Calgarybride2015's Planning Thread 15/1/21 Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya

I'm gonna add my 2 cents here and agree that you did the right thing sizing your dress for now. Better safe than sorry. If you have to have it taken in later, then all good but I agree with not wanting to scramble last minute. Especially with your wedding being so close!! Losing weight puts so much pressure on, regardless of what it's for. And as we get older, it gets harder to lose so just adds more stress. I ask myself all the time why we do that to ourselves but I do the same thing. I've lost a total of 25lbs now (thanks more to the hospital than to me) but now my appetite is coming back a bit and I'm scared to death that I'll put some of the weight back on!! lol

Opinion always appreciated.

Weight does put a lot of pressure on us, especially thru the Christmas season. I told fiance in hindsite maybe we wouldn't have married so close after Christmas HAHA jk of course. I feel your struggle with your appetite coming back, just make good conscious decisions and I bet you can keep a lot of it off.

So update on calling David's Bridal.

They let me speak to the manager. I expressed my concern that I wasn't warned that the stock dresses would be a bit larger and to be prepared for my dress to be tight. I told her I had called back in July with my concern also. She mentioned that 50% of people have their dresses taken OUT and it's really not uncommon. (not sure if that is an accurate stat). She said they can be taken in or out 2 sizes. she apologized that noone warned me of this. She went into the system and checked my measurements and said 'she ordered you a 12 right?' she said my measurements bounced between a 10/12 and one a 12/14. She said she wouldn't have done anything different for me - she would have suggested I order a 12. She said it's much cheaper and easier for them to take out one area to make the dress fit me in a size 12, then it is to buy me a 14 and take the dress in extensively. It makes sense BUT noone told me this. Had alterations told me if they had seen me in the dress? I don't know if that is alterations job, but if so then maybe the lady should have been adamant I wait to see them. I waited 30 mins and another lady she said they were busy and just gave me a general quote from their book on a hem and bustle because that is all I thought I needed! Anyways the manager said she could try to get me a 14, but it's a bit late now as I have left my dress with the new seamstress and quite possible she has started to work on it.

If she isn't blowing smoke, I guess she makes some sense. It is probably easier to just take out the back panel a smidgen, than it is to alter to the whole dress back down to a 12.25 size lol. I just wish someone would have told me that as I left the store thinking 'yay I have a dress that fits me like a glove'

I am happy with my decision to have the process started. I have made a pact to get back into weights 2-3 times a week and see what damage I can do myself before December 3. My gut tells me that chances are I need a little extra room in there anyways so I didn't make the wrong decision.

Thanks for listening to me vent. I knew things were bound to go wrong and this was one of them. I should have known from the minute I put the dress on back in July and August, but I guess I was naive to how big the issue really was.

That is SO frustrating - I hate when people don't think to tell anyone these things.  Its like verbal fine print!  No matter what, you have the room now, and any damage you do in the gym just makes you feel better all around - you also have a few bathing suits to wear ;)  So sweat it up and feel great about it!

Hey! Mine were done in Calgary too :)  They were at Confederation Park. Where did you get yours done? You should come back on and post some for us - I'd love to see them.  Your package price is unreal! Most people I know in Calgary who married here paid over $4000. Congrats

Ok so I finally got our sneak peek photos!  I don't have the full set on usb yet, but here is a couple as promised:

Update

This weekend and last I worked on my maraca favors.

Here is the finished product.  I used a sharpie to write on the maracas as most other markers rubbed off and black seemed to be the only color to show up well.  I was a bit sad that my silver metallic sharpie just didn't cut it.

I have my 'cards' banner done for my treasure chest,... it's taped on at the moment LOL trying to figure out how to attach it once I get to Mexico.

I mailed our my pre-travel brochures/luggage tags today!  I am excited for people to start receiving them!

Next weekend, November 15, is my bachelorette party!  I have no idea what is going on and who all RSVP'd but I am super stoked about it. One of my lovely friends can't make it so she gave me a nice gift at the gym last week - a Victoria's Secret gift card - I shall see if there is anything I can get for the wedding (if I get over my shyness!)

EDIT:

I have been working on a little timeline that I can hand out with at our 'Welcome Drinks'  This is what I have done so far, and I am considering making the back a place for people to record each other's room numbers.  It's 5x7 in size. What do you all think? (sorry for the quality/shadows - I took a photo of my computer screen) Thanks.

I think you should totally go to VS and get some things for your hubby ;). I know it feels silly but there's nothing like feeling great in some amazing lingerie.

I love your timeline cards. They're exactly what I was thinking of doing haha but we'll add them to our OOT bags :).  I think handing them out with your welcome drinks is a good idea too and I love the idea of leaving room in the back for people to write other people's room numbers. It helps when you want to call someone in the morning and plan your day together.

We are also giving our tumblers/'oh shit' kits at the welcome drinks but there isn't much I can make that would fit inside the cup, so thought I could give them a cup and timeline card together :)

Thanks ladies for your comments.

I made the timeline card in Publisher which is SOOOO much easier than word!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
