  1. Anyone happen to know who Maye uses as a DJ? And if so, did you like him?
  2. I have seen a lot of good reviews for Suzanne Morel, but I was just wondering if anyone has used Hive for their hair/makeup, and if so, what was your experience? (I tried to do a search for Hive Spa on the forum, but it didn't seem to be working for me.)
  3. Yeah, I definitely have to figure out what sorts of prizes would be good. I want to try to get a bunch of different ones. I was thinking itunes gift cards would be good. They come in 4 packs at costco. Need to think of something for the older guests though. Kiki, the cost I was quoted was $800 for the setup and the people to work the tables. I guess they set up like 3 or 4 different games. Leia, have you chosen a location to do it? I'm debating whether to just have a welcome dinner too, so that way the waitstaff would be around to serve drinks. Not sure yet though.
  4. So, I've decided to go ahead and book casino night for our guests. Yay fun! But Mariana has asked me if it's OK to do it at the beach. Where do people usually have it? Would you recommend the beach? I was thinking it might be too windy and hoping it could be on a patio or something.
  5. Thanks for the info. I am trying to figure out whether to get a DJ or just rent speakers and use an iPod. Seems pretty pricy to just set up speakers at Dreams. If you have your ceremony and reception in two locations you get charged twice for the set up fee which is $200, so you pay $400 for just speakers and you have to have someone run your iPod. If I can find a DJ for not much more, I'd like to go that route. How much does Paco charge?
  6. Love the casino night idea! I think it'd be a lot of fun for the guests. I guess you'd have to buy prizes for the people to win, maybe gift cards or something Do you know what the fee for setting it up at Dreams is?

I'll have to check it out before going for it. As for paying for open bar, I was thinking I wouldn't pay and just make my guests walk over to wherever they have to to get drinks. It can't be that far, right? Or no? Then she got back to me with a quote of $8pp. Quote: Originally Posted by jak27 I found this in a magazine a while ago, and scanned it in so I would have it. Thanks for the inspiration. It totally is too cute!
  8. I know that the Hilton offers a s'mores bonfire thing. So I asked Dreams if they could do it. They didn't seem to know what I was talking about at first, which leads me to think they haven't done it there before, but once I explained it they said they could do it at one of their fire pits for $8 pp for 4 hours. I think it'd be a nice welcome event. So, I was wondering what your thoughts are on having a s'mores station. If you had one, was it worth it? I think it would be cool, but then I think maybe people won't feel like eating chocolate if it's hot. Is that a weird thought or no?
  9. If you don't want to purchase a bunch of appliances, my jeweler recommended cleaning it with gentle soap like ivory and a toothbrush. Then to dry it, you can use a hairdryer. However, if you want it to look really fantastic, I think a steam cleaner is the way to go. It get rid of the grime underneath the stone, not just the top. My jeweler sells a small personal one called the Jewel Jet and I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase one. I just took it to him to get professionally cleaned and it looked more sparkly than when I use my ultrasonic machine (yeah, i got one of those too).

  12. I'm glad to hear good comments on the dress. FI was like, it probably doesn't look that good if it wasn't popular enough for me to find it. But I disagree. It's just a past collection. He's also very against me having it custom made. He thinks I need to try it on first. I just would if I could find it. ARG!!!! I called all these bridal salons that carry her line in my area (which is Tennessee right now) and I called every salon in Massachusetts (which is where I'm from) too. It's just frustrating because it's like I feel so close to finding THE DRESS, but so far away!
  13. First I narrowed down the dates based on the weather. Then, we chose a holiday weekend to make it more convenient for our friends and family to attend.
  14. Wow, you all are fast! Anny, I'm glad to hear your good experience and I'll have to check out that book, Irie. Thanks!
  15. Thanks Tlseege. I'm glad to hear someone else likes it because I've tried looking for this dress used, but no luck...So I was thinking it wasn't very popular. But I love how simple and flowy it is. Plus, I'm really set on strapless. Just wish I could find it!
  16. I was just curious if any of you have gone this route. I read some good things about a company called Julius Bridal. Apparently they have a store front somewhere in NY, but the dresses are made in China. You can send them a picture of a dress you like and they'll custom make it. This is the dress that I really love, but since it's from a Tara Keely Spring 2006 collection, I haven't been able to locate it to try on, so I don't know how exactly it would look on me . Julius Bridal quoted me $500 to make it, but I am not sure if I should do it or not. I still have about 9 months before my wedding and it should come in 1-2 months, so I would still have time to find an alternative if it doesn't work out, but I really hope that wouldn't happen. So what do you all think? And if anyone has had any experience getting a dress custom made, I'd love to hear your experience. Thanks!!!
  17. Soooo beautiful! Congrats Jen. And thanks for sharing, Juan. Those kids are crazy adorable.
  18. Thanks for the info. Definitely good to know about. I wonder if you wanted to do s'mores if it would still be $24pp. I'll have to ask.
  19. This may be a dumb question, but do the luminary bags need to be special flame retardent ones or can you use any old white lunch bags?
  20. I'm so glad to see this thread! I thought we were the only ones not registering. FI was absolutely against asking anyone who spends the $ to come to our wedding for a gift. We are going to have one AHR for my FI's family (my family is on the other coast and we're undecided on whether to have an AHR there. i think it will depend on how much money is left after all is said and done). But we're still not going to register because they're asian and they give $$ as wedding gifts.
