What's your menu for AHR?

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I are planning a pretty informal AHR. We want a beach-themed BBQ type deal, with dancing, food, and showing our wedding video. What type of things should we serve?

Initially I was thinking hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. Is this too simple? Fiance thinks we should serve BBQ brisket and kabobs. What are your opinions? What are/did you serve at your AHR?

FI's parents are helping pay for our AHR and they suggested BBQ. We may do that - but I don't eat pork wink.gif so I would rather have something else. I want to do a Low Country Boil - shrimp, corn on the cob, red potatoes and sausage. You can serve slaw with it and cocktail sauce and it is YUMMY! My Papaw is from Savannah so he could bring me some fresh shrimp for it.

But if it comes down to price, we will probably stick with BBQ and I'll just ask for some chicken or something wink.gif for myself!

My FI's mom is planning the whole thing. She's all into it, which is great because she's been really hands-off with the wedding planning. ;-)

It's going to be casual, and we're doing it as more of an open-house/drop-in thing. She's getting a variety of heavy appetizers from our favorite local restaurants... party subs from our favorite sandwich spot, cocktail-sized Jamaican beef and chicken patties (our wedding is in Jamaica & my parents are from there), wings from FI's favorite wing place, etc. Two wedding cakes (traditional and Jamaican), and beer, wine and soft drinks.

We are doing a traditional STL BBQ; ribs, rib tips, snoot, hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, chicken wings, pork steaks, etc with baked beans, pot. salad, greens, green beans, spaghetti, toasted ravioli (sp?) and more than likely a variety of desserts to go along with the cake. We are thinking about having indivual gooey butter cakes, black forest, sweet pot. pie, and some standard cake..

We want something very low key, since we are not en-enacting the wedding.. just having a HUGE party to celebrate with everyone and watch fireworks with.

Hope this helps

btw Jen I like the idea of a taco bar.. thats so cute..

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
