it would. She used my things but integrated some of her own and it was beyond beautiful. It made us all cry when we walked up the stairs! I just wish I hadn't wasted so much time worrying about it for the last 6 months. For whoever decides to go to the Jellyfish, RELAX because Mayte is amazing and really, REALLY, cares about your wedding. She arranged everything from the pastor to the flowers. (when the bouquet that I had ordered arrived, it was wilted so Mayte sent it back, bought flowers and put together a bouquet just moments before I arrived and they were great! How cool is she?) Back to the food. We ordered a small caprese salad for everyone to start, we ordered 2 of the seafood grill which are huge platters of seafood with lobster, langoustines, conch, calamari, sea bass and red snapper (we could have easily stopped eating at this point), and then everyone chose between the filet mignon, seabass in passionfruit and ginger sauce, or seafood pasta. Everything was so beautifully presented, and it was so delicious that we knew we were going to have a hard time going back to eat at the Majestic Colonial. After dinner everyone lounged around, had coffee and then we had the cake. None of us wanted to leave! Also, everyone said that it was the best wedding that they had ever been to and they were so grateful that we did our research. Here's the link to some photos. I tried to pick ones to showcase the Jellyfish. Some of them are not very good quality -- those would be the ones I took. The rest are done by Photosouvenirs whom I highly recommend. Our Wedding pictures by BarbNHans - Photobucket BarbNHans! Your pics are beautiful!! I have read quite a bit about the Jellyfish rest, and wanted to go there for dinner, but after seeing the pics of your wedding there, I am now considering this as an option for our wedding!!! We are not planning to go until Feb 2011, and really do not know what our quest list will look like until we get actual pricing and select our resort, we are deciding between the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe or Majestic Elegance, but we like the stay and play option of 5 other reorts if we go with the Barcelo Palace Deluxe.....Ahh decisions!! Do you know what the min-max number of quests they will accomodate? We are looking at anywhere from 10-30 guests. Do you have any pricing info for planning a wedding and reception at the Jellyfish that you could pass along? Thanks and Congrats!!!
  12. Hey KPEG!!! Well it is actually official, we are now engaged!! He proposed a week ago, after the bomber game!! Now this planning is official!! However I really wont be able to narrow my choice until the pricing comes out in January. We wanted to keep our pricing to under 2 grand for one week if possible. What Kraig actually suggested...and any of the winnipeg brides will understand this....we are going to have a wedding social, and whatever money is left over from our costs of putting on the social will go towards our family and closests friends costs to attend our destination wedding. So that should hopefully help them out!! We have contacted Melissa at Sell of Vacations on St. Annes, spoke with her once, and she seemed very knowledgeable (sp) ,and very accomodating and friendly, we plan to work with her once the rates come out in Jan 2010. So I would recommend speaking with her, but only her...lol the other girls there were not as friendly! lol!! You can mention we are the couple with the little pom puppy that visited her!! lol...keep me posted on what you guys decide!!

It is basically just a nice oceanview restaurant that has great food, drinks, and the last two times I have been there everyone has always had a great time. Last month a group I was with did their rehearsal dinner there with about 20 people and they rented out the top. They brought in a DJ, and we all had the most amazing time. I will upload a gallery of both the boat, and the Jellyfish for you. I'm replying to your email right now. Aww too bad, we are thinking we will have around 10-15, but who knows, we haven't even begun that planning, we could be surprised and end up with more, the boat idea sounds like a lot of fun.....although how about those with "sensitive" tummy's, do people get sea sick on these boats?

My Mom recently passed away and my Dad passed away years ago so we thought it would be fun to plan a destination wedding and marry on the beach of Punta Cana. Yesterday, we went to a wedding planner and decided on Grand Palladium. Now I am making the decision to either go with turquoise/oasis blue for the bridal party or watermelon. I noticed that the flowers for the Grand Palladium decor are usually fuchsia so I think the watermelon dresses will really pop. Any opinions on this? Congrats and welcome!!! We are also planing for punta cana...feb 2011 though!..lol sorry to hear about your parents, a beach wedding would be a great alternative, ...but I guess I am a little bias!! lol I would think watermelon dresses would look nice!! I love pink!! You got my vote!!

You are quite the jet setter!! do you have dual citizenship in Punta yet!? lol, you seem to be there everyother week! Good for you!! We are in the very pre lim stages of planning, do you know anything about the Barcelo Bavaro Palace deluxe? That was also a resort we are considering...

Have you thought of any resorts yet, or a date? Congrats by the way!!!

He knows the Majestic well, and with go WAY beyond the norm for you. Hey Josh!! I actually live in Winnipeg, not far from LaSalle! My boyfriend and I are seriously considering Majestic Elegance, Feb 2011....we are way ahead of the game here...not even engaged yet...but we know what we want to do, so we might as start planning, we contacted the local sell off vacations, they sound like they can get decent group rates, but you mentioned your buddy Adam knows alot about thr Majestics? Would it be in our interest to speak with him to coordinate our package details?

If you go back a few pages in the thread you will see a pic that Josh posted of the beach wedding location. We did really like the beach location. The gazebo looks like it would be beautiful too. The disco opens at 11. We had our reception dinner at the Steak house. It was awsome!! I highly reccomend it. They did a beautiful job of decorating the table and you are in a room seperate from the others in the restaurant (although you are still very close). No need to bring extra decorations I think. Again I can email you some pictures if you send my your email address. I would look into other florists. I didn't but I kind of wish I had (although I was very happy with my bouquet). I had just had my heart set on certain flowers. Do you have specific flowers in mind that your dying to have? If you are not too fussy then I wouldn't worry about it. The flowers they do are fantastic! I brought over fake flowers for my bridesmaids and the groomsmen bootineers and it worked out great. You may want to look into that too. It was MUCH cheaper than the Majestic prices. I hope that helps! Jodie Hi Kat!! Congrats on your recent wedding!!! My boyfriend and I (not engaged just yet, lol) are considering the Elegance, if you have any pricing info on their packages that you could send that would be great! Any photos of the resort and beach would be helpful as well! my email is [email protected] How long did you guys stay there? We are looking at going for 2 weeks, and having our guests stay the first week, get married that week, say good bye to everyone and then have our honeymoon the second week. Did you think the Elegance was a nicer looking resort than the Colonial? what did you think of the on-site photographer? Or did you bring your own? Did you plan a lot of activities while your guests were there? I'm wondering how to coordinate all of that, I want to be sure everyone has a good time, and I feel like we woul be responsible to ensure that happens...any feedback you have would be reatly appreciated!!

Were you able to obtain any package info for the Majestic Elegance? Also, do you know if you can stay at the Elegance and still use the failities at the Colonial, like the pools restaurants, some resorts offer a "stay and play option", Ican't seem to find this info on their site.
