Pricing for 2010 Weddings in Cancun/Mayan Riviera

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. We are in the process of getting prices for our destination wedding but still haven't picked out a resort. Originally we had planned on Riu Cancun but our travel agent came back with an extremely high price, $2700 Canadian per person for the end of march, beginning of April out of Edmonton. We've been watching prices on all the travel websites and we've never seen them that high, the highest was around $1700 for this year. So we're now looking at different resorts, probably around Playa Del Carmen, like the Gran Porto Real or the Iberostar Tucan. How far in advance should we be booking? Are we getting these high rates because of how far in advance we are trying to book. We do want to give everyone as much notice as possible, though. Thanks

hi! i am leaving toronto canada and having the same problem, so far what i have found is you should have more then one travel agent because for some reason some can get it cheaper then others, and i have heard that higher prices are quoted when the new price books are not out yet. I am trying to give alot of notice too but i am thinking the best prices will come if you wait until about 9 months before hope this helps. My sister just did this last year and found that jamaica was the best place based on price...and the fact that they are english so nothing has to be translated you also do not have to be in the country for as long before getting married. So if you do not have your heart set on mexico i would look into jamaica. good luck!!

Our TA quoted us a ridculous price for 1 week in PDC. She assured us that the price will come down a lot by the time we book though. I looked up the price for this year at the same time as our wedding and also the prices that are already out for december, just to give us an idea, and it's over $1000 pp cheaper than what she quoted us. Don't worry, I'm sure it will come down. We just tell people what the price was this year and tell them to plan around that. Good luck!

From my experience, prices will come down down the road. Since they were just released, resorts will try to book at their current prices for a few months(and there are a lot of people who will book right away). Later on, prices go down quite a bit. Of course there's always a risk not to have your day available because someone else took it.

Also, because of the economy, a number of business had to increase the prices(less people, same money).

I am having the same issues with quotes from TA's being extremely high!

I was hoping that my guests would be paying a maximum of $1500-1700 for 1 week.

Maybe that was wishful thinking!

I had to rule out Dreams Tulum out because of the cost, and I am currently waiting for a TA to get back to me with pricing for Barcelo Maya and also a list of more affordable resorts.

We have been quoted high prices too. We are leaving from Vancouver BC and all of the prices that have come in so far are $1750 + (most were about $2100 and this isn't even at the really high end resorts) this doesn't even include taxes. I am freaking out a bit because I don't want my guests to have to pay a fortune to come to our wedding. Has anyone found any deals from Vancouver yet...I know the flights haven't even been released yet and niether have package prices but any info helps. Thanks!

Hello Everyone!

We too are running into the same concern. Our wedding will be January 2010 in RM. We met with the TA in February and even at that point in time she said that we would have to wait until June or July before we finalized anything- including booking. I have been checking the sites every so often and I still don't see any prices out for the first week in January, so now I"m thinking her time frame will be about right. I'm assuming that the prices will come out and then hopefully come down by late summer.smile72.gif

Happy planning!

Jessica

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
