Best strapless bra to go under wedding dress?

Recommended Posts

I just posted in another forum about the cups themselves, so I copied and pasted my response again here:

On the recommendation of the alterations place, I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics and bought "gel-filled bra cups."  I couldn't find them on Jo-Ann's website, but took the UPC code from my receipt and found them on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Dritz-Gel-Bra-Cups-Nude/dp/B007KFG3NG/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1351739462&sr=1-1&keywords=Dritz+Gel+Bra+Cups+-+C%2FD+Cupir?t=bestdestinationwedding-20&l=ur2&o=1

Regular price is $15.99 at Jo-Ann Fabrics, but I used a 60% off coupon so I paid only $6.40! They come in B/C and C/D size. I cannot remember if there was a smaller size. After seeing my dress, she didn't think it was necessary to use them, but I am a 34D and felt a bit more secure with some support.

I tried different strapless and shapewear of all sorts and thought I would be happiest not having to worry about something showing or slipping, not to mention yet another layer of clothes in a tropical climate!

I know this is kind of a late post, but I haven't seen anyone post about what my seamstress did, and it worked out really well for me, so I thought it might still help other ladies out there.

I had a sweetheart neckline, strapless, lace-up back dress for my wedding. I am usually a 34B but I have a long torso so if I don't wear some kind of push up bra, my breasts just look like they're hanging kind of low even though they really aren't. I was really concerned about what kind of undergarment I could wear with the dress - I'm not a huge fan of strapless bras but I wasn't sold on the sewn-in cups either - I couldn't really imagine how that would be supportive enough.

The store that I bought my dress at has their own seamstress, and everyone who works there is very knowledgeable about all things wedding dresses. So when I brought up my concern about what to go with, they all recommended the sewn-in cups. The seamstress had these foam fabric cups with a little bit of push-up padding that she recommended. She went one size up to ensure that I would have the coverage I needed as well as the lift, and that worked out really well. The biggest thing was that she sewed the cups using three or four stitches along the top of each cup, so right along the inside of the sweetheart neckline. I initially thought that she hadn't sewn in the cups properly, but when I asked about it, she said it was done that way so that the cups could move with my movement. She showed me that they were indeed securely sewn in but still able to move around, say if I twisted my torso one way or the other. Brilliant!

So getting into the dress meant positioning the dress at the proper height for my breasts, and then kind of pulling each one towards my sternum to get them in place in the cup. Then I had my bridesmaids lace up the corset and tighten it accordingly. This worked perfectly - I had enough push-up without it being too much, and danced the whole night away without any issues (at my destination wedding... lots of humidity and sweating!). It was really fantastic to not worry about a strapless bra and it was so comfortable. I would highly recommend this method for other brides!

I recommend always going to a lingerie store for your bras so you are properly fitted. Especially with one like a strapless. Yes they cost more but they fit right and are much better quality. It never stops amazing me how a proper fitted bra makes the girls look lol

I totally agree!! I went to a lingerie shop, and they found a brilliant strapless bra, even for a itty bitty like me!! ( I'm a 34a!!!) I'm also getting cups sewn into my strapless, sweetheart dress...just to give me a good shape! It's truly amazing what a decent fitting bra can do! :D

Stupid question.... what do you mean by "lingerie store"? All I know of is Victoria's Secret and there's no way those high school kids (no offense, they're wonderful for every-day lingerie) can help me pick proper wedding-day attire. Anyone have an recommendations for a US (MA) bride? Thanks!

There are high end stores here that only sell lingerie, bras, underwear, etc. Also have all the big sized bras for all women.

They won't even measure you! They make you try tonnes on and then come in the room and see - the ladies know their stuff. You'd be hard pressed (at my bra size anyways) to find a bra less than $100. In Calgary I use the Cats Pyjamas.

@@LauraM Gotta do a little research! I'm sure you can find a specialty store. I for my corset style bra same place I got my dress but after I try it on again I may decide to go to this specialty store not far from me to have my proper measurements taken for a better fit. I'm pretty itty bitty too lol so the better the fit/padding the better the lift!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
