Hello Canadian Brides! I'm happy I found this forum! I'm getting married at the Blau Varadero in Cuba in January, can't wait! Looking forward to hearing about everyones experiences. Just wondering - is anyone bringing favors/decor/centre pieces for the tables at the dinner reception? Or not worrying about it?

Every resort offers different wedding packages. I chose to bring my favours, all decor minus the flowers, cloth napkins, chair sashes and candles.

Hello! We're bringing welcome bags for our guests in lieu of a wedding favour (travel mugs with customized labels, hand stencilled beach bags and a few other goodies). We're bringing down out own lanterns with LED lights, as well as chair bows and table runners (way cheaper off ebay than what our resort was offering). Haven't quite figured out the centrepiece bit quite yet.. If we don't figure something out before we leave, I imagine we'll just get a few smaller flower bouquets for the tables. In general, I've found it's much cheaper to buy stuff here and bring it down, than it is to "rent" it from the resort.

Hey Jackie! I am getting married in Cuba in May 2014 and I am bringing my decor and centrepieces with me. I didn't really love what the resort had to offer for decor, so I thought it would be worth it to bring my own. With that said I am trying to limit what I bring. I am going with simple centrepieces, but have purchased coral faux flowers and glass vases for the tables. I am also bringing tealight holders and shells ans starfish. As for favours I plan on buying a small bottle of rum for every couple/single, so I'll purchase those once we arrive in Varadero! The blau looks like a gorgeous place to get married... what are your plans are you bringing your own decor?

Hello and congratulations!

I am getting married at the Paradisus Punta Cana in November 2013! We were going to bring everything down and make it all ourselves up here because our resort's prices for centrepieces, etc. was extremely high. However, we saw a very simple wedding décor with just a small vase in the middle with a tea light. We are going to do this option, so it's less work for us up here, and we don't need to stress about getting everything down south! Our resort charges $5/table for this. Linens are included in our package and we paid extra for Chinese Lanterns. Our reception is poolside, so we believe this will be enough ambiance!

You should definitely check out the décor prices with your resort, then compare it to getting it all up here and shipping it/paying for an extra bag on the plane to go down there! I found shipping was quite expensive and you may want to use an extra piece of luggage if you're doing Welcome Bags or what not?
Happy planning :)

Hey there! I see you're getting married at Now Jade in the Mayan Riviera! I've heard great things about that resort.

I'm a newlywed from Vancouver that lives down here in Playa Del Carmen, and I have quite a few decor items leftover from our wedding in May. I've decided to rent things out to brides that don't want to lug things like vases & mason jars down here, and have priced things quite fairly compared to the resort's prices. I have a lots of different types of bottles, mason jars, vases and lanterns, as well as a variety of other items.

I'm also always interested in buying items that brides bring down and would like to sell after their weddings.

If you'd like to see some photos and a price list, please send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you all the info. Congrats on your upcoming wedding and happy planning!

Hey! I'm with ya, I'm not loving what the resort is offering, they don't have many choices for colors for the arch or the chair sashes. My color is navy, and they have a blue but it's a light "80's" blue and I kind of think it will look tacky. I might choose white, but I wonder if it will be too bland? I'm debating on what to do. I have ordered thank you/goodie bags for our guests but that's all I'm bringing (so far).

I think white will look really good, but what about purchasing your own chair sashes? I purchased coral ones from ebay. I think I paid about 35$ for 50 of them and they are super lightweight and don't take up much room at all... If you're really set on navy I'd suggest bringing your own.

We purchased chair bows and table runners of ebay as well (seller "vlovelife", and they just arrived yesterday! They're organza, so they're super lightweight and won't take up much suitcase space at all. I think they were around $40 for 50 bows and 10 runners. I've heard our resort charges for ironing and setting them up ($40), so need to factor that in to the purchase price as well. For us it still ended up being cheaper than what it would cost to rent them there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
