Cancun resorts are more expensive and crowed depending on the tourist season. What I like about Cancun  is checking the Mayan ruins and the ecological-parks.

Punta Cana, prices are more attractive. However, the historic town with beautiful architecture is 3 hours away..

Both places offer great beaches and resorts..It comes down to the kind of experience you want to give to your guests and your budget. answer this question to yourself. If you are invited to a destination wedding and as a guest you would like to turn the weekend wedding into a great vacation, what kind of activities you would be the most interested?

Keep in mind that some people love just seating at the pool reading a magazine or having drinks all day long. Others, are more into exploring the area or having both adventure and beach time..

I recommend you to look also into Puerto Vallarta in Mexico or Puerto Rico in USA...

I was considering both places too, originally preferred Punta Cana because there isn't blood tests. But ended up choosing Moon Palace in Cancun because we know it's gorgeous and the food is fabulous. Like everyone else said, just stick to the resort and don't go looking for trouble.

welcome.gif I´m getting married in Cancun. The place is wonderful and it was also my concern but I´ve been doing some reading  and I don´t think there is any problem there. Needless to say you always have to be careful though

We had the same decision to make. We decided to go with Punta Cana only because we had been to Mexico before but not the Dominican. This past weekend I was shopping for my bridesmaids and a wedding planner said she has been doing tons of destination weddings. She told me she has been getting lots of good reviews for the domincan but for some reason alot of brides are complaining about weddings in Mexico. She didn't elaborate as to what the complaints were but her opinion was that the Dominicans did nice weddings. I think either way you will have a beautiful wedding though!!!

Congrats on your engagement, and I'm sure I'm not going to be the last to welcome you to the forum.  Like a lot of other brides-to-be, I too was deciding between Mexico and the DR.  The prices were more attractive in Mexico (being from Southern California) but after my FI heard about the blood tests and chest X-rays, he was not to keen on it.  We ultimately decided to to with Excellence, Punta Cana and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The planning has been very easy.  The WC has been great getting back to me, answering all my questions.  We have a lot of friends from New York who have been to the DR many times and absolutely love it there.

We also liked the fact that there are a TON of affordable excursions that are easy to book and they pick you up at your resort including zip lining, xtreme dune buggy rides, safari, etc.  We figured that there would be something for everyone, including the aforementioned casino option.

If you have any questions about the DR or Excellence, feel free to PM me.  Whatever you choose, you'll have an amazing wedding, it's your special day and it'll be perfect.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
