OFFICIAL NOW Jade Wedding Thread

If anyone had their reception in the bamboo room and brought paper lanterns to hang what size did you get?  12 in, 14 in, etc....

I haven't had mine yet, but I heard it is a good idea to get a bunch of different sizes. They will stagger them at different heights with the different sizes and make it look really nice. I've seen some pictures that look beautiful when done this way.

Also we are doing the DJ. It is expensive, but I'd rather not worry about it or have to have any of my guests worry about making the music play. With all the stress and preparation I'm going through planning everything, for me the payoff will be that once we are there, I don't want us to have to do anything besides enjoy our special day.

Does anyone have a timeline for their hair/make up, ceremony, cocktail hr, and reception activities? I'm trying to book a photographer and he wants to know what time to show up. I want time for getting ready and first look photos before the ceremony. Not sure if I should extend my reception either. Is 3 hrs enough time or is it better to go to the sports bar after?

We are doing 6 hours of photographs starting at 4pm, but my hair will already be done. We can get makeup pictures, my sister had her make up done for the most part and we faked applying it on her for pictures, and the ceremony is at 5 pm. The reception will be over at 11pm.

We are also starting our ceremony at 5. I heard the reception is only 3 hours. Did you extend the reception by a couple of hours? Are you also using a DJ and extending him as well?

Ours our early because it's supposed to get dark at about 5:15 that day so our ceremony is at 4, then cocktails at 5 and reception at 6

I still haven't been able my FI to hire an outside photographer so I'm hoping we don't wait to long and I'll be able to book once he changes his mind haha

Tell him that pictures are what you are going to have for the rest of your life!!!

That is honestly the most important thing with the whole wedding process!! I heard some good things about the resort photographer but I also read some not so good things, I would not like to jeopardize one of the most important details on the most important day! :D  The most advice I received from people is 'get a great photographer, those pictures are something you will look at for the rest of your life.'

Is anyone else freaking out about all the recent negative reviews on tripadvisor.com?! Our wedding is in 2015, and now I'm wondering if I need to start considering other resorts. :/

I would not worry about the reviews - my parents just got home from spending 2 weeks at the resort, and had nothing but good things to say about the resort! some people are just so picky and unreasonable.

Hello all you beautiful Jade brides!  I just booked my wedding for June 17, 2015 on the beach with a Castaways reception--so excited!

Question (even though its more of a generic destination wedding than a Jade question)...how far ahead did you/will you send Save the Dates? I'm planning my ceremony so far in advance to give people plenty of time to plan, but I don't want to be obnoxiously early either...any thoughts?

I also wanted to give people tons of time to plan & save money as well. So i am getting married November 24, 2014 and i sent my save the date things out at the beginning of october. people were happy about getting it sooner rather than later!

We are also starting our ceremony at 5. I heard the reception is only 3 hours. Did you extend the reception by a couple of hours? Are you also using a DJ and extending him as well?

we are having our reception from 6-10 but will be extending it until 12AM. I just feel like if people are spending all that money and traveling that far, lets at least make it worth their while! I am aware we could just go to the sports bar after 10pm, but i feel like that sort of ruins it a bit.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
