  1. I am still fairly newbish when it comes to figuring out good key words to search for, so I didn't find any threads about this yet. I am in a slightly different position than many of you may be as I'm being married as a landlubber but doing a cruise to celebrate ... sorta like a family/friend vacation the day after the wedding so people have more reason to come to TX for the wedding. As such, I will be needing to transport for whichever friends/family members decide to go. I was thinking about getting a charter bus depending on how many people there were. Has anyone done something like this? Are there more things I need to consider that I'm not just yet? I figure the morning after the wedding, we can all gather at one of the hotels and hop the bus down to Galveston... and on the way back, the bus can drop us off somewhere. Maybe we should arrange it from the Austin Airport? Anyone have insights or experience with a situation similar to this? Any thoughts are appreciated, thank you.
  2. I agree with everyone else, they look fantastic and super professional! I love this! Now I wish I had taken my FI up on his offer to buy me a new macbook lol..
  3. I am surprised nobody has posted here with any suggestions... so I did a quick search on Google and came up with this youtube video on how to tie them into a tripod structure. YouTube - How to Lash a Bamboo Tripod As far as the bamboo goes, maybe you can find a vendor there that sells lengthy pieces of bamboo instead of trying to transport them with you. If needed, maybe you could get a courier to bring them to the hotel for you if you can't pick them up because of time constraints? As far as securing them so they don't knock over, maybe weight applied to the center of the structure, where the flowers are.. potted flowers? Flowers in a bucket of water suspended from the string holding the bamboo together? How to make a bamboo wedding arbor? - Bamboo Forums This thread briefly talks about construction (VERY brief) Bamboo Arts and Craft Network The root of the above post, you can probably troll forums until you find something truly useful (I hope!) Key words I used to search were bamboo wedding trellis tripod arbor and any combination of those words. My other suggestion is that perhaps there is another location on the island that rents them for much cheaper? I'm sure to make one will cost less than $300, but the hassle itself may not be worth your time. At any rate, hope this helps a little, and best of luck ^^
  4. What a great diy idea! I'm glad its working out so far, keep us updated with your progress please!
  5. That dress is phenominal and you look like a Greek goddess! Wish I could pull a dress like that off! It looks great on you, congratulations! Can I ask, are the shoulders beaded as well?
  6. I'm going to echo what everyone else said here. If you love it, it's your day, you should wear what you feel beautiful in. I think your mom/friends are just concerned about you going in the sand with it, that would be my only concern. The dress is absolutely stunning, however, and I'd wear it in the sand, in the sea, skydiving, rock climbing, shoe shopping... lol anywhere you feel like it!
  7. Wow those are very nice ^^ May I ask how you aligned the letters? They look so perfect!
  8. Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions, I'm about halfway through all the post now and still learning a lot!
  9. Phenoooominal, you did a fabulous job and gave me a great idea! Hope you don't mind if I borrow it XD
  10. I don't have much experience using word to make logos or anything aside from text documents. If you want a good quality image, it should probably be made in an actual image editor. Something like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop... if you knew someone that was good with illustrator, they could probably take the image you created and use it as a template to create a vector, scaleable image. I hope that someone on the boards has a really helpful suggestion for how you can re-create in a better program. It seems like a lot of people here are using power point if thats an option for you? If you don't have it on your home computer, perhaps you are able to use it on a local library computer?
  11. I'm not sure how artistically inclined you are, but what seems to work are programs like Photoshop. Of course, if you're like 99% of us out there, you don't have the kind of money for Photoshop in which case may I recommend a free program called GIMP... I just recently started using it, and it is comparable to the Student edition of Photoshop that I have (although that version is from 2003). The learning curve on graphics editing programs can be pretty steep, but usually if you google the program name and "tutorials" you might be able to find good ways to utilize the programs! After you get a graphics editor program, whichever it may be, you'll want to look for some downloadable brushes, which act like stamps for your pictures. So if you got a copy of Gimp, do a google search for Gimp Brushes, and hopefully that will help you out! Other key words to try aside from scroll might be swirl, or flourish. I hope this is what you were asking for.
  12. Thanks for the quick response Andrea. I guess my problem is that since we're still in the beginning of the planning phase, I don't know how many people are interested in attending or not, attending just the wedding, or attending the wedding AND the cruise. Do I need that information first before I contact an agent to book rooms? Thats sorta what your post seemed to say. May I ask which travel agency you used since they allowed you to spread out payments? I'm not sure if that is a common practice but would be super helpful. The prices for the cruise we're looking at seem to be truly reasonable for 5 day cruise so I think overall, it's affordable, but all this is a little overwhelming just yet. I am going to look at your planning thread and maybe if anyone else has some information regarding how they proceeded, I'd appreciate it. =)
  13. Many moons ago (actually, about 3 months ago maybe) I found these boards because I was trying to decide if I wanted to be a cruise bride or not. Thanks to the help and insight of those at these boards, I decided that getting married while ON a cruise wasn't exactly what I wanted to do. However, I've decided to try and co-ordinate a post-wedding cruise. Basically, since most of our family has to travel from out of town, I am trying to give everyone an extra excuse to travel to Texas, since we can get to Galveston and cruise from there. Out of town and destination weddings have a different time frame than others. We will not be married until 10/10/10, We figured that should give plenty of planning time for family and friends that would like to attend. However, can anyone give me suggestions or examples of your schedules for sending STD, Invites, getting final counts, etc? When do deposits typically need to be made for group cruises? Thanks for the help! edit: I think what I am really looking for is what worked for the brides that have already been through this. I am petrified that I won't be giving enough time to everyone or that there are things I need to take into consideration that I haven't already. Many brides are doing OOT bags, but since most of my guests will be attending the wedding shoreside, and I'm not certain how many will go on the cruise after, should I consider making them too? I'm so confused...
  14. Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion! That does open up different opportunities =D
  15. I was expecting about 30 people at very maximum, more likely 20, and i was hoping to find deals like those that have been posted on the larger commercial cruises. I don't know about having a smaller ship. I'm sure it would frighten me and/or make me sea-sick lol... that, and i'm trying to include my nieces and nephews in the 'festivities' so i was looking for something through someone like Carnival. I'm prolly stuck, huh lol..
  16. I have been trying to do a lot of research on cruises, and was hoping any of you fine folks would be able to point me in the direction of a sailing that will port for an evening while out at sea. I want to hold a small ceremony with family and a couple of close friends, but i don't want to be married ON the ship itself. I would love to have a wedding on an island and enjoy the afternoon into the evening without feeling rushed to get back onto the ship. Can you all help me?

We plan on marrying late in 2010, and we're hoping to have a cruise wedding! I'm not sure of the details yet, I'm looking for some help-- so i look forward to getting to know you all and wish you the best in your planning!
