I was at a wedding there last November and it was beautiful. The resort is stunning and everything from the food to the staff were top notch. I am gonna play devils advocate and suggest that maybe it would help bring your family closer and help them get to know you and your family better if they went? Do you think if you (or your hubby) talked to your BIL and told him how you and the family felt during the last trip that maybe we would wake up and smarten up for your wedding? I dunno - for us it's the more the merrier. But on the flip side, if there was someone wanting to go (and who wasn't actually invited) that we knew would just cause problems for us or any of our INVITED guests, than I would 100% not want them to go. Sorry to hear you're going through some stressful family stuff...it always sucks! Good luck and I am sure everything will work out for you. On a better note - we're date twins!! Here is the info Joyma has emailed me...I also asked her what size/shape table they have because we are going to be bringing down some of our own decorations and she said they have round tables that seat 8, and square tables that seat 4 (so I would imagine you put those together). We have Free Wedding. This package only applies for wedding with 17-pax minimum for 6 nights or 8-pax for minimum 12 nights. The Luxury wedding in Melia price 1250.00 CUC and the Glamorous wedding in Meliá price 940.00 CUC. If you have more than 17 people for 6 night you apply for the Free wedding package. For the dinner reception: If you have more that 22 guest I could give you a free dinner reception with red wine, rose wine, white wine, water, beer and sodas, if not you can see the extra services: Has dinner private style to the Carte--------------------------------------------------------- 35.00 CUC (it includes open bar 2 hours, with drinks and Cuban cocktails) (50 % discount for children) (when it is mounted in areas outside of restaurants) We a gazebo for weddings, but not is by the water, it is near to the water, have ocean view, it is nice. The guest are outside to the gazebo, just in front to it, not inside, the gazebo is for the couple, not for everybody. I can hear the Cuban accent in her writing! I love it and can't wait to be there drinking Mohitoes! Now I will try the pictures...

Thanks Krista! We are sllooowly narrowing it down. This one and the new Iberostar are the last two to choose from. Have you been dealing with the wedding coordinator there? She is really nice and returns any emails I have with in a day or two...let me know if you want me to send you the pics/info that she has sent me.

Ashey, would you mine sending me Melissa's email as well. We are actually looking at the Melia Varadero (right beside the Las Amaricas), and the WC has sent me a few pics but isn't able to send a lot because she said her email isn't that big. Thanks!

Thanks Paulsgirl...I am gonna give her a call as well. I am using a TA now who is a family friend so I do feel kind of like I'm 'cheating' but like you said it is about getting the best rate.

Oh I feel so bad for you! Don't worry though Cuba is amazing..you and your guests will love it. I agree with Julie...Varadero is probably your best options for flights and it is a more touristy part of Cuba so I think it would be better if you are traveling with a larger group. As for adults only, the Melia Las Americas has recently become an adults only resort...we were originally looking at that one because it is beautiful and the reviews are good, but there are friends and family that may want to bring their kids so it was a no-go for us. It is connected with two other resorts - the Melia Varadero (which is now in our final two choice) and another branch that I can't remember the name of. But if you book at one you 'play at three' so that's always a nice thing. I was at the Iberostar Varadero last November and it really is an amazing hotel - from the food to the staff, it's great...the wedding gazebo could have used an update, and it was sort of in an awkward location (around a lot of bushes and branches), but the pics still turned out beautifully. I noticed there were a lot of families there though so you may not prefer that. Good luck and keep us posted!

Yay I am so happy to have found this thread! I am May 18th 2010 in Varadero Cuba - still torn between two resorts. This site has been so amazing so far, and I am sure this thread will help even more! I have been working on our STD's for the past two weeks, and last night my FI and I realized that they will say exactly the same thing as our invites would. So now we are just going to go with invites only, and maybe do a postcard to remind guests when it gets a little closer. It is so exciting to get started on things, but holy cow is time flying by!
