Dress Shopping is no longer FUN!

Recommended Posts

Kelly-great advice. I have been to 4 stores and been back to them on several occasions to try the dresses back on. I might go again this weekend to a different store and tell them what I like (from pictures) and also say I'll try whatever. Hopefully another go will give me more luck.

I did find a dress I thought was really pretty on the internet & definitely in my price range BUT it is a new dress & every store I have called does not have it in yet. One store told me that they may not have it until the new year which is too late to try and order a dress (just to be on the safe side) and I won't dare buy a dress without trying it on. Oh well...I'll just continue my serach.

Do you think you are the type to have that "OMG this is one!!!!" feeling? Not everyone is made that way, so trying to fit into a stereotype may leave you feeling like you should be experiencing something that's not really you, KWIM? I never had that "feeling" but I def liked my dress. I felt good in it and I was excited to wear it. That was enough for me.

However, I do agree that you should go in with an open mind and try on everything that strikes your fancy- heck, even dresses in which you don't think is your style. You never know. And finding what you DON'T like is just as helpful as finding what you do. It narrows it down. Good luck. I'm pretty confident you will find a dress you love.

Maybe that's crazy...but I hope you guys agree with me. I thought you are supposed to put the dress on and feel special in it & all that jazz. This is just not the dress that I have envisioned my whole life....actually so far no dress has done that! Anyways besides needing to vent, I wanted to get some opinions. First off, has anyone had their wedding dress made for them? I know a lady that does it and she probably wouldn't charge too much, so I'm kind of leaning towards that. Secondly, I was curious if anyone knew dresses that are similar to Alvina Valenta or Paloma Blanca BUT for cheaper? I am in love with the slim, trumpet shape dresses and I want a strapless sweetheart neckline, but unfortunately those dresses are not in my price range. Any help is appreciated.
I am having my dress made, I tried the trying on dresses in the shop. First i am a size 14 so in wedding size thats about a 18. Not much on the rack my size, mostly dresses that would cover my tigh. I found it very overwhelming having people stare at me in a dress waiting for my response.
I found a dress online and I took it to a seamstress and she gave me a price that blew my mind. The dress retails for $500 and she is making it for $210 material included. God love her she works for a fabric shop and got my material for her employee cost. I am also have things changed on the dress to suit my body better. Just give you an idea I'll post the picture and explain the changes. Photo
I have had the top changed to halter to hold the twins better... I just need the support. Having it made it is your dress and you can take things about certian dresses and add on or take away.
I hope it works out for you... I'll keep you updated as to my dress progress.

Good Luck

Courtney sad.gif Don't get too frustrated, you are still pretty far out! Sounds like we all have had some very similar experiences. I know I was disheartened cause so many of my friends had the 'omg this is it' moment and i never did and I went to over 11 shops. And I agree with Rachel, everyone is not that way and I kinda knew I would never have one. I also like my dress but I am not like 'holy crap this is it'. I was also going to mention nicole miller, she has a lot of great dresses for good prices. I got one of her dresses and its a sweetheart strapless mermaid fit gown..

sidenote:omg mswhatever, your dog is hilarious!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
