Gooooood question. I want to trash my dress. My mom paid for it as my gift and it cost $2500 so EVERYONE is telling me I'm nuts. My fiancé originally was down until he decided to get a custom suit at $800 and now he refuses to trash his suit. I keep hearing from past brides and photographers that the dress rinses clean of the sand. The advice I have seen is to just rinse it immediately after the session and hang dry it. I thought about doing a separate dress- but it wouldn't look or feel the same. The point of a TTD is to have super awesome pics in your actual dress. I also considered getting a cheaply made duplicate look alike. This can be made in China. A few brides have done this. You send a picture of your dress and have it duplicated for relatively cheap- $300 or so. This is still a consideration but despite what people think- so is trashing my real dress. What am I saving it for? I didn't want to wear my mothers dress, how can I assume my future child will want mine? Why else do you need the dress to stay in perfect condition? I can't come up with a good enough reason to NOT trash the dress other than people telling me not to.

DITTO. Exactly. I am trashing my dress. It was a gift from my parents... though I have not told them about my water-wearing plans yet. I am just wearing it in the ocean and maybe the pool. I was planning on wearing it to my AHR... but I have heard from so many people that rinsing the dress out in the shower after being in the ocean actually makes it cleaner than just having it on the sand. SO I am going for it. That is the whole idea to me, too.

I thought about getting another dress but then I felt like I would be cheating on my origional dress! So many people end up selling their dresses or holding on to them and never wearing them again so I might as well use it to its fullest and I think the cool pictures you get from it will be priceless! When you do the trash the dress photo shoot the next day do people get their makeup and hair redone or they just do it themselves since it will get ruined in the water?

I say go for it!  This sounds like something that you really want to do so don't worry about what somebody else thought.  You paid for it so you should get to be the decision maker on it;)  Like others have said just rinse it out immediately after.  My girlfriend got married in Key West and forgot to bustle her dress as they were partying in the streets.  She ended up having black all over the bottom of her dress. She soaked it in OxiClean and it came right out.

I totally agree with what the other girls are saying. I say GO FOR IT!! I originally had doubts also but then I figured its not like im ever going to wear it again so why not! Now my only concern is how heavy the dress is going to be seeing as it is sating lol!

I am jealous of all of the brides that get to trash their original dress. I was planning on TTD despite what my mom said but our photographer has to fly home the day after the wedding so I had to purchase a second dress to trash before the wedding. Either way, dry cleaning and preserving your dress will be expensive- one of my friends dry cleaned and preserved hers (she did NOT TTD) and it was $500. My other friend trashed her dress in the ocean and it was covered in sand and it still cost her $500 to dry clean and preserve. I've heard of brides showering with their dress on after being in the ocean and most sand came out- so I'd say go for it!!!!

Also, in regards to paying to have your dress cleaned, I did a TTD in a cenote (so it had no sand in it) and I had the resort dry clean it, I figured for $130 pesos (about $10-$11 US) if I did it in Mexico once or twice it would cost a fraction of what it would cost at home. They did an AMAZING job and my dress was 100% like new after one dry cleaning job at the resort!

• Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
