Did you pick your resort based on being able to have outside photographers?

Recommended Posts

I was just curious how much of an influence it has on DW brides when picking their resort if they can bring in outside photographers or videographers ?

Did you have a resort in mind then change it because they don't allow outside photographers ?

Please comment in this thread on why or why not it was important to you, if you did not use a resort because of the policy please let us know which resort and where you booked instead!

I am hoping to use this to show what effect the no outside photographer/videogrpher policy may have to certain resorts!

Thanks!

One of the first questions we asked when booking the resort for our wedding was if we could use an outside vendor for photography. We had found two companies that took photos in the style and vision that we wanted for our day. At one point when there was controversy over using outside photographers (a rule change by management) at our resort and we did have plans to ask our TA to switch resorts or change the wedding location if the issue was not resolved. Thankfully it was resolved and we got to use the company we had chosen.

Pictures and video capture the moments of a bride and groom's special day. Couples spend a lot of money on photographers and videographers, sometimes even more than the actual cost of their wedding. In my opinion, photography and videography are key components to any wedding, especially a DW where by circumstance some family and friends cannot attend. Therefore pictures become that much more important to capture the day to share with the people who wanted to attend but could not.

We didn't consider this when we first selected the Riu, but we did select them becuase of the photography samples we saw they seemed to have the best photographer. But, this is when we did not know that we could take our own photogrpaher.

When we found this out and decided we really wanted (and preferred) to do this. We were really glad we could take our own photographer. I can honestly say that if I had been told I couldn't bring my own photographer I think I would have given up my $200 deposit to switch resorts to one that would allow it. There are plenty of resorts to choose from on Jamaica that are beautiful options.

This is a great question! Photography is VERY important to us as is having the flexibility to choose the vendors we work with. Organizing a wedding is such a personal experience and we want vendors who we think will fulfill our vision and style. This certainly influenced our decision and eliminated certain locations because we did not want to give up that flexibility.

I don't know how to vote on this because I chose my resort before knowing this would be an issue (Pre-BDW). My resort doesn't allow outside photographers, so I'm going to either have to sneak one in, pay for a day pass or a night's stay to have one other than the "house" photographer. I've seen their pics and I'd really prefer to use an outside one.

Wedding photos are VERY important to us. I would not have chosen a resort that did not allow us to use an outside photographer. A major deciding factor on choosing the Excellence Riviera Cancun was because they allow outside vendors. You just have to pay the $70 day pass for each one, as you would for any non-guest of the resort, which we felt was reasonable... especially compared to other resorts' policies.

Yes this was very important! I did choose my resort before knowing about such policies but had it been a no vendor policy I would have switched resorts, lucky for us we just have to work around it with day passes- although I wish I didn't have to pay for those either but oh well, at least I get my photographer I want!

Wedding photos were the most important part of our DW... at the end of the day - the memories and photos are what is left.

As far as "based our decision on which property on being able to bring our photographer" I wouldn't say we did that, but rather just paid the cost of doing so.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
