In Canada, our government recently created a "Do Not Call List". We just go the website and put our phone number on that list. And it is illegal to call anyone on that list. I am not sure, but check of you have something similar in your state.
Since I got on that list, I barely receive any of those telemarketing calls. Used to get up to 5 a day!!
Yes we actually have had this for a while: https://www.donotcall.gov/ But if a company gives your number out that doesn't stop them from using it really thats why I suggest answering as your local PD then they can't call that number any more

Well, it should stop them from using it. If for example I complain about such call, the company that called will have to pay a large fine. This is why it really works here. If a florist or a venue knew they had to pay $10,000 fine, they wouldn't do it. It's a lot of money for any business to "throw away"! There are other ways to bring in new clients.
Now, it doesn't stop David's Bridal from giving out your personal information though. I suppose there's nothing much you can do here. You all can just post it on the forums and blogs and sooner or later, more people will know and try to avoid dealing with this company. Wedding business is largely based on referrals and more and more people are starting to use the internet for their wedding needs. Next time someone is searching for their name, this thread may come up. They definitely don't want that!

unfortunately it's all a matter of reading all the fine print on every piece of paper or website that you provide your name/address/phone number or any personal information to. in more cases than not, you need to specifically opt OUT of these things, by unchecking (pre-checked) boxes on forms, etc.

the do not call list only saves you from random telemarketers, not ones who have received your information with your "permission" (no matter what sneaky tactics they used to get it).

So I'm absolutely horrible but yesterday I got another call from a number I don't know and of course I have to answer these now since I'm starting to job hunt.

And then once I heard the chipper, guess what you were just selected to go to this bridal expo down town... I started to fake cry and say "why are you doing this to me... He just broke off the wedding... I can't believe you would call, what do you think it's funny." The poor lady on the other line didn't know what to do she's like um um I'm so sorry, and then she kind of started to mumble but i quickly got off the phone because I couldn't control my laughter anymore... haha I think I'm going to hell for that, oh well i needed to get amusement out of something.

I had the same thing happen to me (still does on occasion) and I tried on dresses there almost a year ago - and didn't even buy one. I also got the Mary Kay makeover and even a wine party (I took part in those, but not any of the expos or stuff I "registered for and were picked")

I got a call saying I won some bridal package- a free trip for me and my FI,then was told to pick it up at a Best Western where there would be some presentation about pots and pans. I later googled it to find very bad reviews! It's some Royal Prestige thing. I also get bombarded with postcards and mail and I didn't even buy anything from there, I just signed up to "win something."

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
