The sand in the RM is made of ground up coral for the most part which for whatever reason does not retain heat.
  3. The sand in the riviera maya is nothing like the sand at the shore. You honestly do not even feel any heat from it at all. Very cool to the touch.
  4. There are some other meats you can do low-fat too. We eat low-fat pork loin, turkey burgers, lean cuts of steak, etc. Some of those are equal to or better than chicken in terms of fat content and calories.
  5. Ok. I missed the 'a' week, but I managed to get a 'b' yesterday. I found this while walking around town during my lunch break yesterday and it was the only thing that I could find that resembled a 'b'. It's a crosswalk signal from the side. I think this is going to be a lot of fun!

I didn't hear about that. Actually I have not listened to Howard 100 in a while. I knew (or had a feeling) he was back on drugs again. His voice, sleeping all the time, sick days and all that was just too obvious. I hope he gets better though. He is such a great guy with a lot of talent.

  8. Shit! I forgot about this. I will be looking for "b"s this week and if I can I'll sneak an "a" in there at the same time. All the entries so far are so cool! Tammy......your "a" picture of the sawhorse(?) in the grass was aswesome! I think the grass that you wished was not so overgrown really added something cool to the photo. And..... How did you do the b&w conversion? Just curious because the tones in it are very nice. Was it a simple thing? What program? I think I need to pick your brain about computer processing of photos. I always love the way your come out with the effects and whatnot.
  9. Has this happened to other photographers? Seeing as how the bride who hired Robin had full clearance ahead of time to bring an outside photographer and things still went crazy, I would think it would be a good idea to bring the incident to the wedding planners attention. Letting them know that you know of incidents like that carry a lot more weight than just asking the basic question. Know what I mean?
  10. I know I am real late on this one........but congrats!! My wife Karen and I were at the ROR on your wedding date. Actually, that is our anniversary date too. Our room overlooked the pool and Plantation and I remember seeing your party going on while out on our balcony smoking a cigarette waiting for my lovely wife to get ready for our dinner out at Evita's.

  12. When choosing a photographer, my wife Karen and I started by looking at destination wedding photos in general to get some ideas of what we wanted and did not want, liked and did not like and so forth. Then we started looking into photographers in the area of Mexico where we were getting married. Once we found a few that we were interested in we sent out some emails asking for specifics. We asked for.. -prices for what we wanted. Not necessarily what they had pre-packaged -samples of entire weddings instead of just a few shots from a few weddings. If you only see a few you are looking at the best of the best for that wedding. What about the other couple hundred images? You need to look at those too. -and finally and very importantly......if they are available on the wedding date. We ended up choosing Vanessa Vargas (based in Cancun) and we are so glad we did. She is an amazing photographer and an amazing person as well. That's what we did in a nutshell. If you need any help or ideas feel free to ask. I am more than happy to help out. We also have a large number of very talented and very helpful photographers on the board.

Aside from a small admission fee, I would imagine that most places would not charge you extra to photograph there. Some suggestions though.... 1. Ask ahead of time if possible and get a contact name. 2. Offer a tip or some sort of extra money if they help you out in any way. 3. Respect their rules and regulations. You are a guest there and have to play by their rules. Don't try to bend them. 4. Respect the cenote. These places were considered sacred by the Maya and deserve respect and consideration. Don't leave any trash. Don't break, alter or change anything there. 5. Have fun.
  14. Who is my crush here?? Why my beautiful wife Karen of course.

One thing to keep in mind is that the water from the cenotes flows out to the ocean. Anything discarded or left in the water makes its way out to the ocean and can harm the reef system there. When enough trash builds up it can plug up an outlet to the ocean creating flooding and making cenotes inaccessible.
  19. Karen and I went cave snorkeling down there a few years ago and it was awesome! It was at hidden worlds. Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park Yucatan Mexico Riviera Maya I was just looking around online before at photos of cenotes and when I saw a few wedding related photos...I figured it would be something more people would be into. Most of them are privately owned. It would probably not be too hard to strike a deal with the owners to do some wedding photography at one of the cenotes. That is if they would even want to charge you extra at all. There is one cenote in particular that would make for some very interesting TTD photos. Cenote Calaveras which is located south of Tulum. Basically the way to get into the cenote is to jump into a 'hole' in the ground which drops down to the water. It's plenty wide enough and there is plenty of light down below too so that it is not like jumping into a cave with no light. Imagine the photos of the bride and groom holding hands while jumping into the hole? That would be so cool. the video below shows someone jumping in. The hole he uses is too small for two people, but there are bigger spots there. YouTube - Cenote jump tulum mexico
  20. Here is a photo of Gran Cenote from one angle. I have always loved the way the vines reach down to the water. Here is another cenote. Not sure which one it is though.
  21. Hi there everyone! I just saw some photos online of TTD and/or general wedding photos online and thought that some of you may want to know more about and where some of these cenotes are. The link below has tons of info on local cenotes and what they are all about. Cenotes: Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico Most of them are less than $10US to get into and are a refreshing change from the heat of the area. The water is much cooler than the ocean because they are fresh water springs. Anyhoo, just trying to get some discussion going and hopefully more people will chime in with ideas and info on the more popular cenotes like Gran Cenote.
  22. Karen and I got Sirius mostly for Howard Stern when he first moved over to Sirius. I gotta admit though......I rarely listen to the show anymore. I listened from when I was about 15 all the way up to now which is like 15+ years. I just can't really get into it anymore for some reason. Lately it's been all the music channels that have me going. The reggae channel is awesome, Lithium is good, Backspin is the shit and yes......I'll admit it........I listen to Cosmo when Karen and I are in the car together. The morning show is really really funny sometimes. At least I have Kenny on the show to keep me from feeling completely outnumbered.
  23. Karen and I were talking about this last night and it made us come to a few conclusions.... 1. I wonder how much of this is fear based propaganda. People still say that it is not safe for anyone to leave the resort in Jamaica. That is just not true at all. Sure, some areas may be dangerous, but definitely not everywhere in the country. I just wonder how much of the 'danger' for same sex couples is real. 2. How much different is it than a same sex couple kissing in public in most of the US? Outside of most metropolitan areas I am usually under the impression that people frown on it. It sucks, it really sucks that it is like that...but a lot of times it is true in our own country, not just Jamaica. 3. The Jamaican attitude towards homosexuality really came to the public eye because of some dancehall music in the 90's that had extreme anti-gay lyrics. There was an international outcry about it which further publicized the attitude and I feel it painted the country with possibly too wide of a brush in regards to that. I could be wrong. I am not sure. That is just how I see it. There is/was quite a bit of anti-gay sentiment in rap/hip hop here in the US. Sometimes there is a movement against it, but often times not. But, that does not mean by any stretch that the whole US is anti-gay just because of the words or actions of a few. Just like the attitude that Jamaica is not safe beyond the resort walls that has been perpetrated for quite a while, the sentiment that Jamaica is not safe for gay people may not be entirely accurate. I would hate to think that it is true. While there may be a large number of people who for whatever reason do not condone same sex couples, I would imagine that they would never want to harm them. Hell, I do not agree with a lot of things people do. But I would never harm them for their choices, actions, beliefs, or just who they are. And what I have always found to be true is that 99% of people in the world are good, kind, and generally nice people. That goes for here, Jamaica and anywhere else. Hopefully that translates to people of any orientation in Jamaica.
  24. Count me in! When is the deadline for the letter "A"? Will there be a separate post for submissions or should we throw them in here? Thanks for coming up with the idea Tammy.
  25. When we were at the ROR, there were a lot of seemingly and openly gay couples there. Nobody seemed to care either way. Outside of the hotels and resorts may be a different story though.
