So my engagement party is this Saturday. It's a cocktail party hosted by my mom's best friend (female in her 50s}, her daughter and son in law (couple in their late 20s}, and my mom's boss (male doctor, 50s}. {sorry, my right parenthesis doesn't work!} They are putting a lot of work and money into giving me this party, and I want to give them something nice as a gift. The women are pretty easy, I'll probably get them a small piece of jewelry. But what in the heck do I get the men? Both are well off and probably have everything they've ever wanted, so I'm stumped! And of course, I've waited until the last minute and my FMIL and FSIL fly in from Montana tomorrow, so I'm not going to have much time to shop. Help!

My confession: I met my fiance through an online game that we both played. He lived in Montana and I lived in Louisiana. About a year after I met him, some friends of mine moved near where he lived, and they met up and became friends. I went to visit them and met Billy, and it was love at first sight. We got engaged a few months later after only spending like 2 weeks together. He moved down here in August. Thing is, I'm SO embarrassed about how we met. My family sees me as totally normal and would think computer games are nerdy, and my mom was TOTALLY weirded out about how we met. She has really been cool with it, but we haven't told extended family or friends how we met. At my company Christmas party, one of my coworkers asked us how we met since my fiance is obviously not from Louisiana. Billy blurted out "We met on an internet game!" and I about died. I can't ever imagine telling my old sorority sisters from college, coworkers, or really anyone the real story on how we met. People always ask couples how they met, and I wish I wasn't so embarrassed by my story!

I too am in need of makeup advice! I think I may take some of the suggestions here and let MAC do a trial run... One thing though, I've never worn foundation...not sure why, mainly because I'm REALLY pale so it's hard to find something for me, plus my skin has always been pretty even and smooth. Should I try doing foundation for my wedding? I'm SO scared of my skin looking cakey or fake. I guess I could start practicing now, but I really don't want to have to start wearing it every day. Will I look worse in my pictures without foundation??

Paradisus Punta cana Brides- DJ or IPOD

We are doing the iPod. My best friend has a fancy one that she is hooked on, so I gave her the honor of getting the playlist setup - I'm just suggesting a list of songs and she'll fill in the blank. I just didn't want to add so much to my budget for a DJ that probably won't play stuff we want to hear anyway... -
What's your new last name going to be?

We are staying in a Deluxe Jr. Suite before the wedding and a Royal Service Imperial Romance room after. I think most of our guests booked the basic Deluxe suite b/c of cost. I did read somewhere thought that ALL the rooms, including the basic rooms, are getting re-done and upgraded, so I'm hoping they are very fresh and nice! -
Welcome, and great choice! *edit - OMG I'm an idiot, I already posted in this thread!!

Welcome to the forum! I'm getting married in the DR, but honeymooning in Jamaica. My TA HIGHLY recommended Sandals Negril, so that's where we are going and I can't wait! Have fun with all of your planning!

How about New Orleans? It's pretty close, very inexpensive, and it's a beautiful city to visit. I lived there for a few years in graduate school, and now I'm about an hour away and I go back as often as I can! They have first class hotels, some of the best food in the country, and all kinds of things to see and do. And, don't believe the news...New Orleans is just as safe for tourists as anywhere else in the country.

Ok, I have a confession to make. My fiance and I met playing World of Warcraft! It is insanely addictive and a huge time drain, but it worked out well for me!

Welcome! I'm a Paradisus Punta Cana bride...I hear the area is beautiful. Great choice!

I am a scientist with an Environmental Consulting Firm. It's not terribly interesting like some of you gals' jobs sound!

Today is a holiday? I'm working too...bleh.

I am SO glad this thread got started...I've always thought about getting a Brazilian, but was too scared to ask around about the experience! I think I might get this done before the wedding...how long before would be ideal? I don't want to get it too close and be irritated, but I also wouldn't want it to start re-growing before the wedding! Any ideas?

It's rerunning tonight at 10 pm (ET?) for anyone wanting to catch it.

Ooh, I'm definitely going to have to catch this in re-run if I can. I had seen the previews (I too love this show!) but forgot to watch. Sandals Negril is where we are honeymooning, and we are booked in the Lazy River Suites, so I'd love to see what it's going to be like! Thanks for the info!

So getting my dress ordered has been a HUGE nightmare. To make a long story short-ish: I found my dream dress online back in October of last year. I spent months calling around looking for it, but it turned out it was from the newest collection and wouldn't be in stores until January. I only found *1* store in my state that had ordered a sample. Fast forward to January, and the store calls me to say that they won't be getting the dress until May (my wedding is in July). Well, obviously I didn't want to order a dress that I had never seen, so I thought all hope was lost. I emailed the designer and asked if they had shipped this dress to anyone in my state. Turns out the boutique right down the street (who told me back in October that they had no intention of ordering the dress) had one. I called the boutique and was told they had received the sample 3 days prior. I was SO excited, I was going to get to try on my dream dress! Well....an hour later the girl from the boutique called. She went to pull the dress for me and couldn't find it. Turns out they sold the sample off the rack the day before. Argh!!! But, last Friday, they called to tell me that the girl who had purchased it had brought it in to be steamed, and I could come by to look only (no trying on!). I jumped on the chance, and I'm so glad I did. The dress was so amazing in person that I'm ordering it this afternoon without trying it on (I've tried on similar styles, so I'm not too worried)! So, here it is, my perfect dress!! (darnit, picture wouldn't embed, so here's the link) Mon Cheri Bridals - Product Detail

I think the DJ is $200 per hour, not total. I'm going with the iPod set up, as spending $6-800 on a DJ is out of my budget, plus most of our guests are older and couldn't care less about the music. =) -

Hrm, I guess I just haven't asked for enough...Last thing I got was a spreadsheet of costs along with a "Wedding Planner" booklet where you pick all your selections. I'll ask her about waiving the deposit, she had asked for $200. It's not a lot, but I'd rather not have to hassle with the credit card authorization form and all that. I will send her the contract back, however. If you get anything else good keep on posting! =) -

Ooh, thanks so much for posting these! And btw, how do you get all this stuff from the WC? She NEVER sends me anything (although it could be b/c I still owe her a deposit)! -
Dress dilemma!
LindsayG replied to LindsayG's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Thanks for all the advice so far! I have tried on a similar style dress from another designer - Sincerity Bridal - Style: 3184 It was close, but not quite what I was looking for (a bit TOO girly with the bow and all). I think I'll go ahead and wait until one of the bridal salons gets the dress in so I can see it in person. I hate waiting though! lol.
