Moon Palace Wedding Coordinator Questions

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it makes a difference, but we are Palace members and there is a separate coordinator for members. So far, she has been prompt with same day answers to our questions.

However, I was told that people booking through other operators will not be credited towards our group. I'm trying to decide if the group rate is worthwhile. Does anybody have access to group rates for the resort alone?

My parents are members too, & we used their membership to book our wedding.  The Miami coordinator is responsive but your on-site coordinator will most likely be just as slow as everyone else's when you get to that stage (90 days out from your wedding).  They don't have separate on-site coordinators for members.

All of my guests booked under our membership & had a great experiece, and everyone thought the rates were very reasonable.  However, the rates you posted on the other thread seem off.  The double rate is correct, but the triple & quad rates should be much lower.  I just double checked the Member rates for that time period, & it should be more like $162/person for triple & $145/person for quad (they just add $92/night for each additional adult over 2 in the room).

hi ladies!

i posted this on the Moon Palace 2011 Brides, but i figured it might be helpful in this thread also...

i just came back from a site visit at moon palace.  my fiance were pretty much all set with having our wedding at MP (because of the catholic chapel), but so many things happened over the wkend that i don't think we are going to end up getting married here.  anyway, i got SO MUCH helpful information from here that i figured i should pass it on.

i have been REALLY lucky because both my coordinators have been great at responding pretty quickly.

carilis felipe has been awesome.  i had received two different group block rates; the cheaper rate from a TA and she was able to talk to her supervisor to meet that rate.  she responded quickly to ALL my questions; most things i knew already after reading through this forum but i wanted to get it in writing from her (which i definitely suggest).  we already had a deposit on our ceremony (11.04.11), but will most likely be cancelling it and getting our money back (so i hope that goes smoothly).  i even requested a specific site wedding planner (kalena arroniz) and she worked to get her assigned to my wedding (1+ years in advance).

kalena arroniz was GREAT.  she didn't respond as quickly some times (probably the longest i waited was one week?), but when she couldn't her assistant (karen, i think) did.  i got in touch with her early because we had planned this site and had a meeting set up with her so that we can go over wedding details. i also requested a menu and cake tasting which she set up (she even let us taste 2 different buffet options and you should see the size of the cake tastings!!!).  she walked us through the resort to the different ceremony and reception locations and helped us finalize our selections for our cocktail hr and reception.  she answered ALL my questions (i have it typed up and left it with her, but i have copies so if any of you need it.. let me know) about the ceremony, cocktail hr, and reception.  honestly, i REALLY loved kalena just from our first mtg.  she was very attentive to us through email and at our mtg and was very helpful.  if the experience with the resort itself wasn't as bad, then i would have had my heart set with MP just to have her as my coordinator.

if any of you are having a difficult time with your coordinators, i would highly suggest asking if you can switch to carilis and kalena!! :)

if anyone needs pictures of the resort or the document of questions i asked kalena, please email me and i will send it to you.  i don't go on here often (well, i will be on here more now since i basically have to start planning from scratch to look for a new resort), but i don't really like using the private messages option.  email is much more easy and quicker: damitaprilurcool at gmail dot com.

hope this helps and good luck all of you!!!

It sounds like your really loved both Carilis and Kalena, so what occurred that is making you cancel your wedding at MP? What was your bad experience if you don't mind me asking.

Don't get me wrong.. the resort is nice, but we just weren't wow'd by it.  It was very overwhelming to us because it was so big.  There were a few things that happened to us and I think it was just bad luck because everyone else on this forum has said they had an amazing time:

  • They wanted to charge me more than what my room rate was quoted at for the site visit.  It was a mess and I spent so much talking to the people at the front desk at check in and check out instead of being able to enjoy the resort even though I had email proof of the room rate.  This scared me the most because I don't want any of my guests to experience anything like this.
  • We found blood on our bedsheets one night and they couldn't "accommodate" sending us new bed sheets because it was so late by the time we saw it.  Instead they just sent us blankets to sleep on top of it until the next morning.
  • At check in, they apparently didn't have a king sized bed on the nizuc side available even though they were only at 20% capacity that wkend - instead we got 2 double beds.  With a resort so huge, this was just really disappointing that that they couldn't give us a king sized bed at first check in.  After our site inspection with Kalena (the next day), she told us we can request to stay on the Moon Grand side with a king sized bed (which we preferred since the rooms are newer) and they accommodated that request.  We really don't know why they didn't give us the option to move sections to get a king sized bed from the get-go.
  • We didn't get the glass of champagne at check in. Haha, I know this is minor but everyone keeps talking about it, so I had an expectation that we would get it too.

I"m sorry to hear that the site visit didn't go smoothly- that's incredibly disheartening. my sister is a member of Palace and they pull stupid SH*T all the time with little details like that...it's very annoying, but in the end I'm praying for a beautiful ceremony and reception... and I just have to practice my assertive skills BIG TIME. do you mind sending the menus if you received them?

Thanks so much---so are you going to go to a different Palace?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
