WARNING about SUNSET DA MONA LISA

Hello Ladies! I just want to provide an update on Sunset da Mona LIsa. I e-mailed Emma about the charges on our credit card (e.g. more than $600.00 for water for only 28 adults on top of almost $ 4000 dollars in alcoholic beverages. Only about 10 adults in our party drank alcoholic beverages!) and I still have not heard from her. I had been advised by my credit card company to settle this with the merchant first but since I have not heard back from Sunset da Mona Lisa, I will take this up with my credit card company. I just want to warn all of you who are having their wedding at SML, be very careful! It is a very beautiful location but I learned later from other sources that they have been known to have charges like these appearing on the credit card bill.

I will continue to provide an update as we try to settle this matter.

I wonder if when they're putting the amounts in to process your credit card they are putting it in pesos instead of US dollars and something's getting lost in translation...that would seem more reasonable?

Roughly it would work out to $60 for water and $400 for alcohol.

Hi Melissa,

No, we have already done the math. It is clearly more than $600.00 in water. In our bill they served 163 bottles of water! It is outrageous! Also four of our vendors were not served their meals but we were charged for them too. There are only 28 adults in our party (including Juan and his assistant it is 30 but Juan left shortly after dinner). In total we paid more than $9000 for a party of 28 adults.

I have already e-mailed Emma of SML almost two months ago and I still have not heard from her.

Make sure you keep all e-mails with Emma in a folder. Oftentimes she forgets ( I am giving her the benefit of the doubt here) what you have agreed upon. Also, I think it would be better to pay open bar by the hour since they count your adult guests and they charge per person. This way you know exactly what to expect. We paid for the drinks per consumption so it was difficult to prove who really drank what. Also regarding water, they served Fiji water which I did not authorize. In the open bar, water is included. Emma was not there when our wedding ended so she cannot be responsible for the charges but since she is the sales manager she has to be accountable.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
