  1. Mine is definitely *up there* in comparison to other brides on this forum, but we're having a larger number of guests, and have done some other expensive things, like bringing our own photographer from the US. There is another thread on budget somewhere. You may want to look for that.
  2. My local knottie got married at PB Sunset Beach on Saturday! Some photos of her wedding can be found on her photographer's blog - they're just gorgeous! http://www.britneyphotography.com/wordpress/ eta - you may have to scroll down to Court + Jen.
  3. Tammy, that sounds DEVINE.... and the dinner tonight was a huge hit, and relatively easy. Highly recommended!
  4. awesome to hear, ladies! I am excited!
  5. the next time you're in our 'hood I'll definitely invite you!
  6. looks like this is where we'll be honeymooning. Chris just won a charity auction for four nights here. Looking forward to it!
  7. Okay, next question. Should I add color to the embossed leaf on 4? like make it green? eta the invites are letterpress, so they'll all have that embossed look.

welcome! I have family that did a cruise wedding and they loved it. I am sure that you will have a blast!
  9. Pumpkin Cream Cheese Pie 8 oz. softened cream cheese ( used lowfat) 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 c. sugar 1 egg 1 deep 9" unbaked pie shell (I have been known to use graham cracker, and it's good, but the regular is also good) Mix above ingredients (except pie shell) well and spread on bottom of unbaked pie shell. Then combine: 1 and 1/4 c. canned pumpkin 1 tsp. cinnamon dash of salt 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. ginger and 1/4 tsp nutmeg (I just use pumpkin pie spice ) 2 beaten eggs 1 c. evaporated milk Mix well. Carefully pour over cheese mixture. Bake at 350 degrees Farenheit for 65-70 minutes. Garnish with halved pecans if desired. this was also really easy to make, and tastes delicious.
  10. any of you want to swap favorite holiday recipes? I'll start. I made this chowder last night to serve for dinner for my girlfriends tonight. shrimp, corn and roasted chili chowder 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, room temperature 2 tablespoons all purpose flour 1 medium onion, coarsely chopped 3 celery stalks, coarsely chopped 2 large poblano chilies,* seeded, chopped (I used a combo of anaheim chilies, red bell pepper, pastisas chili. I roasted all of them prior to chopping and adding to my soup.) 2 14 3/4- to 15-ounce cans cream-style corn 1 16-ounce package frozen corn kernels, thawed 2 14-ounce cans low-salt chicken broth 1 cup whipping cream (I subbed Nonfat half and half for the cream to reduce calories & fat) 2 teaspoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 pound uncooked shrimp, peeled, deveined, coarsely chopped 6 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro Mix 2 tablespoons butter and flour in small bowl to blend; set aside. Finely chop onion and celery in processor. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in large pot over medium-high heat. Add onion-celery mixture and chilies; sauté until soft, about 6 minutes. Add creamed corn and next 5 ingredients; bring to boil. Reduce heat. Whisk in butter-flour mixture and simmer 15 minutes to blend flavors. Add shrimp and 4 tablespoons cilantro; simmer until shrimp are cooked through, about 5 minutes longer. Season with salt and pepper. Ladle chowder into bowls. Sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons cilantro. * Fresh green chilies, often called pasillas; available at Latin American markets and some supermarkets. Makes 12 first-course or 6 main-course servings. This turned out great and was very easy. I am serving it tonight with crusty sourdough, and caesar salad. For dessert, I made a pumpkin cream cheese pie. I'll post that recipe next.
  11. hi Natalie, Daylight Saving occurs the second week of April in Mexico. It will be earlier in the US. 8pm sounds about right for June - it's the longest month of the year.

I don't want people to feel bad that aren't coming if they then get an invitation when they told me they weren't coming. Any thoughts? Hi Natalie, I am sending out my invites at the first week of jan so approx 2.5 months early. I think I am going to ask guests to rsvp by the second week in Feb. Per etiquette, you should send an invitation to everyone that you have sent a STD to, regardless of whether or not they intend to attend your wedding.
  13. That's so funny Christa. It's totally from brides. As soon as we decided Cabo and I found this photo I was off and running as far as design ideas go for the wedding. I hope we can figure out some things to share.

I just entered the phase where I am looking to mocking my own thing up. I know! When the date gets closer, we should totally try to share some of our stuff.

That's probably my least favorite, although when I sent them to Chris he said he liked it the best because they spelled his name right - HAHA. My colors are shades of blue and green, a la this photo (I'm going to recreate this for my wedding) and thanks Sarah for the compliment on the frond. I also used it on my STD... I figure it'll kind of tie this stuff together.
  18. So I had these grandiose visions of sewing paper & fabric, etc. I even did a mock-up. Turned out beautifully. But alas, I just have run out of time. I've been so busy with work and travel that it's just not gonna get done so I am on to plan B - having invites made. I am currently working with Melina from www.papelvivo.com - she has come up with some options for me so I thought I would share them and get some opinions from you all. Option 1: based upon this design http://www.papelvivo.com/a185.html Option 2: based upon this design: http://www.papelvivo.com/a186.html Option 3: based upon this design: http://www.papelvivo.com/a165.html and option 4 the palm leaf would be embossed on this one, to make it most similar to the fleur-de-lis on this design: http://www.papelvivo.com/a178.html we can play around with fonts, and colors all that we want. And obviously the info isn't correct on these mock-ups. So help me out here, I'm runnin' out of time! Which one do you like the best?
  19. Thanks for posting this. If our DJ doesn't work out, I totally want to go this route/
  20. Kash, back in college i worked in an upscale bridal salon. Things that work really well to make you (general) look smaller are: gowns with a rouched waist gowns with a dropped waist gowns that have an X pattern at the waist. I would not recommend: natural waist anything with too much detail around your mid-section I do think that strapless is usually a good choice, even if you have large arms. Generally all that white fabric just makes you look bigger. I would also look for an aline gown. Try to shy away from anything with pleats, and gathering around the waist. If you want any help looking for gowns I would be happy to join you. I am in OC by the way, there is NO freaking way that you are full-figured.

We had a mariachi band for the ceremony and cocktail hour and then had The Twins for the reception and it pretty much blew everyone away. They were kind of expecting cheesy Mexican wedding band and The Twins were actually really good! they sound awesome! we're going to look into this!
  22. AKH if you go to the knot, the gal who is the bio of the week is wearing this gown. gorgeous!
