  1. The thread about father daughter songs got me to thinking. Just a thought, but would it be strange if I picked a song not because of the lyrics, but because it reminds me of my dad? Everytime I hear "Hotel California" I instantly think of my dad driving me around in his bug around town when I was a kid. I looked up the lyrics, although it doesn't have a happy "father-daughter" theme to it, it doesn't have gross lyrics or anything. Do you think this would be appropriate? I wasn't even going to have the father daughter dance, but my dad recently suffered a serious heart attack, and now I feel it's important to do it. We really didn't have any special songs growing up. I'd like to dance to something meaningful, and I think he would laugh if he heard this song played while we danced. What do you think?
  2. Sending my happy planning vibes our way!!
  3. Hi Cruisebride & Welcome! I too am having a cruise wedding, we are getting married on board the ship before we leave port going to Mexico. Congrats and good luck with you planning, these boards have a wealth of information to offer! And the brides are fantastic! Good luck & happy planning!
  4. I am also an unfortunate David's Bridal bride out there. First, they didn't even know what a birdcage veil was, after I told them to stop putting tiaras on me, I already had a veil. Then they charged me $1 for a color swatch. Are you serious? Not to mention I've had vendors bugging me on my cell phone, after I checked the "Do not Contact Me" box when I filled out the information sheet. Then, they order one of my bridesmaids dresses in the wrong size. Then proceed to tell me that they almost couldn't order it, since it was being discontinued. Not to mention the bridesmaids shoes I had to run all over town for, since they had also been discontinued as well, even after I specifically asked them if they would be discontinued. They really are the Wal-mart of bridal salons, that's for sure. And they never prove me wrong everytime I walk in there. The list goes on and on- I feel your pain.
  5. I am one of the unfortunate David's Bridal brides out there. But I knew going in what NOT to expect- good service, knowledge, etc. They really are the Wal-Mart of the bridal stores, that's for sure. With that, I've heard nothing but super rave reviews for La Soie. A good source for recommendations is Yelp. They have tons of resources for you! Hope this helps and good luck!
  6. Jaime + Brandon- I just saw your post! Yes, I live in LB- we are getting married aboard the Splendor before it leaves port. We have already cruise on her, she's beautiful! If you have any questions, let me know!! We should get together for a brides happy hour if you're in the neighborhood- I'm in downtown!

    Newbie!

Congrats and happy planning to you!
  9. Love this thread! Another great idea for saving $$$ is if you need something, but need to place a larger order than you need- go in with other brides! I did this with my travel mugs (I needed to order a minimum of 44 (only needed 25), so before ordering, I posted a message seeing if any other brides wanted to go in with me. I was lucky to find another DW bride that was interested, and managed to get what we were both looking for and we split the shipping!
  10. So the Budget Bride thread got me to thinking about all the ways we can save money, but what was your best money saving moment so far? I'm going to have to say that my shining moment was selling some leftover OOT bag items & envelopes and buying my shower dress on ebay with my earnings! I bought a White House Black Market Dress I've had my eye on since last fall for 80% off what it was going for originally, new with tags! YES!!!! What's your best money saving moment so far in your planning?
  11. Was looking at some CL posts & found this... Beach Themed Wedding- Leftovers Don't know how many you need though.
  12. So Cute! I'm doing sauce for my favors too, I'm just trying to figure out the logistics of how I'm going to get 50 bottles on the ship!! We're doing Pickapeppa, our favorite. I'm going to tie on really cute cruise ship tags I found on ebay to them. My sister made me feel like crap when I mentioned what I wanted to give as favors. She was all, "I've never been given SAUCE at a wedding." Whatever pooper. Well you're getting some at mine!
  13. Damn dude, down to the .25 even? Super Tack Master if you ask me. That's crazy. But at least it's good fodder for years to come. But I'd have to say no to the janitorial duties. That's just crazy. Good lesson for how NOT to treat the BM's. Damn. And I felt bad for asking them to buy certain shoes.
  14. Thanks for this great list- I am definitely taking some notes. Also for things to pack- larger zip lock bags for bottles in case they spill (and for wet stuff) & extra grocery bags (for dirty stuff). I also make sure to pack a travel alarm clock, just in case.
  15. How about a comb? That's what I'm going to glue on the back of my hair piece. That way it's close to the head and it will stay in! Hope this helps!
  16. Sorry blana, I just saw your post- I didn't have any pictures, maybe Bermuda will sell them to you when she's done with them!
  17. Hi Ladies! We'll be getting married then cruising on Carnival Splendor to the Mexican Riviera. It wasn't our first choice (Carib) but we knew we would have to adjust our wants for our guests, since it was important for us to have our friends and family there with us. I have amassed quite a wealth of info since our engagement (2 years!). Good Luck and happy planning to you all!
  18. Update: Sunscreen Towels have been sold! Also, I will consider all offers for the hair flowers!
  19. Hi Girls, I have a couple extras I would like to sell before the wedding. I have a set (2 flowers) of the Davids Bridal Swarovski crystal & satin flowers- Style 7369. They are handmade & light ivory, but would also go well with a white dress. I've decided to go with another hair accessory. I'm asking $30, shipping extra. They are originally $49 at Davids. I also have 40 of the large sunscreen towelettes- SPF 30. Perfect for travel (weight) and no spills. I'm asking $20 plus shipping for these. PM me or you can email me at hollie gmf at yahoo.com if any questions. Thanks!
  20. We decided to throw one for ourselves too, for two reasons: 1.- Our family had never really met before, so we wanted to get everyone together for that, and 2.- Our engagement was two years long, so we thought it would be cool for all of our friends and fam to get together and meet BEFORE the wedding. It was very casual- we hired a taco truck guy to come to my moms, and throughout the party I pulled names out of a hat & gave away prizes. It was definitely a hit! We also provided all the alcohol- we ordered a couple kegs from a friend that works at a brewery, and stocked up on wine at Trader Joes. (No hard liquor). It wasn't too expensive, and it got everyone excited about our wedding cruise!
  21. Thanks for posting pictures BB2B! I LOVE your cymbidium orchids- they are going to be in my bouquet too! You all look so happy!
  22. Thanks ladies for all your words of encouragement. I asked my future sister in law about the things she regretted on her wedding day, and she said she wished she could have included her mom more. So I thought this would be perfect! I just hope the aisle is wide enough, since we're getting married in the lounge on a cruise ship! Thanks ladies, I'm doing it!
  23. Hello Ladies! I wanted to include my mom in the ceremony by having her walk down the aisle with me AND my dad. Is this weird? I know this is a Jewish tradition, (I'm not Jewish) but I feel it's appropriate, since my mom and I are so close. Would you think this was weird if you saw this? Thoughts? Thanks ladies!
  24. I just wanted to inform you all about some info I received from our baggage handler a couple weeks ago. While we were checking our bags in, our handler told us to make sure to put on your tags the following information ONLY: Your Name Sail Date Cabin Number Ship Name Apparently some of the shadier handlers will use information on your luggage tags such as your address and phone number to rob you while you are on vacation! He said there was a poor old lady that would come to the port every Sunday to protest, because Carnival said they were not responsible, and they cleaned her out! Just wanted to pass this information on, because it's so important! Needless to say, we spent an extra 10 minutes making sure we took off all of this info from our bags. If this helps one person, then I feel a lot better!
