At Home Receptions

Is everyone having an AHR. I had no idea about these until I joined this site.

I'm getting married in July 2009 with close family and very close friends in Turks and Caicos. My FH and I are then getting married in my local parish anywhere between August and September. We are just having our parents, grandmothers, siblings, and 2 of my aunts and cousins going to this Church wedding. Then we will be going out to dinner. Nothing fancy, and as far as i know my FH and I are most likely paying for this as well.

Do we invite the people who couldn't make it to our wedding in T&C to this Church/Restaurant wedding? We were considering not telling anyone we were doing this. I guess it depends on how much money we have/will be making.

So what's the etiquette?? Thank you all so much!

We are not having one. I have a really large family and did not want to have a big wedding which is why we are going the DW route. We are also paying for everything on our own, and would rather put our money towards a house than a party at home. I know some others are having AHRs so I guess it is up to you if you want one and an affod to have one.

I thought we had to have one, so I told everyone we would. I'm not really excited about it because it's one more thing to plan & pay for. If I had to do over, I probably wouldn't have said we'd do one in the first place.

But, if we are going to do it we are keeping it cheap & simple. It will just be a BBQ at a park. This will be in Texas where our family is. In north carolina where we live & have a bunch of friends, we are having a house party. That's something I can get excited about. The Texas party feels more like a chore and obligation.

I don't think you need to have an AHR & if you do I don't think it needs to be formal.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
