Yaker, you and I have the same wedding date cheer2.gif

Congratulations on standing up for yourself! Hopefully you didn't lose too much money due to cancelling your NJ wedding, but no one will ever argue with getting married on a beach.  I just sent my Save the Dates yesterday!!!  Once you get started, everything will start to fall into place.  Just get busy girl!  We are sending out formal invitations as well as Save the Dates even though all of our information is on our website.  We feel like it will serve as a reminder and a formal invitation.  Also, for those who can't make it, it's a perfect reminder for them to send you a gift.

I have nothing prepared.  My FI and I got engaged two years ago and we wanted to do a destination wedding but my mother get very upset and begged us to have the "traditional" wedding here.  So we went with that but have been unhappy ever since. Now that the wedding is getting so close we finally put our foot down and said enough is enough. This is our wedding and since we are paying for it we want to do it our way. So I canceled the venue here in NJ and booked Jamaica. I cant wait!! I was miserable planning this wedding here and now I am so excited about Jamaica.  I dont know how many people we are going to have. I have 4 friends who are definite but not sure about family.  Seeing how its late notice I'm not sure people will be able to afford it. My mother is very upset with us so I wouldn't be surprised if she refused to come.  My FI and I are completely fine with just having an intimate wedding with the two of us. We never wanted a big wedding to begin with and we are only invited 26 people to the destination wedding. I still don't have a wedding dress yet and I am just starting to do my STDs.  Question, do I have to send out invitations as well? or can STDs be fine?? Thanks everyone!!!

Thanks everyone.. Kristibear - Happy wedding day to us!! we did take a hit on canceling but we are totally okay with this. We feel this is about our happiness and not money...well, I should say, even tho I lost money by canceling, I'm saving money by having this destination wedding. But its about our happiness. I just got done with our wedding website and will be sending save the dates this weekend. I am so excited and so happy about this! Its such a relief. I was so unhappy planning a wedding in NJ. I cannot wait!!

How are everyone's plans coming along? I fell like November is around the corner but yet I have so little done. SCARY!

Am I the only November bride who hasn't picked a dress yet> The stores are making me so scared by telling me it wont be ready in time if I dot order soon.

Everyone said you would "know the one", and i stupidly tried on a dress I could not afford today and I am in love. What do you do in these situations? Settle on second best for your wedding day? I cant justify the money to be honest!

Everybody keeps saying that November will be here before I know it - but I feel like it is so far off.  I want to get more done but I feel as if I can't since we have no idea how many guests will end up coming.  I think my impression of November being so far off is because I really want to go on vacation but we have been saving money and days off of work for the DW since the middle of last year.  The thought of waiting another 7+ months to travel is killing me.  It doesn't help that I will be starting a new job at a new company next week so I have to start over with vacation days that are prorated from the start date.

As for the expensive dress - maybe you could start a thread on this forum with a picture of the dress you love to see if any of the brides here have tried on anything similar but that is less expensive.  For anyone to really be able to help they would need to know the price range you are looking at.  There is also the option of a knock-off dress, but that could bea risk you are unwilling to take.

Moon Palace 11.1.11

So, seeing a couple other MP early November brides on here! I definitely think we should all try to meet up for a drink and a picture :)

So far, I've got 2 female guests, 5 male guests. Neither of our families are going (and we have siblings lol). I'm actually super happy with the size so far, if it's a bit bigger that's fine, too. But I honestly don't want a group larger than about 15.

Haven't done much planning because there's not much you can do this far out with MP, it seems. And, we're having a small wedding, so after the ceremony we're just going to have dinner then party at the disco or around town.

Sooo much left to do.. arg.

yaker33 - thank you, I immediately feel better that I am not the only one! I've only gone to a couple of stores and they all tried to terrify me into buying one by saying it won'y be ready on time if I don't pick something YESTERDAY!

clgriffi7 - we are in the same boat as you ..... we pretty much have no vacation time to take between April and November, going to be a long summer saving all of our time off for November! We both had a week off that needed to be used by March 31st, so used a few days with family and are taking next Monday and Tuesday off to meet the priest, look at men's suits, pick wedding bands ..... Know also what you are saying about depending on guest numbers. I've seen stuff I want to buy but until I know numbers there is nothing I can do.

I think once I pick a dress and book a photographer I will really be able to sit back and chillax at that stage. Those two big things are stressing me a bit, but once those are out of the way I think it will be plain sailing from there .... I HOPE! msnwink.gif

Question for you ladies: What did you put as your RSVP deadline request for the DW?

Im having an AHR (new development), but those RSVPs can be much closer to the actual date. For the DW though, I get a bit antsy and want to know how much of what I need to order as gifts and plan, etc.

I don't have my dress either... If I want it bad enough, I will find a way to make it happen. Just haven't found "it" yet.

November seems forever away. I feel like I'm sitting in purgatory!

We actually just printed out our invites with a RSVP date of August 19th.  The date seems random, but we chose 1 day before our August 20th deadline for the group rate at the hotel.  Though I would certainly like to know before then who is coming, I think that is still plenty of time to order everything for the OOT bags.  I will have all of the websites for all of the items selected and just place the orders (with a few extras just in case) at that time.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
