wedding dress dilemna!

Recommended Posts

Gosh Jilly! Your first dress is *so* beautiful! I am not going to be any help either because I like the top of the second and the smooth skirt of the one you already bought. So my vote, if you want it, would be for the first.

Could you do a countdown for the last day where you could possibly order it and if you still cannot get it out of your head by then... then order it!

(BTW Tara, love your countdown until you have a resort!)

I don't think you should make christening gowns or quilts...

I think you should invite us all over after our weddings and we can sit around in our dresses drinking beer like Monica, Rachel and Phoebe did in 'Friends'. I'll even wear the yellow dishwashing gloves! rofl.gif

Paula you are too funny! That sounds like a fabulous idea. I was thinking a little while ago if I do buy the dress, I want to put it back on all the time and run around the house in it!

Thanks Christine! I know it seems like there have been quite a few girls that have gone through this, at least I don't feel like I'm the only one!

I just emailed a few online bridal places to see if any of them have it. I really have to make my decision soon, I'll keep you guys posted. maybe I'll become more rational in the next day or two!

Good luck Jilly! I think you've gotten some great advice here. The way I see it is you only have one wedding, so get a dress you love. I just wouldn't want you or anyone else to regret their decision later, so if you feel like you might regret not buying the second one, that'd be a reason to seriously consider the second one. That being said, the first one is also absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure that either way you will look beautiful and feel amazing on your wedding day.

By the way, I wouldn't worry about your mom saying it's too fancy, I think most of us got that at one point or another from at least one person. My vote is to ignore them and get the dress that gives you a wow feeling

If it doesn't break the bank and isn't too much of a stretch for your budget, then go for it. That dress is gorgeous and if you feel the way you want to feel on your wedding day in it, then do it. Yes, it's a lot of money for a "one day" dress, but that can be said about almost everything brides purchse for their wedding day. For example, at any other time in your life, would you plan on spending thousands of dollars on a 4-8 hour party for a handful of your nearest and dearest? At any other time in your life, would you spend thousands of dollars on photographs? Let's face it, if weddings were a "practical" thing, we'd all be at the steps of a courthouse and eating at IHOP afterward...

Thank you! I do love both dresses, I guess now I just need to decide! And yes, I'm trying to ignore my mothers comments!

  • 2 weeks later...

Jilly-

I'm a little late to this, but I think you know all of my dress drama.

And I'm glad I went and got a different dress, although (and listen to this) I was really against paying more than $200 for a dress I was only going to wear once, and I ended up paying over $1000. Which everyone assures me is not nuts, but it is to me!

Anyway, the new dress is entirely too fancy for the beach. It was too expensive. But you know what my mom says? "We have to get you the dress that makes you feel like a million dollars. It's your wedding."

So, that being said, I say get the new one, sell the old one, and DON'T LOOK BACK! (if it really makes you happier)

Jilly-

I say try it on again...if it kills you to take it off...then, that's the dress. It is a lot of money, but I don't think it is ridiculously expensive. The first dress I loved was a MS. Then I tried on several other dresses that I thought were nice too. When I went back and tried on the MS (in the color I wanted), I instantly knew it was the one. I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror. I was twirling and turning and basically making a fool out of myself. I didn't want to take it off. My sister gave me some advice...that at first sounded silly to me, but turned out to be oh so true.....pick the dress you love so much, you'd sleep in it.

Both dresses will be beautiful, but just from the way you talk about the MS, I think it's the "one". But definitely go and try it on again... you'll know :)

Thanks girls. I've been going back and forth about this. Its not that I think 1500 is crazy to spend, but I guess for me I think its more than I should spend. I know I can sell the one I already bought.

I'm so undecided, I look online every night and have seen so many beautiful dresses, I think I'm addicted to wedding dresses! Anyway, I don't even know if I'm going to have enough time to order it now, I'm down to about 19 weeks, yikes! And I wish I could try it on in the white, so I would know for sure what it would look like!!

I don't know what to do, FI wants me to get the dress I really want, why can't someone else make this decision for me!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
