Wedding Suit HELP!!!
JoLo908 replied to boston_012's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
You can most likely rent the suit before hand and then bring it with you right?? Or would the rental places at home charge a lot for having it for a while?? I guess I have to find this out for FI... -
Favors or OOT bags for 50+people
JoLo908 replied to JoLo908's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Haha... do ittt! As I was looking at the websites you posted, I began to realize that I would have to tote everything down there. I don't trust shipping things, you can never trust what will happen to your stuff, I have experienced that before. So, I am thinking that will be a cute idea, since I think it will be more authentic to give people something from down there... OMG, and I just realized, we are getting married like a month before you... so, we will most likely go in to Playa Del Carmen to go shopping... I can let you know some good stores and the price of some of the things so then you will have an idea... or anything else!! -
I am going to get the chair sashes... that is such a good price!!

Favors or OOT bags for 50+people
JoLo908 replied to JoLo908's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Do you think maybe we should buy a favor when we are down there?? (i.e. maracas or something?) and then put a ribbon and tag on it with our names and the date?? -
We are having about 50 people at our wedding in Riviera Maya, maybe even a few more... We were not expecting this many people to come, but we are reallly excited that we got such a huge turnout!!! Anyway, originally, we were going to make OOT bags, but I fear that with 50-60 people, we do not have enough money to do that. And plus, how the heck would i give everything to everyone Does anyone have any ideas of a nice, cool, or unique affordable favor to give to our guests... I think it might be tacky to not give anything... Any ideas??

I LOVE the Cape.. My MOH has a cottage up in Truro, and before the whole destination wedding, I always wanted to get married there. On Corn Hill, there is a deck that looks out over the sunset (it is basically on a cliff over the bay) and it is amazing.. I think that is a great idea!!! I reccomend Truro!!

I heard great things about the reefs from a friend...

Liberty Travel is doing our honeymoon registry... Basically, people buy you things toward your trip like "Lobster dinner for two" or "massage"... and then when all is said and done, you close out the account and LT cuts you a check for the amount that people contributed toward it. My TA said a ton of people do it, and it helps offset the cost of the wedding! What do you think??

is anyone not having an AHR???
JoLo908 replied to mandalaybay3071's topic in At Home Reception (AHR)
We're not having one either... A friend of the family did it after their wedding in DR and they said they wished they didn't because it was an extra $5000... I think the idea of a bbq is fun... definitely! -
Congrats!! You're in my neck of the woods! Good luck with your planning!

I know it's been said before, but definitely Sears!!! They have great deals for luggage sets... and don't get anything too "nice" or epensive... my friend had an expensive suitcase and it ended up getting destroyed on our flight to FL... Sears!!

Comfort of Halter dress?!?
JoLo908 replied to BVIBride09's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I think it depends on your chest size... I am a DDD and sometimes if I wear a halter dress ( I just wore one to a wedding in the summer) my neck hurts a little at the end of the night... nothing horrible mind you... But even if you are like a C or D, it shouldn't be bad... my boobs are too big, and if I can deal with it ( I can be a whiner wink wink) you totally can! -
Congrats!!! You have to check out the thread for the GBP!!! There is lots of info!

My friends and I also met Paige Davis from trading spaces, Ryan Seacrest when I tried out for AI, a bunch of the MTV people just from being in the city, and Michael Stipe from REM,,, (he was the douche bag, not so friendly)

I have met a few famous people... My opinion is a lot of them were douche bags, but some were really cool... Molly Shannon from SNL was SO sweet... but funny story... I told off the lead singer of Maroon 5 on my 21st bday... They were playing at my college stadium the following night, and they were at the bar for karaoke that we went to... needless to say I was downing LITs all night, and we were hanging out with their crew, and I walked up to the guy Adam and was like "It's my birthday! It's my birthday!" and he was really snotty and standoffish to everyone so I yelled at him..."Well, guess what? I bought U2 tickets at MSG instead of your concert cause their a lot cooler than you, Bono's the sh%&!" My friends were ready to die... and the rest of the band was cracking up... The other part that made the night was that I sang karaoke and the band members, sans Adam, really loved it!!! It made my night... I swear it was the alcohol talking.... but he is no Bono lolol

Dreams Tulum/ Barcelo Mayan Review, PIC OVERLOAD!!!
JoLo908 replied to dreamstbride's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
So beautiful!!! What a lovely wedding, despite the mishaps! -
When my uncle passed away a few years ago, my mother was left some money from his life insurance. Being the awesome mom that she is, she divided the money up three ways and she has 1/3, my brother has 1/3, and I have 1/3... My brother used the money to help with the down payment of his house, and my mom used the money to help renovate her kitchen (God Bless her, she went to visit me bed ridden Uncle everyday after work at the hospital for over three years, and he was not very kind to her at all, but she has a big heart.) I am using the money to have our wedding ( my mom suggested I should use it for a wedding or a odwn payment on a house, and i couldn't resist actually being able to have a nice wedding.) We are not breaking the bank either compared to the usual weddings we attend here in NJ. I may have some money left over, which will help to cover the costs of Grad school, but if not, grad school costs $20,000 for the full two years. I already have almost $14000 in loans for my undergrad, is it bad to take out more in loans for my grad degree? I will be working too while in school, so i can pay some through that... But is it bad to come out of grad school with nearly 30k in student loans? I am just confused... I don't want to make bad financial decisions...

We are having a huge number of people... (about 50 people are booked so far, and we are thinking maybe 60 or 65 will be there.) We are having the religious ceremony which is $1160, and are having the private mixed grill poolside reception which, with alcohol comes to $29 a head. So, how is everything all tallyed up on your bill at the end of the trip? I am assuming it all gets thrown on your credit card?(and I am going to call the credit card company the week before to tell them we are getting married down in Mex. so they do not get suspicious of fraud). I tallyed up the cost of what it is going to be to have the ceremony, and the reception, and maybe a few extras (extra flowers or something) and it comes to about $3300. I am just super scared that if they do not give you a breakdown of cost of things, that they will charge us for whatever they want!! I am freaking out... I have to try to save up some money for grad. school and was hoping to have some left over after the wedding... sorry... Any advice And we are having Claudia as our photographer for our wedding and TTD which is costing a pretty penny, but we would regret it if we didnt get good pictures!!!

I think it depends on where you live... not to sound like one place is above the other, it's totally not... I am from an affluent town in NJ where people go way overboard on weddings... in NYC they usually do the same... it is expected to cover your plate typically, and as a couple we usually give $200 to $250 for a gift... Now, in a lot of cases, when you ask the couple after the wedding (close friends), they say their gifts were all over the charts... some a lot, some not, some didnt give at all!!! When I go to weddings for my friends from college (MD, PA, WV), everyone gives a smaller gift typically like $50 or something from the registry... but Jersey and New York, this whole tri-state area tend to do things over the top... SO bottom line... you give what you can!!! And if the person is your friend, they should understand that... PS my girls from college say that we in NJ are CRAZY with the amount spent on weddings and wedding gifts... I AGREE!!! lol
