Hi girls,

Newbie here!  A kiwi girl, living in London, just starting to make her plans to get married in Mexico!  I was at the Grand Mayan 4 weeks ago (during tropical storm Alex) and we have definitely decided to get married over there.

Now just in the process of looking at which resort and dependant on price of course!  We are looking to get married almost exactly 1 year from today!

Can't wait to hear all your lovely ideas and how your weddings have gone so far.  First question first - how long am I to expect to hear back from the Wedding Coordinators?  I have only heard back from the Grand Velas so far but yet to hear from Moon Palace, Dreams Tulum and Secrets.  Makes me nervous as now I have sifted through this thread I want to crack on!

2nd - did you guys do save the dates?  I am finding invites to be really expensive!  Was just wondering if you have any recommendations.  I would kind of like a bit of a destination wedding them I think .......

Take care!

Mel

i'm glad too as much as it is annoying me that she is being 'fake nice' it is marginly better than her being a complete cow.

Hi Mel, welcome to our thread.

My wedding isn't until July 2012 in The Gran Caribe Real, I haven't managed to book anything yet because the prices do not come out until next year May, but I am enjoying my planning and i'm picking up loads of ideas from the girls on here.

From my understanding of WC, some of them can be really quick to respond and others take forever, I would email the ones that you haven't heard from again.

Keep us posted on how you get on, can't wait to hear about all your wedding planning.

xx

Hey Mel, Welcome :-)

What date have you planned for? Some lovely resorts you have there. I booked through a TA so i didnt go directly through the hotel. but since booking i have emailed the WC for deatils on flowers, spa, and cake etc and she got back to me within 24 hours on both occassions, i was so pleased with the response time :-)
Im getting married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya on May 6th x

I didnt do STD's just invites and I made them, cheaper to do, have you thought about making them? or i know a few girls on (or alot...LOL) have used Vistaprint to do theirs.

xoxo

As we are getting married at the same resort and you are 7 months before me, I just wondered how your plans were coming along.  I know I sent you over some bits that I had received from the WC in the hotel but I am not able to do anything yet for at least another year so I thought i'd pick your brains. x

1. Have you booked your wedding already?

2. Are you booking everything through a travel agent or booking the wedding seperately with the hotel?

3. Are you going for a specific wedding package or getting the basic and adding the bits you want...i don't know which one is the cheaper option?

xx

Hi Charmaine

Wedding plans are slow so far but i have chosen my bridesmaids dresses and my own dress and paid my deposit :-) looking at my accessories and a dress for the evening to change into and bookmarking and choosing other bits and bobs like ring cushions, favours etc not buying much really until i have finally booked and it feels real :-)

I carnt book until around September/October this year, for November 2011.

We have decided to book the wedding direct with first choice although it was a bit more expensive than booking direct with the hotel, the reason i chose this was because we have had some messing about being passed from one coordinator to another at the hotel and i feel it gets a bit confusing and also the added assurance if anything goes wrong either end we have someone we can go back to or if there is any type of "Ash Cloud" etc we will be covered to get the money back from First Choice for the wedding where as if we book direct we won't get anything back!

We sat and went through the packages and decided to go with the Luxury package and just upgrade particular things like the photography and buy extra bouquets etc for the bridesmaids, we totalled everything up that we wanted using a cheaper package and it came out more expensive. Our final package choice will be dependant on how many people join us because i really want the private reception but i think there needs to be a minimum of 20 people.

What plans have you made so far? Its a bit of a struggle when you feel so far away from it doesn't it?

are any of you ladies buying pressies for your bridesmaids etc. and if so what.  i was thinking of just doing a spa day for my bridesdmaids, mum and i suppose MIL, but now i'm not sure if that is enough and i should maybe get pressies.

I have 2 BMs both are adults - we have bought them their dresses and flip flops as a way of saying thank you for travelling - i certainly wouldnt have paid if I was getting married at home.

I have got them a luggage tag and manicure set in the shape of a flip flop each (the blue one) - plus I will be getting a photobox book done with a line from a thank you poem on each page with photos of us on each page throughout the years. x

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
