Just a thought..... make sure if you are tipping that it is VERY discreetly to the hotel staff as they do not allow tipping at the resort. the staff can actually get into trouble if they get caught taking tips. now with that said i always tip but just do it on the down lowcheesy.gif

Our photogs will be staying at the resort the night of the wedding...we thought we would do a modified welcome bag for them as we know they're on the road a lot....but probably don't want a whole bunch of stuff with our names on it!

I don't think that's the case with our resort...we've been there before and never heard of any issues...and any comments, blogs, etc. I've ever read about our resort say that tipping is not necessary but it's certainly appreciated.

I never thought about tipping my WC!  I agree with the other girls, if she does a great job, she'll get a tip.  The photographer is coming with us and FI's best friend, so I wasn't planning on tipping him.  He will get an OOT bag though!

I called my wedding dress shop yesterday and found out my dress will be in at the end of September!  Yay!!!  Can't wait to go visit it!

Hey ladies,

I get asked the tipping question all the time and every resort in the world will have a different tipping policy. It's really up to management so there isn't one blanket answer to whether or not it's acceptable to tip. If it's something your concerned about, I would recommend just directly asking the individual, if they aren't allowed to have tips at least you've acknowledged the fact that they deserve one, which to some people is just as nice!

I agree that every resort is different. I have been to the resort where i will be getting married and they def appreciate tips. its not mandatory though.

I am bringing my photog from ottawa. Its a friend. So we are paying for his trip and he in turn is doing our photography so i dont think a tip will be necessary there. Although after i get my pics i will probably put together a nice thank you card and maybe a little care package for him just out of appreciation.

I will have a tip prepared for the WC as well at the resort. They work so hard and they dont make a lot of money and you are not hiring them and paying them directly. I was thinking of putting $100.00 in an envelope which i know will be very appreciated.

Because i am paying videographers etc directly i dont think a tip is necessary but i havent 100% decided.

Ok, so here are my thoughts on the tipping situation....

Wedding Coordinator - $100 (assuming all goes well and we're happy)

Photographer - she is the owner of the business and therefore I have read that it is not customary as she is obviously receiving all the money, if your photographer works for a company then some people suggest tipping.  I am thinking thank you note after the fact....

Bartenders - depending on how many I am thinking $50 each?

Servers - same as bartenders $50 each?  (assuming all runs smoothly as dinner)

What about our officiant?! DJ (if we end up getting one?)

gaaahhhh this is so much extra I wasn't anticipating!!!  Bartenders, servers and WC yes... but the others?!

I hear ya!!! adding all those tips up is just not doable for us.. we just don't have it in our budget!! I am relying on all of the other guests to tip the bartenders, as they will tip them throughout the night...

I agree with the photographer, maybe a thank you card or what not.. but if they own their own company?!

I was planning on tipping the WC, and the servers... but thats all i was planning on..

People don't tip the photographers at weddings at home... so why tip them at a destination wedding? unless i am totallty missing something.. :(

I am now quite worried about all this.. :(

I totally agree!!! I asked my best friend who got married at home in July and she did NOT tip her photographer so I am going with that.  We are paying a LARGE chunk of change for our photographer so that we can get who and what we want but I don't see a tip being necessary!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
